When I was a little girl, my Grandmother used to take me to vote with her every election. I recall these used to be a special walk we would take and some of my favorite one on one moments with her. She, as a Homemaker, would always speak to me about the importance of voting but also being independent and how sometimes going against the grain was a lonely road. Despite, Grams being in apart of the GOP (cause the chokehold it has on Cubans - am I right?! 🤦🏾‍♀️), when I turned 18 we legit had a family meeting about voting and registering to vote… my Dad and I were the outliers in the Pinillos Household (💙) pero boy oh boy was my decision respected by mi Viejita.

There’s not a day that goes by that I don’t miss that lady and my people.
