Constant readers, you know I was SPRINTING to do this Stephen King challenge as soon as I first saw it!! 🏃‍♀️ Have you read any King books? Which is your favorite? 📚

Shoutout to @the_impossible_library, @readbookswithkclorraine and @mycozymnbooks for inspiring this post!! 🫶🏻 It was so much fun!

October recap!! 🫶🏻 I read 22 books this month, went on a pilgrimage to the Overlook, listened to way too much Halloween music, and we finished up the major renovations in our house!! What an incredible month that absolutely flew by! 🦇

And now….it’s Christmas time 😏

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!! 🎃🖤👻🦇🍫Here’s what some of my favorite costumes from Halloweens past are reading today! What’s been your favorite read this spooky season?

This year’s costume is none other than MOTHMAN! Honestly this is one of my favorites, it’s sooo comfy and cute! It’s my first Halloween giving out candy and I’m so excited to see some adorable trick or treaters at my door 🥰🍭 Whatever your plans are, stay safe tonight and have a great time!!

With love and one final BOO, Ruby 💫 by @to.other.worlds

What’s a book that sucked you in like a mothman to a lamp? 🔥 Also, thank you Mr To Other Worlds for always being a willing participant in my shenanigans 🤭

Hot people read!! Hot people vote!! Hot people know that the biggest fall essential is voting!! 🫶🏻 I loved @carolineestout fall love triangle post, so I wanted to do a bookish version and encourage you to GO VOTE ON OR BEFORE NOVEMBER 3RD!!!

Also, I’m inspired by and in awe of @jocsbookshelf recent post!! If we can care so much about fictional worlds and politics, we can (and MUST) care about the real ones as well. Your favorite characters, the ones who are probably battling evil forces and fighting corrupt governments? Yeah, they’d want you to vote.

So VOTE!!! If not for you, then for your friends and neighbors who will be deeply affected by these elections, and for all of the people who fought SO hard to secure your right to make your voice heard!!

With love and an I Voted sticker now on my laptop, Ruby 💫

To the little girl who always had her nose in a book, and to the teenager who found a piece of herself in King, we did it (and you were never too much) 🥹🫶🏻 💌

Good for her books and the monstrous feminine 🖤 What does horror reveal about feminine desires? Can we reclaim unconscious, patriarchal anxieties? What do you think, and what female-centered horror books are on your tbr?

One of my favorite classes in grad school was Horror, Abjection, and the Monstrous Feminine. It taught me so much about the beauty of the genre and how it functions psychologically and societally. I know this post is both longer than normal, and simultaneously strips down a lot of Creed’s argument in the interest of brevity. I just needed to make this post about a trend in the horror genre I’ve noticed recently. I hope you enjoy it, and I hope to have some fun discussions in the comments 🤓

Your Halloween monster, your book basket!! 🧟 What’s your favorite creature to read about??

I did one of these a few weeks ago about horror subgenres, but I needed to do one for all my favorite spooky monsters too! 🖤

Did someone say short horror book recommendations that you can definitely fit in before Halloween? 🎃🖤 What’s a fun-sized horror book that you would put in your candy cauldron? 🍫

October has flown by SO fast, and I haven’t gotten to do nearly the amount of Halloween festivities I wanted. Alas, there’s always next year! I’m going to try to fit in as many short books as I can before my grand plan…rereading The Shining on Halloween!!
