The Safeguarding Collective. Safeguarding is everyone's responsibility. by @thesafeguardingcollective

Who needs The Safeguarding Collective? Spoiler... it is probably you.

This is for the professionals who see safeguarding as bigger than one person or one organisation.

The ones who believe that when everyone is properly equipped, children are safer. The ones who want specialist knowledge, not just a certificate to file away.

If you work with children or vulnerable people and you take that responsibility seriously, you are already part of something important.

We are just here to make sure you have everything you need to do it with confidence.

Our first free webinar is Friday 10th July ..3 Actions Every DSL Can Take to Strengthen a Safeguarding Referral. 30 minutes. Practical. Specialist knowledge rooted in real frontline practice.

Hi, human here.

Fully capable of delivering a high quality training session whilst prioritising the comfort of my pjamas and odd socks (it’s been a long but lovely summer of limited childcare and we are where we are).

There have been so many changes across legislation & statutory guidance- I know that you know that - but if you need your refresher training and you want to feel really confident around the changes, how to implement them plus develop all your core safeguarding skills then my one day refresher is for you.

Be part of the cohort of committed safeguarding professionals who put their training first.

Comment or message me DSL & I’ll share all the info you need. by @thesafeguardingcollective

Children are more than capable of learning the names of all their body parts. It's adults who perpetuate the emotions of fear and shame attached to certain words.

Would we teach a child to brush their teeth without using the word teeth? Do we realise that 'wipe your bum after you go to the toilet' isn't always relevant but is usually said most frequently?

Can't stop won't stop caveats....

1. The irony that if I use the words of body parts this app will block me is not lost on me.

2. There is not enough time in 3 minutes to unpick the systemic factors and discrimination in the term school readiness

3. There will still be children who struggle even if they are equipped with the name of body parts especially children who process language differently. It doesn't mean we can't incorporate this.

4. This is not a suggestion that teachers add this to the list of things they are responsible for... They genuinely have enough to do. This is everyone's responsibility.

5. One of the foundations of safeguarding is bodily autonomy, abuse thrives in conditions of shame and silence. Giving children words or means of communicating anything without judgement will always benefit them.

Being a DSL means your day is unpredictable. Your training doesn't have to be.

DSL Full Day Refresher, Wednesday 30th September, 10am to 4pm, online via Zoom. Founding cohort places open now.

This is for the DSL who plans ahead. Who wants training that's already been thought through, not thrown together the week before an audit.

I'm Vicki. I train safeguarding professionals in every sector.

Comment DSL and I'll send you the details. by @thesafeguardingcollective

It's better to have it and not need it, then need it and not have it - line officially borrowed.

Last month I sat down with Andrea to complete a policy review for her children's group and franchisees. She joined me on the podcast after to talk about the importance of Safeguarding for Children's Activity providers.

Whether its a music class, baby group, art and drama or sports clubs, children deserve activity providers who know what they are doing and why they are doing it when it comes to Safeguarding.

If you run a group for children make sure your safeguarding is up to date and relevant to your business.

It gives me the ick that despite very little evidence that stress, pressure and an unrealistic deadline produces quality output, safeguarding leads in schools and early years are expected to navigate new statutory guidance in such a short space of time.

If you know you want to approach September, feeling calm and prepared, feeling confident with the new statutory guidance and actually understanding how you can implement it in your setting then comment safeguarding to join one (or all) of my free webinars this August.

For skilled professionals who know try want specialist safeguarding knowledge.

I've been there. I've clicked through multiple choice boxes and got the certificate.

There is sometimes a place for this kind of learning but not when it comes to safeguarding. We have access to knowledge at our fingertips, so it's now not hard to access but when it comes to application to real life, sector specific information and changes, up to date research and the humanity of safeguarding, tick box isn't enough.

@thesafeguardingcollective is for people working with children who aren't thinking about ticking boxes, they are thinking about meeting children where they are at, striving for excellence, raising standards and seeking out specialism.

We are running free webinars over summer from safeguarding policy, core skills to safeguarding culture.
