This incredibly clean all korina Piatta is headed to @miyaji_music_kanda in Japan. They’re Thorn’s oldest dealer - over 20 years!
Thorn GT-90 staple top pickup in the neck with a Ron Ellis “Sig” in the bridge - the best of both worlds combination.
Thorn Knuckle-Wrap bridge, 4-ply guard with 60 deg. bevels, Madagascar board with cellulose dots, and extra-long tenon on the set-neck are all standard specs on the Piatta model.
Thank you my friends!

Korina, Madagascar and an Ellis “Frissel” - light, open, smooooth #jazzitup

A few recently supplied customer photos of the Thorn Brass Knuckle II installed on their offsets.
Drop in replacement for any thimble-style bridge, eliminates so many quirks found in mass-produced low-cost factory bridges. Adjustable brass saddle has precision machined peaks in each string slot for accurate intonation.
Multiple radii available, including left-hand and wound-G strings. Visit thornguitars.com to see the entire Knuckle line-up

My copy of Wire & Wood: The Guitars Of Steve Vai by @michaelmeskerdesign arrived today. What an incredible presentation of countless custom guitars. The photography is so clean, tight and in many instances “super macro” that I know every craftsman that worked on any of these instruments was sweating it 😂
I had the honor of being interviewed by Michael for these books due to my inlay, paint, and other contributions to many of these guitars while working with the talented builders at the Ibanez Custom Shop for close to 20 years. Lots of memories and flashbacks turning the pages and reading, and in some instances seeing the completed guitars for the first time.
This is a wonderful collection for anyone that appreciates custom guitars, guitar photography, the labor that goes into creating them, and the sheer brilliance and vision of Steve Vai for commissioning them. Well done, my friend!

A Florentine “Singularis” underway. A lovely one-piece curly Koa carve top over a one-piece black limba solid body. Note the 4-ply inlaid offset purfling of ebony and maple around the perimeter. Now, onto the neck!

I love the fact that I can build something simply because I want to. This guitar has been over two years in the making, with time spent here and there, tinkering, exploring ideas, and letting inspiration find its way to me rather than forcing it.

The first resonator guitars appeared exactly 100 years ago, placing their birth squarely in the middle of the Art Deco movement. A perfect convergence of history and design - a theme was determined.

Then there are the woods…
Starting with the main attraction: the bookmatched top is made from “The Tree” — a single mahogany tree felled in the 1960s that has since become one of the most celebrated timber in the worlds of musical instruments, fine furniture, and objets d’art. The top is inlaid into the body with the cone cover carefully removed to preserve figure alignment and continuity.

The very definition of a limited resource.

The body is carved from a single piece of 2½” thick curly maple that has been in my possession for more than two decades, waiting for the right project.
The neck is cut from a similarly figured blank, capped with a slab of Brazilian rosewood so dark and tight-grained that most would swear it was ebony.
A @fishmanmusic piezo loaded biscuit bridge sits on a @nationalguitars hand-spun cone, running thru an onboard preamp to blend with the gold foil neck pickup.

Utilizing as much of The Tree as possible, the inlays, truss-rod filler strip and nickel silver nut support are cut from the remnant. Even the truss rod cover is the cutout from one of the cone cover’s sound holes.
Gold-lip mother of pearl highlights the deco inlay designs.
The palm rest, pickup bezel, and battery access cover are all carved from body remnant, too.
The front half of the nut and tail-piece are fabricated from nickel-silver, same material as the fretwire.
Custom wood Deco volume knobs control each pickup independently, along with a 3-way for either or both.
Plenty loud to play acoustically and the resonator tones chime thru the amp if increased volume is needed. All finished in clear nitro-lacquer.

Thank you for reading this far. I hope you enjoyed looking at my love and passion.
