With the weather at @sydneymotorsportpark for last night's NightDrive for Learners better suited to a canoe than a car, the team made the most of the opportunity, allowing the group of learner drivers to gain some valuable experience in wet weather.

Last night was also a great opportunity for our Highway Patrol officers and the experts from @drivingsolutions to demonstrate the importance of tyre maintenance and correct tyre pressures, providing practical examples of the adverse effects of an under-inflated tyre and a tyre worn beyond its tread wear indicators.

This free program is hosted by the @ardc52 on the first Tuesday of each month. More information is available via the link in the comments.

The program gives learner drivers the opportunity to drive around the circuit under road conditions, building valuable experience and confidence without the pressures of other road users. Officers also have the opportunity to give a short presentation to the group before they hit the track and set up a mock RBT site in pit lane, where they can speak directly with the young drivers and their supervisors.

See you all next month! 🙂 by @thpcnswpf

Street Race and Pursuit leads to arrest in Greenacre.

At about 10:55pm on Thursday, 29 October 2026, officers from Auburn Highway Patrol observed a grey Ford Ranger and a white Toyota RAV4 street racing on the Hume Highway, Chullora. Police checked the vehicles' speeds at 120km/h in a signposted 70km/h zone.

Police caught up to the vehicles when the Ranger accelerated through a red right turn arrow at the intersection of the Hume Highway and Roberts Road, Greenacre, before turning onto Roberts Road and initiating a police pursuit.

During the pursuit, the Ranger reached speeds of no less than 170km/h in the 70km/h zone on Roberts Road before continuing through the back streets of Greenacre at high speed. The driver eventually stopped in Amarina Avenue, where police arrested an 18 year old man from Condell Park. He had an active P2 Provisional Licence. He told police that he was scared because he was racing a mate.

Upon inspection of the vehicle, police located three young male passengers, two of whom were aged 15.

The 18 year old was conveyed to Auburn Police Station, where he was charged with:
• Police pursuit – drive dangerously
• Take part in a race between vehicles
• Exceed speed limit by more than 45km/h
• Not stop at a red arrow

The man's driver's licence was suspended on the spot, and the vehicle was towed from the scene to be impounded for three months at the owner's expense.

Police granted the man conditional bail to appear before the Burwood Local Court at a later date. by @thpcnswpf

Disqualified driving and mail theft arrests in Wentworth Point.

At about 10:45am on Monday the 26th of October 2026, officers from Auburn Highway Patrol responded to a Triple Zero (000) call reporting people stealing items from mailboxes in Wentworth Point before leaving the area in a vehicle.

Police located the vehicle on Hill Road, Sydney Olympic Park, and stopped it. Officers spoke with the driver, a 40 year old female from Minto, and her passenger, a 39 year old male from Cartwright.

The female was unable to produce her licence and provided false details to police. Further inquiries revealed she was disqualified from driving until June 2027. She also returned a positive roadside drug test for methamphetamine.

A search of the vehicle and its occupants uncovered multiple stolen envelopes addressed to various residents, opened Amazon parcels, and several other items suspected of being stolen, including 7kg of coffee beans. Police also located 7g of cannabis on the woman, while the man was found in possession of Apple AirPods and keys to an MG motor vehicle.

While police were conducting their investigation, an Amazon delivery driver arrived at the scene after tracking the location of his Apple AirPods and MG keys. The items were identified as belonging to him and were returned at the scene. Police also returned the recovered mail to its rightful owners.

Both were arrested and taken to Auburn Police Station.

The female was charged with:
• Drive whilst disqualified, state false name/details to police, possess prohibited drug and goods in custody suspected of being stolen.

She was refused bail by police and later granted conditional bail by the courts.

The man was charged with:
• Goods in custody suspected of being stolen

He was refused bail by both police and the courts. by @thpcnswpf

Liverpool Highway Patrol officers detected this Mercedes-Benz GLC300 travelling at 75 km/h over the posted speed limit. When stopped and spoken to by police, the 19 year-old driver maintained “I wasn't speeding.”

The driver was issued a Traffic Infringement Notice for exceeding the speed limit by more than 45 km/h while holding a P2 licence, which was immediately suspended until April 2027.

The consequences of speeding extend far beyond a fine or licence suspension. In New South Wales alone, speeding contributes to 42% of all road fatalities and 25% of serious injuries each year. by @thpcnswpf

Since 21st August 2026, new e-bike seizure laws have come into effect.

Not all e-bikes sold in Australian shops or through online retailers are legal for road use. E-bikes that operate at higher speeds, have high-powered motors (even if restricted by software), or do not require pedalling cannot be used in public places.

Use of these non compliant e-bikes can attract significant penalties and may be seized by police and authorised officers. Any e-bike that has a throttle cannot exceed 6kph without being pedalled and all power assistance must cut out at 25kph. Currently, the maximum legal power output for an e-bike used in a public place in NSW is 500 watts. However after the 1 March 2029 this will be reduced to 250 watts.

Apart from ensuring that your e-bike is legal, e-bike riders must follow the same road rules that apply to regular bicycles. This includes wearing a helmet, not carrying more passengers than the bike is designed for, and complying with footpath riding rules. If you are 16 years of age or older and are not supervising a child under 16 years of age who is riding a bicycle, you cannot ride on the footpath.

Non-compliant e-bikes present a significant safety risk, to the rider and other people present. Remember, if you ride a non compliant e-bike in a public place it can be seized and destroyed. by @thpcnswpf
