This morning I stopped by @oddcafeph in Salcedo. This elevated sanctuary is a popular creative hub spot tucked on the 7th floor of the Finman Centre building. While there I was able to catch up with Barista Tim. See below for more on our conversation:

Q&A with Barista Tim

1. What inspired you to become a barista?

No one inspired me, it is just a coincidence. After I left my previous job, an old co worker of mine applied for Odd Cafe but eventually changed his mind during the initial interview and he referred me instead. I applied absentmindedly, I got the job and I guess life really does come full circle. I used to hate the smell of coffee, now I make it for a living hehehe…

2. When you are preparing a drink, what do you like the most about the process?

I just like the process of turning simple ingredients into something people can enjoy. It is also rewarding when a simple cup of coffee becomes a way to have a conversation and create a good experience for someone.

3. Can you share any fun facts about yourself ?

My Psychology background helps me understand people better. As a barista, I meet different kinds of customers every day, so being able to listen, communicate, and understand their preferences helps me build better connections with them through coffee. taken in Odd Cafe by @juan21stcentury
