This is why how you show up matters.

During Red Ribbon Week, one of our themes was Swap Day. This sweet girl, who isn’t even one of my students, approached me to tell me she had dressed up as ME!

Let that sink in for a moment. A young girl whom I’d only seen in passing, and had taken a moment to introduce myself to one day, decided that I’d made enough of an impression on her that she wanted to emulate me.

And THAT is why I say the little things matter.

It costs absolutely nothing to make a positive impact on a child. When I’m on duty, I make it a point to speak to as many students as possible. If I see an unfamiliar face, I introduce myself. And when I see that face again, I make sure to acknowledge them.

Not because they’re in my class. Not because I’m obligated to. But because every child deserves to feel seen, valued, and acknowledged.

Sometimes we get so caught up in the academic side of education that we forget just how much influence we have simply by being present and intentional.

You never know who’s watching, who’s looking up to you, or whose day you’re making just by saying hello.

And sometimes, you don’t even realize the impression you’ve made until a little girl shows up to school dressed just like you. 🥹

Representation matters. Relationships matter. And how you show up ALWAYS matters. by @thetanyanicole

I don’t look like what I’ve been through, and I don’t move like who I used to be. Getting here wasn’t easy, yet through it all, I learned how to bloom anyway.

Soulful, grown, and deeply romantic. A blend of R&B and neo-soul for the kind of love that feels safe, passionate, intentional, and real. For slow mornings, late-night conversations, falling in love, staying in love—and still believing the right kind of love exists. by @thetanyanicole

Once I stood here as a student. Today, I stand here as a proud alumna watching my daughter begin her own journey.

Legacy isn’t just what you leave behind, it’s who walks through the door after you. Welcome to the Tiger family Big Girl 🐅 ♥️🩶

These are the books I’ve consumed this school year. I use the word“consume” because I know how some of y’all like to get up in arms when someone says they “read” an audiobook.

I’m currently consuming the Arsenio Hall memoir and slowly but surely reading The Handmaid’s Tale. I say slowly because I’ve watched the series and know the spoilers. My TBR: Yesteryear by Caro Claire Burke

HBY, what books are you consuming?
