POSTS STORIES REELS

Sunday at the studio felt really special.

We spent the afternoon carving woodblocks, inking them, and slowly watching everyone’s ideas come to life on paper.

It was a small group, mostly wonderful women celebrating Women’s Day, and one very kind gentleman who joined us as well.

The conversations were wholesome, the studio was full of laughter, curiosity, and a little bit of ink on everyone’s hands.

I always feel a little anxious before meeting new people, but the moment we start carving and talking, everything begins to flow naturally.

Printmaking has a way of slowing us down and bringing people together in the most unexpected ways.

Thank you to everyone who came and shared the space with me. It was amazing hosting you guys.

If you’d like to join a future workshop, keep an eye on the next studio dates. by @thesmallstudio_ke

Hi… I think it’s time I properly introduce myself 🥺✨

I’m Elnah, a printmaker and artist based in Nairobi.

My work exists somewhere between introspection and nature between quiet, internal moments and the softness of the world around me.

I create portrait pieces using my own photos, and most times these pieces are raw, intensely personal, and unfiltered. I am learning to love and to look at myself without needing to look away.

I also explore animals and organic forms, turtles, pangolins, chickens, plants, things that feel alive and grounding to me. And my love for patterns is very evident in my work. Sometimes I tend to think my brain loves pattern work more than anything else☺️

Somehow, all of it comes together into one body of work that I’m still growing into. I think I’m still learning, still exploring, still becoming, but I really love what I do.

If you’re new here, welcome 🤍

I’m also hosting a small printmaking workshop this Sunday if you’d like to join ✨ by @thesmallstudio_ke

‘A Muse of One’s Own’ is a curation of works aimed to evoke the female gaze in viewers and open them to the perspectives of and depictions by women artists. The artworks collectively take back power on how women choose to view and portray themselves. We welcome you to explore the global south feminist themes that unravel through the show: womanhood, intimacy, women at leisure, joy, sovereignty, community and more.

Running through October 31st - November 21st 2026.
Opening Reception on Saturday October 31st, 3pm-6pm. (Walk-through: 3.30pm)
📍The Canteen, Gedi Road, Nairobi (parking available at Lavington Mall).

Free to attend for all.
All works and prints will be available to purchase. by @thesmallstudio_ke

Little prints, looking for new homes🌼🐢🐟🧡

Over the past couple of months, I’ve been carving, printing and experimenting with colour at the studio, creating a collection of original mini prints featuring some of my favourite motifs.

From flowers, turtles, fish and dragonflies, each piece is an original artwork made by hand at The Small Studio.

If you’ve been thinking about collecting original art or finding a special piece for your space, this might be your sign🧡

Original mini prints are available at KSh 6,000 each.

Swipe through, explore the collection, find a favourite, and DM me to purchase. by @thesmallstudio_ke

Slow, deliberate, and carved by hand. 🪵

Meet and welcome @thesmallstudio_ke to the AMM vendor community! 🎉🥳
This Nairobi printmaking studio built from a quiet but persistent knowing that art was meant to be the path. 🤎

After studying Fine Art at Kenyatta University and years working under an established artist, the founder opened her own studio in March 2022: a space that was truly hers, to build something real from the work of her hands. ✨

Every print is handcarved and handprinted, so no two are ever the same. The work draws on nature, memory, vulnerability and strength, and finds beauty in the ordinary. 🌿

Come and meet the artist, and take home a piece with a real story behind it, made by real hands and a labour of love. 💛

See you at The Small Studio💛☺️ by @thesmallstudio_ke

Well… hello☺️

It’s been a whole minute.

I don’t really have a big explanation for my disappearance. Life has been lifing. I got busy living it, figuring things out, making things, changing things, starting things, pausing things, you know how it goes sometimes.

Anyway, I’m here again. Slowly.

A little life lately, from my corner of the world. by @thesmallstudio_ke

July was something🧡

Workshops, new faces, long studio days, rooms that stretched me and people who showed up, for the work and for me.

To everyone who came through The Small Studio this month, thank you. You made it worthwhile in so many ways.

The studio kept being my anchor. The prints kept coming. And somewhere in the middle of all of it, I kept going too.

Grateful for this month. Grateful for this work. Grateful for you.
And August is already calling☺️ by @thesmallstudio_ke

I’ve been thinking a lot about the person I was before I learned how to protect myself. Before all the walls, the boundaries. Before I built the fortress.

These two prints came from that place.

Before I Built the Fortress I & II are about the versions of myself (ourselves) that existed before we learned what it meant to survive, to protect, to become so guarded.

Maybe the fortress wasn’t always there. Maybe we built it slowly, piece by piece. And maybe it’s worth remembering who we were before we did. I think its crucial to actually remember how the journey up until these very moment has been.

I’ve been thinking about slower ways of staying connected to the community that I’m building.

I’ve always been sharing finished pieces yet there’s so much that happens behind the scenes. The quiet mornings, late nights at the studio, the unending doubt, the lessons I get to learn myself while carving the boards, creating the prints, the wins, the losses, the struggles and everything that shapes the pieces before they find their way to your homes, to your loved ones.

I’ll be honest I didn’t really enjoy sending monthly emails every time. And I’ve decided to switch things up a little bit. So I’m bringing back my mailing list with a new lease of life🥺

‘Letters from The Small Studio’ will be a seasonal letter, a slower and more personal way of sharing my journey with you.

If that sounds like something you’d love to be part of, I’d be so happy to have you there. Much love to everyone who’s been signing up lately. I don’t take it for granted.

You’ll find the link in my bio🧡

Until then,
See you around the studio.
