Mom and son challenge. by @therealtalkswithme

If you think you’re raising your child the right way, ask them these 7 questions.

The answers might surprise you.

1. How do you know that I love you? If your child says “you hug me” or “you play with me,” it means they recognize your love through those moments of connection and attention. If they say “I don’t know,” it may mean they don’t clearly notice or understand how they experience your love.

2. If I were a cartoon character, who would I be? If they name a kind or positive character, it usually means they see you as safe and supportive. If they choose a strict or negative character, it may reflect feelings of pressure, fear, or how they experience your reactions.

3. When you make a mistake, what do you think I’ll do? If they say “you’ll get mad” or “you’ll yell,” it may mean they expect criticism or punishment. If they say “you’ll help me,” it shows they feel supported and trust your response.

4. If you could add one rule to our family, what would it be? Children often use this question to express what they feel is missing — whether it’s more time together, more freedom, or more attention from you.

5. When I’m busy, what do you usually do? If they say “I wait,” it may mean they hold back their needs or don’t want to interrupt you. If they say “I still come to you,” it suggests they feel comfortable approaching you even when you’re occupied.

6. What do you like least about me? This can be a difficult question to ask, but it often reveals what bothers your child the most — your tone, lack of attention, or moments when they feel unheard.

7. If we switched roles for a day, what would you do? If they say “rest all day,” it may suggest they feel overwhelmed or notice how tired you are. If they say “buy whatever I want,” it can point to a desire for more freedom, attention, or connection.

Sometimes children reveal more through simple answers than we expect. What did your child say?
