Posting artwork I do in my spare time.
POSTS STORIES REELS
Finished this A4 acrylic painting of the little walkthrough part of Wendover in the Aylesbury Estate. I always find this part interesting with the walkways joining different blocks and sleek brutalist staircase. It's currently boarded up, all council tenants and squatters moved on, but it's in limbo. From what I gather Notting Hill Genesis so not want to redevelop this part of the Aylesbury and Southwark Council certainly so not have the funds to do it by themselves. So it was no surprise to me when the estate cleaner I bumped into said it was being proposed that it's used for temporary accommodation. Make of that what you will... Imagine it was used to house people on the council waiting list - permanently. 240 families off the waiting list could be a reality, and this stupid 25 year plan to destroy one of the great post war housing developments and hand it over private corporations can be seen for the stupidity it always has been. Anyway that's enough rambling, I hope you Iike this little painting, and maybe it won't be the last ever artwork of Wendover House. P. S. Typical me, I painted this on a bit of scrap board from the back of an old frame I threw away, I have brand new canvases to paint on but no I chose this 😅 by @thelondonrealm
My interpretation of a section of Wendover House on the Aylesbury Estate in Walworth (Southwark, London) Painted on a loose brick I pulled from a damaged wall that runs just in front of the building. This was inspired by @harrietmena_hill and her amazing paintings on fragments of demolished buildings across the Aylesbury Estate. I simply had to have a go myself but with my own spin on things, I tried to use the brick shape itself as model for a mini replica. I kind of freewheeled it and got the proportions a bit wrong, and I added an extra vertical row by accident, but the whole idea was to just have a go and capture the essence of how these buildings looked and I think I've done that. Acrylic paint (mostly washes) on gesso'd brick. Un-varnished. by @thelondonrealm
Just finished this painting of the interior of the former Sophocles bakery on Camberwell Church Street. I used to go here to escape the Old Kent Road when in search of a cheap coffee and peace and quiet - I'd often end up having a long rambling conversation with a regular about everything in general and nothing in particular. I'm sad it's gone, but that's London, don't get too attached to anything. The coffee wasn't the best, their cakes sometimes tasted nothing like you'd expect (the bread pudding had about one of the required mixed spices!) But it was a place of comfort and a sanctuary to many of the older locals who lived off the Green. Painted with acrylic paint on a bit of greyboard card I found going through my Mums old things, she saved it for painting on so I thought I'd let it fulfill its destiny. The cake was an addition to the reference photos, included to balance things up - proof I was being 100% honest about cakes being artistic research! DM for info if you'd like to purchase this painting or commission an original of your own. #originalart #londonart #everydaylife #artforsale #camberwellarts #cake #stilllife by @thelondonrealm
Ok sorry for posting this one again, I thought I could add photos to a post afterwards, computer says no. Anyway just a few close ups of my painting of the Elephant and Castle pre redevelopment and an old photo from the 1930s facade era. Notice that the brickwork above the windows at what would become Davish News is freshly repointed, and that work is clearly visible up until it was demolished in 2020 - the kind of thing that excites me 😅 #elephantandcastle #savethecoronet #londontheatre #southwark #londonart #originalartforsale by @thelondonrealm
Painting of a scene at Elephant and Castle circa 2016. The whole site is now demolished (except for carbuncle cup winner Strata Tower in the background) and occupied by a @unioftheartslondon campus that has completely ruined the area (If you're thinking the scene ive painted is bad, trust me the new development is even worse!) It was a shame they didn't try to incorporate the last theatre from the once famous "picadilly of the south" into the new development, there was a stunning 1930s art deco facade behind the blue cladding just waiting to be restored with parts of the original 1879 theatre designed by Frank Matcham (one of Britain's most important theatre designers) still intact, most notably pulleys and ropes and moving parts under the old stage. History that would've been worth preserving. My personal memories of this Theatre was watching my first ever film at a cinema here, Dennis the Menace in 1993, then later seeing Nick Caves Grinderman play in 2010 when it was restored back to a Theatre, amazing gig! Also nearly getting into a fight in the Charlie Chaplin pub because a coke head couldn't handle losing a game of pool lol. Acrylic paint on canvas 39.5cm x 29.5cm DM any enquiries. by @thelondonrealm
Everett House, 43 White Post Lane, Hackney Wick Reposting an oldie- this became one of my favourites because I simply didn't think too much about it at the time. I just thought it'd be a fun challenge to copy the graffiti and record the decay. Art was my diary at the time. This was a scan taken just prior to trimming (Butchering) the sides off to fit it into a uniquely sized second hand frame and mount. Thought it looked cool at this stage though. Apparently this was Britain's first ever dry cleaning works and built in 1911. A company called Achille Serre, (you can just about see part of there old sign at the top ,they had a big A and S either side) - unfortunately someone decided to "clean" that top section up since, no parts of the sign left and it looks really out of place. Where would we be without Google eh? Acrylic paint & graphite pencil on backing card. by @thelondonrealm
I'm really happy to finally share my painting of the Ritzy Cinema in Brixton. It was commissioned as a gift for a couple to celebrate the day they got engaged and got their own personalised message on the front of the building, how cool is that! I really enjoyed this painting as I got to look into all the architectural details of this wonderful cinema (Lots of Owls!) , as well as developing my techniques with all the shadows and reflections. I've never really done anything like this before to be honest. I had to step back from adding too much detail as it can become unrealistic (albeit enjoyable) but adding the brickwork had to be done because its so satisfying when it comes together :) I added a few dogs on the right to balance it out and tidied up the messy bike racks, because I'm allowed to in my own world. 40x40cm Acrylic paint on canvas. #acrylicpainting #originalart #giftideas by @thelondonrealm
St Michael's Catholic School, Bermondsey. Acrylic paint on A4+ card, 2025. Not many shadows on this one as it was a bit of a dull flat day when I took reference photos, typical London! Was quite difficult to give it depth for that reason but hopefully the subtle light changes on the facade are noticeable. I thought the back of the cars on the left and tree on the right framed it well, glad I took photos in Autumn as you cannot see the building in Spring or Summer with all the leaves. #londonart #bermondsey #londonlife #acrylicpainting by @thelondonrealm
Camberwell New Road painting from last year - posting again because I've finally got round to scanning it. This is the third and most recent of my paintings of this road, capturing whole sections of terraces, shops and houses as they are. Limited edition of 20 Signed and numbered gallery quality Giclee prints are available on request. 29.5cm x 21cm landscape (A4 x 2) #southlondonart #streetscape #londonlife #acrylicpainting by @thelondonrealm
I thought I'd post a few examples of portraits created with varying styles and using different media. My favourite ones are bringing old photos back to life or rearranging a collection of photos and bringing people together, it can be very tricky with the varying qualities of photo but when you complete it it's a great feeling! My Commission season is in full swing and I will be looking to take a few more on before the end of May. Please send me a direct message if interested. #familypainting #pencilportrait #acrylicpaintportrait #commissionanartist by @thelondonrealm
I had the pleasure of painting this lovely wedding party scene for the nicest couple you could ever meet, Jane and John. They have both regularly visited me at art markets over the years and kept me company with good conversation - so to say I was delighted to paint this for them is an understatement! Thanks to their friend @amymcmcmc for commissioning me to capture this special moment, and John for giving permission to post it here :) congratulations @johnsinsta37 and @jane.farrington3 ! by @thelondonrealm
Finally manged to finish this painting of the building locally known as Barrier Block in Brixton. Rather than taking reference from the brutal facade facing the main road, I found the estate communal areas and functional architecture much more interesting. A typical unfiltered daily London scene, something I always set out to capture in my artwork. Thanks to @loparkin for showing me this building on a sunny day walkabout last year. Acrylic paint and graphite pencil on A4 canvas sheet. DM for price if interested. #acrylicart #londonart #affordableart #reallondon by @thelondonrealm
