Here's me on my first magazine cover (a HUGE honor) but let me tell you what was REALLY happening behind the scenes...

I was miserable--my head was spinning, my marriage was plummeting, I felt overwhelmed in parenting AND at work. From the outside looking in, I was crushing it. But inside, leadership felt like a sinking ship in all avenues of my life.

There are time when leadership can feel like a difficult and daunting responsibility, but it can also be an amazing opportunity and privilege.

I remember having a huge payroll and big team both at work and at home--there were plenty of days that I felt like my head was spinning just trying to "get it right." And to be honest with you, there were ALOT of days that I felt like I was over my head. I had an assistant then an assistant to the assistant, interns, producers, social media people, coaches--and when I hit the wall of overwhelm, I didn't feel like I was managing it well at all.

As leaders, we need to STOP + THINK. To take inventory not only on what's "working/not working" but also on what we are using as our measuring stick as well.

It is up to us to make the most of it and use it to make a positive impact in our communities and the world. With great power comes great responsibility, and leadership is no exception. We must remember to use our authority to do good and strive to make a difference.

I took a look around and found that pairing things down actually created more ease in my life than the many hands that I thought were going to help.

Take a look around in your own life--what are you doing? Are you doing it well? How are you measuring? What are you measuring? Are you utilizing the hands you have to help you? by @themindrise

One way to heal from overachiever burnout Taking a break and allowing yourself to have FUN!
This podcast episode, “20 Fun Random Questions with Bailey’s Bestie, Rachel Farmer” is exactly that. Although the podcast is an amazing tool to provide educational skills and tips, it was refreshing to let go for an episode and just have fun with one of my closest friends.

Rachel has an opinion on just about everything and she’s 100% convinced that she’s always right. She also likes to refer to herself as “the life coach’s life coach.” And she 100% always makes me laugh.

I hope you enjoy this FUN episode of 20 questions with Rachel–neither of us have a clue what questions we’ll be asking each other so it’s bound to be entertaining.

I hope thing episode not only makes you laugh but inspires you to give yourself a break and let loose with people you love.

Do self-help books actually work? I’m not so sure… Here’s what I’m doing differently in my new book, wrecking ball revolution.

I’m curious, what are your favorite personal development box? What is the book that you would recommend over and over again?

I’ve been thinking a lot about the difference between being able to do something and actually wanting to.

Because those aren’t always the same thing.

I can handle it.
I can make it work.
I can give a little more.
I can keep going.
I can figure it out.

And when you’re capable, there will almost always be more you could do.

More work.
More responsibility.
More people to help.
More problems to solve.
More ways to show up.

But at some point, I think we have to ask a different question:

Do I actually want my life to require me to keep doing all of this?

I’ve spent a lot of time living from the first question—Can I?

I’m much more interested in the second one now.

Do I want to?

That’s what we’ll explore tomorrow in Do Less. Make Space. Live Differently.

Not productivity hacks.
Not another system.
Not a five-year plan.

A working session to look honestly at what you’re carrying, what you’re continuing simply because you can, and what you might want to make room for instead.

If you’ve been thinking, I know something needs to change. I just haven’t slowed down enough to figure out what, this is for you. by @themindrise

Our time, effort, and energy matter. What we put out into the world matters. Who we are matters. The influence that we have on ourselves, others, and the world’s around us matters. by @themindrise

The quality of our life is directly correlated with what we are resourcing it with… Are you resourcing with garbage or are you resourcing with nourishment? by @themindrise

I've been thinking about this one a lot:
Just because I can keep doing something doesn't mean I want to.

I've confused those two things before.

In relationships.
In work.
In life.

I can keep trying.
I can keep giving more.
I can keep making it work.
I can keep saying yes.

But eventually, the question has to become something different:
Do I actually want my life to require me to keep doing this?

Because being capable is not the same thing as being fulfilled.

And capacity isn't an obligation.
There will almost always be more you could do.

The harder—and more interesting—question is what you actually want your life to hold.

That's what we'll explore together in my upcoming free workshop:

Do Less. Make Space. Live Differently.

Thursday, October 1 at 2 PM EST (11am PST/12pm MT/1pm CST)

Come with curiosity. Come with questions. Come exactly as you are.

This summer, I left some things open.
At first, the open space made me a little anxious.

Then I started to settle.

I became more present.
And I started noticing things I'd been too busy to notice.

When every hour is accounted for, we're constantly transitioning.

Meeting → email → meeting → Slack → project → another meeting → "quick question" → back to the project.

We're technically busy all day.

But how much of that time are we actually thinking?

How much are we creating?
How much are we making decisions rather than simply responding?
How much are we actually present?

This summer reminded me that space isn't just about rest.

Space gives us information.

It gives us enough distance from the life we're living to actually see it.

If every available space in your calendar is immediately filled, you don't just lose downtime.

You lose room to think.

To notice.
To question.
To create.
To decide what actually matters.

Maybe the goal isn't to squeeze more productivity out of every available hour.
Maybe it's to stop filling every available hour.

What might change if you left a little more room to think? by @themindrise

SPACE GIVES US INFORMATION.

We tend to think of space as something we create so we can rest.

But space does something else, too.

It gives us information.

When we're constantly moving, it's easy to focus on what's next.

When we slow down, we might notice what isn't working. What we're tired of. What we've been tolerating. What we've been avoiding. What we actually want.

And sometimes, we discover a maybe.

You don't have to know what the maybe means yet.

You just have to be willing to notice it.

What might you notice if you gave yourself a little more room? by @themindrise

Stress, uncertainty, and anxiety can absolutely sideline us from being able to feel in control of our life, here are my favorite four questions to get back into the driver seat of your confidence. by @themindrise

I spent a lot of this summer thinking about doing less.

Which is funny because, if I’m being honest, I also spent a lot of this summer doing... quite a lot.

There was Italy with Phoebe. Beach days with friends. Camp drop-offs. A concert road trip. Crabbing. Boat rides. Working behind the scenes on Wrecking Ball Revolution. Building programs. Writing emails. Creating social media. Navigating changes to plans and timelines.

There were things I expected. And plenty that I didn’t.

But somewhere along the way, I kept coming back to the same thought:
What if we stopped trying to fit it all in?

When Phoebe and I went to Italy, we didn’t do it like a tour.

We didn’t race from destination to destination or try to see everything.
Instead, we had an Italian summer.

We ate gelato. A lot of gelato.

We spent hours in the sea. We lingered. We wandered. We adjusted plans. We let some days unfold without knowing exactly where they were going.

And because we weren’t trying to squeeze everything in, we actually got to experience what we were doing.

We got to taste the gelato. Really taste it.

I’ve been thinking about how often we approach our actual lives the exact opposite way—We try to fit in the goals, the work, the relationships, the projects, the obligations, and everything else we think we should be doing.

And before we know it, we’re wearing so many hats and moving in so many directions that we’re never really anywhere.

We’re half in and half out of everything.

We often try to solve this by figuring out how to manage more.

A better system.
A better schedule.
More discipline.
A new planner.

And listen, I love a good system but sometimes the problem isn’t that we haven’t figured out how to manage it all.

Maybe there’s just too much.

Doing less doesn’t mean wanting less from your life.
It doesn’t mean becoming less ambitious or dreaming smaller.

What if doing less allowed us to do what matters better?
What if we stopped measuring our lives by how much we can hold and started paying attention to the quality of how we’re actually showing up?

As we move into a new season, I’m asking myself:
What needs to come off my plate before I put anything else on it?
