Aama Studio film salon and conversation with @denverartmuseum this summer. ⛰️

In August, we kicked off our Denver weekend with a journey through the Aama world, screening our short film Salt Water alongside our PBS American Masters documentary, Threads of Legacy directed by @jamalademola.

Within the exhibition Conversation Pieces: Stories from the Fashion Archives, we joined in conversation reflecting on the familial archive, what it means to be stewards of history, and how cultural memory and material culture continue to shape our practice.

A warm exchange of stories, ideas and shared histories. Denver welcomed us with open arms.

Thank you @denverartmuseum and @color.of.fashion for a memorable weekend.

More soon.

The energy in the room was undeniable and the community showed up in the most beautiful way.

Woven into the backdrop of @tavaresstrachan ‘s stunning exhibition “The Day Tomorrow Began”, we spent an afternoon exploring Black liberation, migration, and ancestral memory through the power of cinema.

We are honored to share the films selected for the Aama Studio: Threads of Legacy Film Salon. 🎞️

Each body of work moved us in its own language. Through memory, restoration or questioning, these filmmakers offered reflections that linger. Tracing lineage and the quiet ways history lives on within us.

We extend our congratulations to the selected artists. We are looking forward to experiencing these films together and entering into conversation led by @mayasymonecade around all that they hold.

Be sure to take a look at the full program schedule in our last post for more information. See you Saturday!

Black History Month is a reminder that our stories are living, breathing, and ongoing. Thanks to @shots_creative 💎 for writing about our film last year. Happy Black History Month and Keep telling your stories year round 🫶🏾 by @threadsoflegacyfilm

Film Search Alert. Aama Studio presents our first curated Threads of Legacy Film Salon co-presented at @lacma. 🤲🏿📽️

Rooted in our belief that storytelling is an archive practice, the salon gathers film, fiber, and memory as living vessels of inheritance. Inspired by explorations of hidden histories and speculative futures, we are shaping a space personal memory forms the woven ground for cinema, and where intergenerational story can move between what has been carried and what is still becoming.

We welcome short film submissions that engage themes of migration, Black liberation, ancestral memory, and identities unfolding between past and possibility. We’re looking for works that understand story as both record and ritual, and that align with our ongoing commitment to holding space for lived experience, folklore, and cultural continuity.

Films should be under 30 minutes. Submissions close in two weeks. Detailed submission instructions and the submission link can be found in our bio. Film selections will be made entirely by the House of Aama team. 🎞️ #houseofaama #aamastudio #lacma #filmsalon #filmfreeway by @threadsoflegacyfilm

My African heart is so full. Thank you @svafilmfest for an amazing time and for honoring @houseofaama @threadsoflegacyfilm with a special mention award! for documentary short.

SVAFF is a sublime festival that centers African storytelling! The thoughtfulness and intention behind this festival is unlike anything I have experienced. Uncle Chike we are in awe of your vision.

SVAFF calls itself a “small” festival. But I prefer the words “Intimate” and “Intentional”. It’s the difference between going to a loud party where it’s harder to connect versus going to friends housewarming where you have conversations with depth and meet life long friends and new collaborators.

Pleasure meeting @imole.ladipo , @queenajima , @eyeamduran , @theleadingmankerwint , @carole131 , @taypopoola , @nia_miranda , @maiamodeste , @zoeymartinson , @portfolio.de.benny , @asimbarobbie , @realomosexy , @plusgold.ea , @aigbijare , @chisomchieke_ , @1210yox , Angela Onuora, Sira Cisse , and so many more!

From picking you up at the airport, providing hotel rooms, having industry knowledge sessions, taking you to the world head quarters of @adobe , the African fashion show and market, to the amazing films, and the memorable awards night, this festival understands the Black and African experience and it’s mission is to connect US, and make us feel SEEN. Thank you Chief Chike, @tejirijarju.art , Victoria, @ashaalessandraimages , Aunti Bisi and the entire SVAFF team!
