Earlier this year, some friends shared with us their daughters braces set up and connected us with their orthotics guy who has a passion for helping kids get the right set up that can allow as much independent movement as possible.

He saw us from out of state, knowing we wouldn’t be able to be a long term patient. He didn’t even ask us to pay for the piece he swapped in Jacks HKAFOs.

The set up Jack had before was too supportive for him and he wasn’t able to use what core muscles he has to move and advance his legs like this.

We never thought we would see Jack be able to attempt to take some steps like this. We are so happy for him to have the opportunity to try and we are thankful for providers like this one who are willing to go above and beyond for kids like Jack! by @therehrers

There was a good amount of time when Jack sang this song over and over throughout the day. He is two and something in this video, and these words were written on his little heart.

Our church would sing this a lot for worship. If you have littles at church, know that all of those words and songs are sinking in, even when you don’t know it!

We don’t fully understand #gestaltlanguageprocessing but we know that kids who learn language this way are very musical and love learning melodies. I’m not sure what part these songs played in his language learning, but I know they have significant meaning to him.

It’s been a while since Jack sang in this way and his string instrument playing was traded in for the drums for a bit, but we are praying that God continues to use music in Jacks life in whatever way he has planned for him! We would love you to join us to pray that Jack never loses his love for music, as it has brought us so much joy and hope as a family over the years! by @therehrers

I just learned recently that in Hebrew, the words hoping and waiting are the same. The three different Hebrew words (qavah, yachal, and tiqvah) all mean some form of: to wait, to hope, to eagerly expect, to endure through trials, like a cord bound together providing strength for endurance.

In Hebrews chapter 11, each story begins with the words “it was by faith…” it was by their faith and hope in something greater that helped them face the trials they encountered.

I’m consistently clinging onto this hope. and I am encouraged that in my waiting, expecting, and hoping in what I can’t yet see — I am worshipping.
Even in the hardest seasons, hoping and waiting is an act of faith.

“He is good to those who wait for Him, to the soul who seeks Him.” — Lamentations 3:25

On most days in the middle of the day when the other two are napping, you will find me here…

Of course there are days when I feel like skipping these routines we have set for Jack, but my motivation to be consistent comes from knowing what is best for Him. Even if walking isn’t functional, standing time is so good for his bones, heart, digestive system, and I think it probably feels good for him to stand.

Something amazing about these braces is that our friends shared their orthotist in Montana with us who is this very special guy who believes in these kids and helps set up their braces to allow them a bit more freedom to move, so a big shout out to him for taking us on as his patients even from so far away and caring to much about Jack, who he doesn’t even know! I will post another video soon of Jack taking some actual steps which wouldn’t be possible without his care.

Very few people in my life know of the full midday routine we do with Jack which can take about an hour.
All of you special needs moms out there are amazing! On the days that you don’t feel known or seen, we see you! We may not know your specific daily tasks but we know you are doing a mighty work every day that is not easy! by @therehrers

Romans 15:13 has been our life verse the past 6 years.. always needing God to be our source of hope and realizing over and over that he only can be when we trust Him and don’t doubt in his goodness and faithfulness.

I pray that God the source of hope will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit.

It’s a great one to memorize if you haven’t already!

Amazing Grace how sweet the sound! This one never gets old and we all know the depths of this truth! It really is amazing Grace!

Thank you for this reminder Jack that with Jesus our eyes and hearts are opened to our deep need for His love and grace and mercy.

Here is our simple bedtime routine:
- baths
- pjs
- brushing teeth
- books
- sing to Mila
- Mila goes to bed
- more books
- Jack and Arlo go to bed

Most sleep guidance resources suggest a simple bedtime routine to send a little heads up that sleep is coming. Even in the first few months of life, babies can begin to recognize routines and rhythms.

Our bedtime routine has always involved reading and singing together before bed. The song list seems to keep growing and now we sing the same 4-5 songs every night.

Mila always gets a big smile on her face as soon as we start singing. She loves that all of us are singing to her and it is a sweet way to end each day. Jack and Arlo love this role of singing to her too!

After Mila goes to bed, we read a few more books and then Jack and Arlo climb into bed too.

We usually play some stories on the Yoto player and they talk and giggle before eventually falling asleep.

Chris and I then have some time together at the end of each day.

Well, I almost missed Spina Bifida Awareness month! I had to take this opportunity to share a little reel of Jacks sweet life.

I can’t help but think back to the emotions we were experiencing during the last couple of months of my pregnancy, and then how I felt when I first laid eyes on this sweet boy. I couldn’t imagine this earth without him.

Jack, you make life better and brighter, and we are so honored to be your parents. Your life is a sweet gift from God. We are so excited for all that He will continue to do in your life. by @therehrers

This is a song Chris randomly started singing with Jack a few years ago and we are still singing it.

The lyrics are:

Eye surgery went well for all who were following that! We are heading back to Hawaii. Praying that this surgery works for life so that Jacks eyes can be straight!
