POSTS STORIES REELS

Some really scary things happened in August, but if I had to find a silver lining, I’d say this month has been… enlightening.

Yes, my sister and I went to the bridal market anniversary masquerade as Smaug and the Arkenstone.

One person asked if I was Caraxes, so at least someone got close ☺️

And yes, it was a crazy thing to have Crocodile Rock play as we entered the masquerade. Not only was it my first favorite song as a baby, my sister and I have a great video of us singing that song with our dad at the Elton John concert we all went to a few years ago, and it’s a great core memory. Dad is always sending us signs through music.

This past week, my sister was in town so that we could do a bunch of things that Dad would have wanted to do as it was his birthday on Wednesday. We went to look at a bunch of nerdy collectible stuff at Frank and Son’s, went out to dinner at one of his favorite restaurants, spent some time at my shop doing some work, which he always likes to help out with, went out to breakfast and ate too many pancakes, went to the beach, specifically the pier, one of the last things that he asked to go do, and then we went to a concert. Well, sort of. We specifically went to go see Elijah Wood DJ, but it was at a concert venue and our dad is the reason that we have good music taste. He loved music and concerts. And Elijah Wood, too, I guess, since he was a big LOTR fan, so we got a lot of Dad’s fave things in this week. We also then spent time at my mom‘s house, organizing the garage before swimming in the pool and bbq-ing and then going through his library pulling out books we needed to read. Pretty much all of Dad‘s favorite things.
Oh, and there was that motorcade we saw go by that we found out later was our asshole VP. Interesting week. by @tinuvielly

So that happened.

If you don’t watch stories:

Tonight I went to a show Norbert Leo Butz was putting on, a sort of performance where he spoke about his life while singing songs that shaped him, and it just so happed that, though I assumed we’d be hearing mostly showtunes, the second song of the evening began to play and my eyes widened out of surprise.

Norbert started singing Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters and I lost it. That song was one of my Dad’s favorites. So Norbert sang that while I had tears running down my face, and then he started talking about his own dad. WTF universe?!?!

But it was great because it all felt quite cathartic.

Today I had someone reschedule their appointment last minute so I was able to get out of work early, I found out about this performance last minute, and it all just fell into place.

Sometimes the universe really does make you believe it’s making things happen for you. Or Dad is. If that’s so, thanks, Dad. I got to meet a man tonight that I’ve adored for 20 years. And he sang songs I didn’t think were going to be healing.

He also ended the set with one of my past audition songs so that was super adorable.

I know the world is shit right now but evenings like this give me hope. by @tinuvielly

Forgot to share these last week. LACC was fun. Got to take my sister to a con she actually had fun at since phoenix comic con was a shit show. So I told her I would do the big sister thing and dress her up, giving her an easy closet cosplay, and make sure she had a good time since my friends know how to have fun at cons. She and @rebecca_nar and I had a great time on Friday night and then Saturday I lost count of how many times she said “I should go back and get that sword.”
Oh yeah. And David Tennant was there. Hence why Nik and I are dressed as two of David’s characters.
Got to meet him and get an autograph too.
Our interaction went as follows:

Me: “Hi.”

David: “Hello there.”

I show him the front of the tardis purse and then flip to show the back

Me: “So I had Steven Moffatt sign my TARDIS bag and told him that I was hoping to have other Doctor Who actors and writers sign it, but when be heard that he decided to take up nearly all the space and -“

David: “Wait, who’s that?” as he intently looks at the autograph

Me: “Steven Moffatt. He wrote ‘Hi Amanda, Steven Moffatt’ and said ‘sure, but mine will be the largest, let’s see them sign around that.”

David: “Oh. Well, he failed.”

*Proceeds to sign his name even larger than Steven’s with a beautiful grin on his face*

David: “As he always does.”

Please come to Gally, David. And thanks for adding to the great time, buddies. Family dinner was, as usual, the best. @himantesleatherworksandarmory @tidobobido @hostilexhippie @thestachecommando @rebecca_nar by @tinuvielly

Some photos from summer. Today was the last day of summer, which I’m excited about because I love autumn and hate summer, but even though summer sucks and the worst things have happened this year, I have been lucky enough to have a group of friends that made the showed up for me when I needed them, and made this summer bearable. I love you guys.

Highlights from Wednesday and Thursday at SDCC.
Finally able to share SDCC stuff.
With all the chaos of the last few days, I hadn’t been able to even glance at my comic con photos, so I shall use my first “break” in days where I don’t immediately fall asleep to share these 🤗 by @tinuvielly

Lately, some depressing days have made me focus more on the negative aspects of this past year than the positive.
But when I was looking back on all of the photos from this year, I was honestly surprised at how many happy things happened that I felt like happened a hundred years ago, not this same year.
I started out the year with a torn meniscus, which still hurts some days.
My dad has been in and out of the hospital dozens of times, so worrying about his health has had me in a state of stress and sadness almost the entire year.
2024 was a bad year for the wedding industry, so work has been incredibly stressful trying to keep up with bills.
My dog passed away this summer just a couple weeks before I got into a massive car accident that totaled my favorite car and gave me injuries that I’m still recovering from.
I’ve felt very down lately, but going through photos from 2024 has been a great help in reminding me how many positive things happened:

-One of the most fun Gally’s in a long time
-Going on a road trip to Utah and getting to be the only person at my little sister’s elopement
-Going to the Doctor Who premiere in LA, dancing with friends that I hadn’t seen in years, and meeting Russell T Davies
-Seeing Aaron Tveit in concert with Megan
-My incredibly inspiring trip to NY, making new friends, and getting to style people that I adore
-Going to SDCC with the best people, meeting some internet friends in real life for the first time, meeting a bunch of the cast of TROP, and partying it up a bit harder than a late-thirties-aged person probably should
-Going to LACC and having people compliment a cosplay that I was very self-conscious about
-And closing the year with little things like going to see Wicked with Megan

There were many beautiful happenings this year. It’s just hard to focus on them sometimes.
I’m always the one telling everyone else to find a silver lining, but I struggle with doing so myself, so I’m going to make that a priority in 2025.
Happy New Year, everyone.
And thanks to everyone who attributed to my good days this year. I love you. by @tinuvielly
