POSTS STORIES REELS

Dinner usually doesn’t get my heart racing before I sit down. This one did. 🔥

Huge thank you to @thesealfuturefoundation and Newport Country Club for an unforgettable night.

I love my job at @veteranink. Building a culture where people bring their own stories, their own style, and the creativity to make something happen—that lights me up. Getting to do cool ass shit like this along the way is one hell of a bonus.

Keep moving toward the things that make you feel this alive.

What lights you up?

There is sooooo much more to this story than I could fit in 17 slides.

After ten years as a Navy SEAL, I went to jail for over seven months. My kids were in foster care. I lost my career, home, and the identity, purpose, and community I had built my life around.

Then I had to get my kids back during a pandemic.

I have to own my actions. I lost control. For a long time, I hated myself for it. I kept thinking: If I hadn’t lost control, maybe my kids would have been in my custody much sooner. Maybe I wouldn’t have lost my career.

There were so many times I felt hopeless. Extreme rage, depression, anxiety, substances, burnout, suicidal thoughts, and unexpected outbursts. There were many nights I ruined my apartment.

I asked for help. That was one of the hardest parts.

I stayed locked in on getting my kids to safety. They are my everything. There was no amount of pain or suffering that could stop me from getting to them.

They are safe with me now. I have full custody. But I struggled after that too. I was so burnt out and still carrying everything that happened. I still am. I’ve come a long way, and I’m still learning.

I had to choose to look for the good. I write down things I’m grateful for every day. Every night at bedtime, I ask my kids what they’re grateful for. I still struggle, and I keep practicing gratitude.

I’m going to share a lot more now. There are years of experiences, details, and people who helped us that I left out or couldn’t fit here. I think sharing could help someone going through their own hardest stretch.

And, selfishly, I think it might help me too.

This is a huge part of how One Foot came to be. There were days I couldn’t see how any of this would work out. I still had to put one foot in front of the other.

What helped you through a hard transition? Share it in the comments.

Touch grass.

Hug your kids.

Call your buddies.

Lift something heavy.

Eat the damn ice cream.

Still tattooing veterans.
Still feeding these tiny freeloaders.
Still refusing to act my age.

No plans to change.

Yesterday CBS LA’s Sports Central stopped by Vans Off the Wall Skatepark in Huntington Beach to talk with Zach Sales, founder of @officialmilitaryskate , and our team ahead of the Nov. 21 Veterans Celebration.

Zach talked about how skating brings active-duty service members and veterans together. We talked about how tattooing gives veterans a way to tell their stories, and how finding a community after getting out can help you find purpose again.

That’s what Nov. 21 is all about 👊

Three veterans. Three stories. Hours in the chair, vet to vet.

Jon Wechter (2/75 Ranger Battalion), Joe Churchville (US Army Sniper) and Tim Speer (Navy SEAL) sat down with fellow veterans who happen to be some of the best tattoo artists in the game: Ink Master Season 3 winner Joey Hamilton of Revolt Tattoo, and Thakuya of Goodlife Tattoo.

Somewhere between the needle and the conversation, the stuff most guys never say out loud finally came out. The deployments. The brothers they lost. The years after they got out.

The ink is just proof the story got told.

🎥 THE STORIES BEHIND THE INK, Episode 1, is streaming now. Link in bio.

100% of donations go directly to the Ink Fund, which pays for veteran tattoo sessions.

Tattoos heal. Stories matter. Veterans inspire.

Let them say you can’t.

Believe in yourself. Face the hard thing, no matter how big or scary it looks. Take a step. Then another.

That’s the culture we’re building with 1’: backing ourselves, backing each other, and doing hard things together.

One foot in front of the other. Let your actions shut them up.

Apparently this is content now. I thought I was just trying to get everyone out of the damn house.

Three kids. One dog. Gym therapy with one of the boys. A calendar that thinks I have three bodies. Meanwhile, my hair has decided it would rather live on my back.

Big shoutout to @bioproteintech. BioPro+ is part of my morning routine. Burns like whiskey. Phoebe supervises like my emotional support bartender.

And @plaud_official has changed how I work. It remembers the shit I was absolutely, definitely going to remember myself.

Part 2 tomorrow. I take the kids to hear Jocko and accidentally give them new ways to tell me I’m doing it wrong.

When your career has taught you to always chase what’s NEXT, how do you learn to be present with the people you love when the next “thing” is completely different?

What habits have helped you succeed professionally but made things harder at home?

I’m not famous, and I don’t consider myself an influencer at all.

But I’ve been overwhelmed for years. Honestly, probably since I got out of the military.

On active duty, I stayed focused on my team and my family. Since stepping into the “normal” world, it feels like my attention is being pulled everywhere at once.

Texts. Emails. Calls. Group chats. Notifications. There’s always something else to answer.

Over 2,000 unread emails. More than 400 unread texts. I’ll open my phone to do one thing, end up scrolling, and wonder where the last ten minutes went. Then I feel guilty about the people I still haven’t answered.

If you’re one of those people, I care. I just don’t always have the bandwidth. And the further behind I get, the harder it feels to catch up.

I want to stay connected and be present for my family without feeling like I owe my attention to a hundred different things at once.

I’m still figuring this out, so I’m asking: What actually works for you? Set times to respond? Muting group chats? Better boundaries with your phone?

Drop something that helps you in the comments. I could use the advice.
