Installed straight pipe💨触媒以降直管にしました🤣でもバルブ付きで閉じた時は純正より静かです！最高❤️

Takashi’s Porsche 993 RSR Tribute in Tokyo

Takashi and his Porsche 911 993

An afternoon with the man behind a lot of Tokyo’s car culture and his 993 RSR Tribute.

Tokyo car culture has become something of a global cultural pillar for anything automotive🗼

From underground car meets to A-lister music videos and corporate advertising, it’s all been done. But what you don’t see are the few people who helped turn present-day Japanese car culture into what it is now. One of those people is Takashi-san (@tk.m8181) and this is his Porsche 993 RSR tribute car.

Takashi comes from a much more Japanese-oriented car background and is well known for his Nissan Skyline R34 GT-T. But as Porsche culture has grown so rapidly in Tokyo, he is now far more often seen in his 993. However, Porsche is no new trend for Takashi: “The 911 has been one of my dream cars since I was a kid. Even amongst all the generations, the 993 has always been my choice. It was when Tamiya released their GT2 model in 2002 that I really fell in love with the iconic style.”

Takashi is the brains behind events like the Tokyo Underground Meet, and if you haven’t heard of it, you’ve almost certainly seen it. Events like these are curated by Takashi to share Tokyo car culture with the world, and year on year the crowds grow exponentially to get a look at it for themselves. But parking isn’t all Takashi has on the cards for his 993. In a nod to his roots, he’s “planning to install an LSD - my dream is to drift the car someday.”

When I asked Takashi how he sees present-day Porsche culture in Japan, he noted, “Recently, a lot more young enthusiasts have started driving air-cooled Porsches, and I think that’s a really positive trend. Japan has a unique Porsche culture where many different styles blend together, creating a truly interesting community.” And there’s no denying it: from the man who sees it all, no two 993s will look the same at any given Tokyo gathering.

I still can't believe this meet at Tokyo Tower happened 🗼

Where does @underground_tokyo_meet go from here?

Underground Tokyo Meet, the real OG of “Tokyo Car Week” started by @tk.m8181 and friends, was back for another one this Auto Salon!

We were sent a location that was pretty confusing at first. But when we arrived, what an absolutely stunning location for a meet! Underneath the lights of Tokyo Tower, having a car meet here almost felt surreal!

It’s become one of the staples of Japanese car culture, and we were there to witness the start of the “Tokyo Car Week” by @tk.m8181

A secret underground car show in Tokyo.
Under Tokyo Tower.
Still feels unreal.

Without a doubt my highlight of Tokyo car week. I've always dreamed of shooting at Tokyo Tower 🗼. I've been up to the top many times, and I always saw the bus parking right below and wondered what it would be like to use the lot to shoot cars.
