I signed up for the race.
I trained for the race.
I ran the race and I finished.
My first ever ultra, and only 2nd race as an adult where I didn’t end up in the ER.

@squamish50 was a dream come true, thank you @coastmtntrail & @garyrobbins for a very long and memorable day. I certainly got my moneys worth being out on course for so long 😅

A year ago I had only been on a handful of runs in the past decade+ since I stopped running. The journey to get here was really f*c👑 hard, but oh so rewarding. The best part of it is becoming a runner again, and all that gives me. Working with a coach and fully committing to the process is how I was able to have fun and not injure myself running all day.
Thank you Bilbo for believing in me 🙏🏼

Very grateful to my mom @angshpeley and dear friend @aliciadschwartz for their time and support crewing 🙏🏼 It was so much fun knowing I would see you along the course and to be able to resupply. You guys really made my day 💜

So stoked for the photos that were taken during the day by pals and course photographers. 📷 (2,18) @srobarts (4,6,7,14,17) @tyholtanphoto 🫶🏻

This is only the beginning!

Yesterday I became a licensed paraglider pilot 🙌🏼🪂✨

It still feels surreal that I run off mountains and fly through the air, especially now that I’m cleared to fly solo and can join HPAC (Hang Gliding and Paragliding Association of Canada).

This is something I have felt called to for a long time but told myself I couldn’t do it and believed it wasn’t meant for me in this lifetime. I was wrong, and now here I am.

It took a lot of hard work and moving through plenty of fears and big emotions but I now feel confident for my current skill level to set out exploring the skies and look forward to continuing to grow and learn for years to come.

In time I will share a video of the entire learning process from the moment I got off the phone with the flight school until my reflections upon graduation.

This has been one of the best experiences of my life so far and I’m so grateful to @freedom_flight_park for the amazing instruction, incredible community hub and all the friends I’ve met along the way. This place is home now 🫶🏼

See you in the skies ✨

PS: that’s my very own wing and I should have the rest of my gear today or tomorrow

I have some hard new to share…

Frank has cancer, and this time it’s not treatable.

He’s happy and comfortable and I’m doing everything I can to make sure he’s lives his best life until the very end.

It’s been a really emotional summer and I will share more about this in the future but I needed to get this off my chest now so his passing won’t be a big surprise.

I’ve been focusing on quality of life for both Frank and I and that has meant posting less videos while focusing on the quality of those as well.

These photos are all from our biggest paddle (sailing ☂️) adventure yet which I am currently editing and will share soon. It’s a really fun video and a memory with Frank I will always cherish.

After that I’ll share more of a life update and talk about our summer behind the scenes and share our adventures that haven’t made it into a video yet as we left the Chilcotin Plateau early July and have had quite the eventful time since.

It’s been a pleasure to share Frank with you all these years and the love back has been incredible. He’s such a special guy and I’m so grateful for every moment together 💜

Today I enjoyed my first run since race day and it felt awesome. Especially for it to become clear that I actually do love running and I wasn’t just training because I liked the idea of being someone who can say they ran a ultra, or because running the @squamish50 had been on my bucket list for 13 years.

I’ve invested a lot of time into running and fitness over the past several months and on the flip side also spent way more time than usual just loafing around with Frank and savouring time together making sure he’s enjoying himself as well, so after today’s run I took him to the lake for a nice afternoon.

Now that my first big race is behind me training will continue as the list of goals has exploded, and with cooler days ahead Frank will have a little more energy for fun times but I’m also ready to get back to creating and sharing videos.

I really do love making video and in all this time away I haven’t stopped feeling creative, I’ve just done it privately. I didn’t plan to take so much time away but in the end I needed it to properly reset so I can come back feeling refreshed and aligned.

I can’t say when to expect me because I don’t know but it’ll be soon and I really look forward to it. First I’m gonna catch up sharing on Patreon and then you’ll see me back on YouTube, but I’ll also be here because it’s so nice to scroll back and see memories of a life well lived.

PS: if anyone is great with van-home electrical systems I need help. I feel like my system is getting worse and the power limitation is getting in the way of powering my computer and being productive 🙏🏼

PPS: I really should be making myself food but I feel so energized from running again and was excited to share some thoughts and snaps. Okay see ya soon 🫶🏻 by @tidelinetoalpine

I have spent the past 9 months of my life dedicated to reclaiming my strength and fitness and becoming a runner once again.

One week from today I will finally line up for the @squamish50 (52km + 2500m) and I am so excited because I believe I am actually capable and trained enough to finish in time.

Long story short I volunteer for the race in 2013 and was signed up to run it in 2014 but due to a broken bone (honestly can’t recall which one) I ended up with a DNS and also completely stopped running. I spent the next few years climbing mountains and thru-hiking before a series and health and life events had me plummeting into the worst shape of my life.

Overweight, exhausted and heartbroken over the fitness I had lost I finally had enough and started the hard journey of building back again.

I took so much patients and perseverance to build up my walking tolerance, speed and endurance over years before attempting my first run. Last summer I went on the occasional easy walk/run and I started to feel like myself again getting back into the alpine even if the hikes took everything out of me.

Finally November came around and I took a long break from the road to focus on fitness. In January I started working with a coach and in April I took my journey back on the road. Since then I’ve let creating videos totally fall by the wayside in favour of savouring time with Frank and training.

I am no longer the person you might think you knew and that is a big part of why it’s taking me so long to return to creating, but don’t worry i will be returning.

I played the long game, put in the work and now I’m reaping the rewards. Whatever happens come race day I’ve already won because I am once again someone who can enjoy spending hours running through the mountains. I am stronger and have more energy than any other time in the past 6 years. I eat whatever my body asks of me while watching the fat be replaced with muscle.

None of this has been easy, but all of it is worth it and the respect for myself I’ve regained is immeasurable. This is only the beginning and I’m not letting the foot off the gas anytime soon.

On this day 8 years ago Frank and I reached the northern terminus of the Pacific Crest Trail and began our 5+ month long southbound journey.

This trip feels like it was just yesterday and yet ages ago. I still don’t have much for words about it, but I felt like sharing this memory as we head off on a new adventure to celebrate another year together.

Soon he will be 14 and I’m so grateful for everyday together, and all the memories we’ve made.

Life with him is the best. by @tidelinetoalpine

After 12+ years on the road I can’t think of anything better about vanlife than all the time I’ve shared with my dog.

Last summer I was certain it would be Franks last and yet here we are continuing to make memories together.

Frank is now nearing 14 years and he’s enjoying a very leisurely existence. He’s a happy guy and still incredibly sharp. Every step is used wisely, except in dreams where he still chases squirrels.

I would be lying if I said I didn’t miss our old life, but because I’ve been able to let go and adapt to his changing needs I still get to enjoy life together. Having that is better than anything else imaginable for as long as it lasts.

There’s a lot of things I often think I should be doing but at the end of the day all I really want to do is look after myself and savour time with Frank. So if you ever wonder what I’m up to chances are I’m either running or laying around with Frank basking in his presence and reflecting on the impact he’s had in my life.

I’ll never regret choosing him.

Thanks for all the love 💜🧡 @franksalutations by @tidelinetoalpine

Introducing the GOAT Method 🐐🐻

I didn’t mean to take 2 months off posting videos, but once we got back on the road I remember how sweet the feeling of freedom was, and quite frankly I didn’t feel like spoiling it with work.

I shot the photos and videos that made me happy and didn’t think about editing or posting.

I focused on running, hiking, working out, yoga, birding and savouring slow days with my precious Frankie.

I returned to paragliding, made new friends, spent time with family and socialized more than I did back home.

I’ve continued to work on Truck, keep Patrons updated and share my activities daily on Strava.

And as the weeks passed my life began to feel normal to me again. Slowly the desire to share stories of our life returned and finally yesterday I posted a new long form video.

It feels good to truly enjoy the freedom and experiences that make me love life on the road so much, and that’s how it will stay.

I don’t live to create content, and I’m not trying to influence you to buy anything. Except maybe buy into the idea that it’s never too late to make the most of life on your terms. I’m a storyteller, and everyday I’m grateful that my stories allow us a simple life of freedom.

Thank you for the warm welcome back 🙏🏼 and we will see ya soon with another story because there’s lots to share!

The spring equinox has arrived and the countdown is on 🙌🏼

Today as I chip away at preparations to return to life on the road I am grateful for an unexpectedly sunny day when heavy rain was on the forecast.

We’ve been staying in the van a lot lately while still making the most of having the amenities of sticks ‘n’ bricks knowing that soon we will return to our nomadic way.

I don’t yet know where I am headed but I trust once our day of departure arrives our bearing will become clear.

It is time to take a deep breath, tighten the laces and find a way to balance all the chores and ‘to-dos’ while prioritizing and savouring every last moment I can here with my favourite trails, yoga studio, climbing gym, lifting gym and precious friends.

March has been flying by and it kinda blows my mind to reflect on how much I’ve experienced and accomplished the past few weeks. I can’t wait to share the journey with you when I can find time to edit videos. For now I hope you enjoy this collection of phone snaps and have a wonderful weekend 🌸🫶🏻🌞

How my running vest fit me today…

vs.

How it fit me Jan 1st of THIS YEAR, just a couple months ago

After working through injuries today was the first day I’ve worn my running vest since Jan 1st, and because of that I noticed how different it fits now.

I struggle a lot with body image, and I’ve never seen changes in a mirror honestly. How my clothes fit has been changing in time, but they also change when I wash them or wear them multiple days so it’s easy to discount the small incremental changes.

A running vest put aside for two month however, doesn’t lie.

I’ve felt my strength increase, flexibility increase, and fitness increase. I watched VO2 max go up, and kilometres pass quicker.

I’ve felt the changes in my body, but couldn’t see that I looked any different until today.

I’ve been working my ass off to improve in all aspects of my physical and mental health. I want to age with strength and vitality, something I know wasn’t getting any easier the more I put off getting serious about it.

Yes I want to loose weight, but more so I want to feel incredible living a active life. Today was a much needed confirmation that the hard work and time invested is truly paying off in all ways.

Quite honestly I have a lot to say on this topic, way more than could fit here. This is a topic with lots of nuance and I have a myriad of reason fuelling my dedication. My fitness journey has been the primary focus of my life since returning home for winter 4 months ago and perhaps in the future I will talk more on the rewards, struggles and all it has entailed to change myself and my life for the better.

Let me know if that interest you and I can make sharing more of a priority.

Thanks for celebrating this small win with me 🫶🏻 by @tidelinetoalpine
