POSTS STORIES REELS

I want to share something more personal than I usually do.

If you’re new here or maybe didn’t know: I grew up deaf. It wasn’t a tragedy. Not as something broken. Just as a way of being in the world.

My life has moved through different landscapes since then. Surgeries. Speech therapy. Learning to navigate sound. Learning to navigate people. Learning to navigate identities that sometimes felt like houses I was visiting, never quite unpacking my bags in either one. Deaf. Hard of hearing. In a hearing world. Between worlds.

I didn’t overcome deafness. I lived it. And it shaped me, for better. It gave me perspective that feels almost sacred now. It taught me how to listen with my eyes. How to feel vibration before I understood tone. How to study faces like constellations. How to sit inside silence without being afraid of it.

Somewhere along the way, music found me. Or maybe it had always been there, waiting for the right doorway.

Now I sing. I write songs. I perform. I create visually the way I always have. Art was my first translator long before sound ever was.

And recently, the universe connected me to my friend Karen @sunshineskloss , who is working on a documentary highlighting Deaf interpreters in live music spaces. I’m so honored to be involved to help in any way I can, however I can. Watching Deaf interpreters move music through their bodies is one of the most spiritual experiences to witness. Its rhythm made visible. It’s proof that sound is bigger than ears. Being invited into that world, given my story, feels full circle in a way I can’t quite put into words.

I have lived in silence. I have lived in sound. Both are part of me.

If there’s anything my path has taught me, it’s this: sometimes the passions that define you aren’t obvious at first. Sometimes they reveal themselves after everything shifts. That doesn’t mean something was wrong before. It just means you were becoming.

Wherever you feel like a visitor right now, keep going. You’re not behind. You’re gathering perspective.

This is me. Deaf. Hearing. Singer. Songwriter. Visual artist. Human.

And I’m grateful for every version. by @themotomaiden

Hi. It’s been a minute. Want to introduce myself again. If you’re new here - thank you 🙏 if you’re already here, hello again. I’m kind of in a crossroads so to speak. In a good way. That way that sets you on a bridge to your new path. I’m doing so many things it almost feels like I’m doing nothing if that makes sense. Who I know I am: an artist, a musician/singer/writer, a senior dog mom, a motorcycle rider/lover, a passionate advocate for accessibility and inclusion, a fighter for love and being kind-loyal-honest. I know the world is heavy but it always has been before my generation and it will be when we’re gone. I don’t want to waste time on things that don’t help me see more good, gain growth to be a better person or loose faith that life can be above and beyond what I dream. I spent the first few decades of my life learning to adapt in a hearing world but what I really learned was that what this world really needs is to hear each other’s voices, hearts and connection. I’m tired and still so very grateful. But always trying to do my best. Always working to grow and be the best version I can be and hopefully help others see their light too. I’m not so sure change is painful anymore, it’s staying the same that will kill you. ❣️ by @themotomaiden

Never stop giving that little you all the love and happiness. I could honestly write a whole A55 novel about that (that might be a hidden in plain sight hint 😉) but for now I’ll just say this: don’t you stop for a second to do what little you would be so excited that big you is doing now. Life is too short. by @themotomaiden

Kickstand Mondays thanks to @shannonleboeuf and @kindatropical is nice, you should get there! Please lemme know if I didn’t tag you - I’m sure I didn’t tag everyone! Lemme know in the comments and I’ll add ya! Hope to see y’all again next time! by @themotomaiden

I do believe we limit our ability at times because our fear of failure but also fear of success. Imposter syndrome. It’s hard to get out of that space. Like training for a marathon - repetition, endurance, belief. I think it’s like using any muscle we train to carry us through to a goal or a habit to become a way of life. Sometimes once we start realizing we are getting what we dreamed of it feels like it can’t be true and we self sabotage that, feeling further from deserving it.

I hope you’ll lean into even just a little bit, let down your armor and just let it seep in a little bit to feel the possibilities. by @themotomaiden

It’s ok to think you should have done things differently. It’s also ok to feel like you did all you could at the time you didn’t know what you know now.

You can only step forward with each new chapter by being the version of you at this moment. Embrace the process, there’s nothing you need to feel sorry about when you were only working on who you were to become who you are and who you want to become. by @themotomaiden

I don’t know about you but I’m tired of a lot of this world, and not in a way of giving up. In a way of standing at loose rocks on a canyon where you have that stomach flip and a question inside your head too fast to speak to yourself, “am I about to fall or fly?”. There. Right there. A moment so thin and simultaneously thick you almost feel you’re leaving the answer up to fate to respond. You don’t have to. You have the opportunity to make a choice. So often, it can be an easy place to stay comfortable to not make a decision because fear loves to answer first. Fear will choose for you, don’t let it.

This year has taught me we can look at fear with sympathy and remember it’s just us still that hasn’t tried to fly. We just have to show it we’re in it together. Jump together, to see you’re on the same team of getting to the other side. by @themotomaiden

Time has a way of changing the view in the rearview mirror. Some things become clearer, some things become lighter, and some things you learn to carry with gratitude rather than regret.

When I look back at the road that brought me here, I see so much more than miles. I see the people who rode alongside me for a while, the friends who came and went, the ones who left a lasting mark, and the ones who continue to show up, cheer me on, and remind me how good it feels to keep growing.

Every connection, every goodbye, every unexpected turn, and every person who believed in me has helped shape the woman I am today, both on and off the bike. I’m grateful for the chapters that brought me here, even the ones I didn’t understand at the time.

My bike has given me more than the freedom of the open road. It’s given me space to think, room to breathe, the courage to try new things, and a way to reconnect with parts of myself I never want to lose.

I can’t change the road behind me, and I wouldn’t want to erase it. Too many good people, good memories, and important lessons live back there.

So here’s to the miles behind me, the people who helped shape them, the ones riding alongside me now, and all the roads I haven’t met yet. 🖤🏍️

I re-edited this video for a big reason. Maybe a couple, actually. If you don’t know I was born with a severe-profound hearing loss. I had in audiological terms about a 70PTA (Pure Tone Average) which means I had roughly about 25%-30% hearing. I was born with very painful conditions that caused my hearing bones and soft tissue to calcify ultimately leading to reconstruction surgeries later in life. On top of this I was born with a rare cleft palate and bifid uvula. Later in life over the years having my last ear reconstruction at age 30.

Why am I telling you this? Because one of the few joy’s technology has gifted me and this world is accessibility. Captioning being a BIG one. Lyrics are significant to me as someone who loves music and as a musician now myself, writer and singer.

So, getting captions for song lyrics right is a huge deal to me, too. Since the automated captioning generated some of the lyrics to this song incorrectly when I first posted it, I wanted to be sure I corrected that. Out of respect to the artist as well. Someone I respect a ton.

Like life, technology will never be perfect, but we as humans can always take the time to bridge the gap for better communication and accessibility.

I know what it means to have someone care to take the time to go the distance just a little further to be sure that I felt included, and I hope everyone can try to see that is so important for all of us to remember and deliver.

So, today was my first filming attempt for my soon to be future YouTube channel. This is what I could salvage and edit to give it my style to save it because I put incorrect exposure settings into the camera. And this is when the most perfect way life reminds you that you aren’t making a mistake, you’re just being redirected to follow your authenticity.

I’m not an influencer. I don’t want to be “that”. My heart lines are to help people, to be supportive, to share art, and hopefully just reach others who may connect with my weird perspective/arty visions.

That said, here’s one of my favorite songs (among a dozen) from one of my favorite bands @theblackangels . Here’s also footage of my ride today and this little camera hiccup has now completely upgraded my YouTube channel video idea completely. More to come. Stay authentic dear friends, in these times we need that more than ever, or anything. by @themotomaiden

Last night at @motogarden.atx ending the night with new friends and trying to savor these last meetups at @central.machine.works before season pauses. I’m so grateful @renoozzren has made this special time for us all to gather. It’s something that helps me look forward to something when I am lost in all the chaos in the rest of my week.

Thanks for this footage @that_ramdon_guy_ by @themotomaiden
