💎The 2026 Georgia Jewel was a family affair💎

Not since my first GA Jewel in 2020 had the entire fam made the trip to Dalton. I ran the Jewel in 2020 & 2021, then decided to volunteer in 2022, and I have volunteered every year since then.

AG joined me last year and became a “Jewel Kid”… the group of volunteer kids who spend the weekend running feral while we work the event (we put the kids to work too!).

The Jewel volunteer crew has become like family to me. I wanted my whole family to meet the Jewel crew and experience the weekend working this amazing event.

2026 was our year.

There was an Airbnb for the ladies who came on the condition of “not camping”, but those of us who prefer parking lot camping still did our thing.

We carried on traditions, like Cherokee Pizza, chicken minis, and my annual beer date with Tom.

We had the hottest weather of any Jewel in the last 10+ years. The heat wreaked havoc on the runners and caused a high DNF rate. But miraculously, a small rain front late Saturday afternoon dropped the temps from 98° to 76°. What a gift!

There were so many incredible runners. A legally blind runner. A man from Peru. A woman who ran on the one year anniversary of her husband’s passing. Two young Mennonite ladies who ran 50 miles in long dresses and sandals. A Catholic priest from Atlanta who, after finishing 100 miles (his first 100), celebrated Mass in the parking lot. And so many stories of runners helping and encouraging other runners.

I’ll be back in 2027… hopefully with the whole fam again. 💎🫶 by @thenickkovar

Manitou Incline... 2,768 steps rising nearly 2,000 vertical feet in less than a mile. by @thenickkovar

The 9th Colorado mountain climbing adventure with my Dad.

Day 1: Manitou Incline

Day 2: Mt Yale (my 24th CO 14’er)

Day 3: Herman Gulch to Herman Lake

Day 4: Sunrise stroll around Idaho Springs

Boon-doggled two nights in the back of the ‘White Limo’, Dad’s long bed F150 that he built out for these adventures. One night at the Mt Yale trailhead and the second night at a killer spot next to the Arkansas River, where we got to meet Muzzy the pack racing burro.

Showered at a public facility where you drop in four quarters for two mins of water. Thanks to my childhood in the Virgin Islands, where we had to conserve water, I know how to take a very fast shower.

Ate so much good food: K’s Dairy Delight (2x), Jan’s (giant breakfast burrito), Beau Jo’s (pizza), and a few deliciously simple meals cooked on the tailgate.

Saw several amazing sunrises and sunsets.

Spent an hour on the summit of Mt Yale… perhaps the best summit weather of any 14’er I’ve climbed. Also among the best summit views.

Best of all… made more memories with my Dad.

Colorado, you’ll always have a special place in my heart. See you next year! by @thenickkovar

The end of an era… 🤸‍♀️😢🫶

10 years ago, Cassidy attended a classmate’s birthday party at My Gym. A short time later, she started gymnastics there. Since then it’s been a weekly staple for at least one of our girls.

About six years ago Annie Grace started her tumbling journey on those same mats. From summersaults to cartwheels. Then back handsprings, aerials, and tucks.

Tonight was Annie Grace’s last class. When kids graduate from My Gym, they give each the chance to take their “last pass”. This was AG’s last time to tumble on those mats. by @thenickkovar
