One year ago, I camped in the shadow of a Nunatak. Over the course of the following days, I talked to @bennettslavsky on the skin track. We reminisced on past collaborations in writing and photography. We discussed our present views on the craft of storytelling and print media. And we hatched a plan to create our own avenue for channeling creativity and expression in our communities.

One year has passed, and we have compiled, designed, read, adjusted, formatted, corrected, and obsessed over one hundred pages. We filled them with words and photographs, adventures and sentiments. Every time I flick through a copy, the content continues to make me smile, laugh, reflect, and cry.

It’s been held by loved ones and by total strangers, and I’m eternally grateful for all who gave us a bit of your time. We still have a few copies left in print of the inaugural issue, so pick one up! We’re now working on the second, if you or anyone you know has a story, a photo, or a poem they would like to share, reach out! by @thenunatak

We dropped off all three published issues at the world famous @lattedacoffee on the east side! If you find yourself in the Sierras, pop in for a drink and check out @thenunatak

Curious about the third issue? Here’s a quick look at the contents! by @thenunatak

Lucy is a writer and a teacher with an enduring love of words and the outdoors. After eight years of skiing/biking/camping/hiking in British Columbia’s Rocky Mountains, she made the move to the East Coast of Australia. She now lives by the Tweed River with her partner, Jack, and their dog, Cash. As well as teaching high school history, she’s embracing life by the ocean—learning to surf and attempting to catch mudcrabs.

Your mom reads the Nunatak.
And if she doesn’t, you should probably get her one. I bet she would like that.

Happy Mother’s Day to all the wonderful moms out there who make the world go round. by @thenunatak

Miles Fullman has been a climber for most of his life, calling Yosemite home during the summer for the last eight years and planning expeditions during the winters. In the last few years he has increasingly focused on practicing his writing and photography to share his experiences and get others excited to pursue dreams of their own.

In “Nuuttuittuq,” Miles’s meditation on life, climbing, and love, he muses:

“Polaris: the North Star. The Inuit name for this beacon is Nuuttuittuq, literally translating as “the one that never moves.” Such constancy amid ceaseless change has appealed to all eras of history. We are always in search of something to set a course by, something larger than ourselves by which we might live with certainty and conviction. To the wayward spirit, there is something irresistibly alluring about heading due North in search of a real adventure.”
