“Proud” doesn’t even begin to describe how I felt watching you race yesterday. Eight years after being shot in the leg by “isr@el”, my fellow Gazan, there you were in Japan, racing in the Asian Games and doing what you love. Seeing it with my own eyes was something I’ll never forget. @thisisaldali , you remind us that we are so much more than what’s been done to us. We are our dreams, our ambitions, our talents, and our determination to keep going, even when the world gives us every reason not to. It was an absolute honor to meet you, stand beside you, and cheer you on yesterday. I wish you could see yourself through our eyes and know just how much you inspire us. I’ll be cheering for you and the entire @gazasunbirds family every step of the way. I’m your biggest fan (after your wife and kids of course), and I can’t wait to see what’s next for you. Minha lal a3la Insha’Allah ya rab 🙏🏽 And a special mention to @thisiskarimali, Gaza Sunbirds co-founder, and @flavia.cappellini , the journalist who first took an interest in Alaa’s story all those years ago and continues to stand by him today. Thank you both for believing in Alaa and in all the Palestinians you work alongside, for showing up time and time again, and for making sure our stories are heard and never forgotten. May our people always find those who stand beside us, not just in our pain, but in our joy, our dreams, and everything we continue to fight for ❤️🇵🇸 by @thisisaldali
A dream that refused to disappear. In 2018, Alaa Al-Dali’s life changed forever. The Palestinian cyclist was shot in Gaza and lost his right leg. A sporting dream, one he had worked towards for years, suddenly seemed out of reach. But Alaa never stopped being a cyclist. He learned to ride again, co-founded the Gaza Sunbirds and continued fighting for his place in the sport. All while carrying the weight of a reality that extends far beyond the finish line. Now, eight years later, he gets another chance to represent Palestine on the international stage at the Asian Para Games in Japan. Behind the athlete in these photographs is a man whose story cannot be reduced to what happened to him. There is ambition, determination, uncertainty and a dream that refused to disappear. Alaa, I hope you get to show the world what you are capable of. 🇵🇸 by @thisisaldali
Have you ever had your dream stolen? 8 years ago @thisisaldali was supposed compete at the Asian Games, but the occupation made sure he lost his leg. 2 years later with @thisiskarimali the Sunbirds was born to raise the Palestinian flag on the world stage on 1 leg. Today that dream was achieved!🇵🇸 The Sunbirds is bigger than us. It’s the sacrifices of our team, our families, our country, and our supporters; all of you who made this possible. It’s moments like this that make it all worth it. That show us what we are capable of when we come to build together, and when love overpowers greed. We hope that Alaa and our team’s journey can inspire us all to keep coming together, to resist despair, and to fight for a new and better future. by @thisisaldali
You’re welcome @adidas here is who you should have @thisisaldali Adidas ran a Single Shoe Service…you buy one shoe instead of a pair, the picked a former IDF soldier to promote it. The same people we’ve been watching dismember children and athletes alike. Now this is Alaa al-Dali. In March 2018 he had qualified for the Palestinian cycling team at the Asian Games. On the first day of the Great March of Return he stood far back from the fence, in his cycling kit, holding his road bike. A sniper shot him in the right leg. Eight operations later they amputated it. …they choose to do this to young men deliberately…A cyclist. Two footballers. All in the knees. Alaa went on to co-found the Gaza Sunbirds and became the first Palestinian to finish top 20 at a Para-Cycling World Cup…and that’s who you would want to have as a sports brand ambassador. by @thisisaldali

The Gaza Sunbirds joined the Dublin to Belfast Palestine Solidarity Cycle 2026 last weekend. It was a cycle filled with solidarity, humanity and humour. A huge thank you to Cycle Ireland, the clubs and community centres that hosted us, the people who came out onto the roads to wave their Palestinian flags and cheer us on, and to all the fantastic cyclists who braved the roads and hills!! What an amazing ride from Oxford to Henley-on-Thames, shared with such a brilliant group of people. Riding alongside Gaza Sunbirds champions Alaa and Asfour was truly inspiring — their strength, resilience and incredible energy lifted us all. 100km of riding, good company, great energy and a lot of moments that made the day so special. Definitely one of the best 100km I’ve ever ridden, and one I’ll never forget. A special ride with very special people. 🇵🇸🚴‍♂️❤️ by @thisisaldali
