I'm still trying to learn how to keep living without you. I've spent most days just trying to get through the next sunset. I'm still learning who I am and who I can be without you. I never considered that before. I never thought I'd have to. Who am I without the person I dedicated so much of myself to? by @toby.powers23

September is pediatric cancer awareness month. 🎗 Did you know that the @nationalcancerinstitute (our federally funded government cancer research organization) allots only 3.8% of it's annual budget to ALL 100+ types of pediatric cancers? That leaves kids to fight cancer with drugs that were approved for use as far back as the 1940s. That also many some kids to fight without ever being cured. Over 1,800 children die of cancer in the United States every year. They don't get national news coverage. They don't get protesters marching by the thousands in the streets. They don't get Netflix documentaries. They don't get the chance to make their presence known to the world on their own because some of them are born with it. Some of them have their voices taken from them. DIPG contributes about 300 children to cancer's total annual death toll. But before that, it robs them. First, their balance. Then, their vision. Next, their coordination. Already, they're struggling so hard to be a kid and play. But DIPG is not done robbing them yet. They start to weaken. They start needing their wheelchair more and more until in the blink of an eye, they're a full time user. The child who was running and jumping and laughing and singing just a couple MONTHS ago is now a full time wheelchair user who struggles with their cognitive abilities. The DIPG treatment they receive makes their appearance change so much, and because DIPG usually develops between ages 5-10, the child notices too. In fact, they still are very aware. Because that's the other horror of DIPG. The body fails, but the awareness remains. Their mind hardly changes, but their body takes the greatest hit. September is pediatric cancer awareness month. Please join us as we fight for a cure! Fight for #MoreThan4 !🎗 #DIPG #faithoverfear #FightLikeAKid #BrainCancer by @toby.powers23
⚠️ Some of this photos and topics discussed may be sensitive to some viewers. These pictures do NOT show a dead animal, but one that is dying, so this is your warning⚠️ This is the reality of animal rescue 💔 Soleil 🤍 French for the sun ☀️ I made a promise to him after we were denied care at the ER vet last night; "die in the night, I'll name you after the moon🌕, but survive until morning and I'll name you after the sun🌝." A neighbor found this little guy last night around 10:30-11pm near our street motionless in the road. If she hadn't of found him, he would have died there all alone never knowing love. But she scooped him up, fleas and all, and brought him to our attention where he was cared for all night. We tried to get him to a vet right away but the ER was overburdened with patients. Then we bought him wet kitten food so he could eat, and to our surprise, he actually did eat! He bit my mom as she was putting him in the bigger carrier, but I think he was just in pain 😢 He was skin and bone, and his eyes were gunky with illness. He barely had the strength to move, but you see the picture of him holding himself up🥹 He was a fighter 💪 I stayed up with him all night. I cleaned his face with a dampened baby wipe and paint brush. I played him soothing songs. I sang for him. I pet him. I loved him. I never left his side. Someone was always with him. When he was still fighting in the morning, I knew he had gifted me the chance to call him Soleil. I had my appointment today and mom and my sister gave him a bath while I was away. He knew bath time. He knew warm, running water and cleansing soap. He was in more horrific shape than we thought with the presence of maggots. But mom says he looked happy in the bath. We took him in to the vet after calling to make sure they had space today. They took him back this time, and began caring for him however they could. IV fluids and a warming blanket. I had to make several impossible decisions in a matter of a couple hours. First one: Do you want to sign a "DO NOT RESUSCITATE" order? For a kitten so small and young he weighs maybe a pound. We went to the Warren Dunes at Lake Michigan last week and climbed a 260ft sand dune! 🤯😵‍💫 Pretty proud of this little 4 year old who can hike up a mountain of sand with me with little complaint. The Warren Dunes are my favorite beach to come to. I've been to SoCal, Florida, Hawai'i... but no beach brings me back to our baby girl like this one because it was the first one I visited after she died and I saw her in the sky over the water. 😇🩷🩵 #BugJuice #LakeMichigan #SandDunes #Brothers #HirschprungsDisease by @toby.powers23
July 2, we went swimming at the falls with M and J after eating lunch on the bench there. Some boys showed up with fishing gear while we were swimming, so I clipped you to your leash that was tied to a branch on land and told them we were swimming there. The boys didn't leave. They asked me if you're friendly, I did not affirmate that you are. The boys didn't leave, to our annoyance. So we left instead, not wanting a fish hook to the back. I kept my eyes on you the whole time the boys were there. We let J play at the park for a few minutes and saw the same boys. You were being held on a leash far away. No words or anything exchanged with the boys. We got home and started a fire for s'mores after we put you inside. Then a police officer showed up. He told us you bit those kids. There's pictures of their wounds, he said. They took pictures of you. They took pictures of M's car. They gave our descriptions. I don't believe it. I watched you the whole time we were there. I put you on your leash and told them you aren't friendly. They said nothing at all to us about you doing anything to them. We heard nothing, no signs of anyone getting hurt. We were at the park and saw them too, so why didn't they say anything then either? Daniel is a dog, but Daniel is my ESA for my C-PTSD, mood disorders, and autism and he's also my son. He's all I have. And right now he's sitting in a kennel at Animal Control for 10 days because some kids allegedly got bit by him. I tied him up. He was on a 6 foot leash. These kids allegedly couldn't stay 6 feet away from my dog who I said wasn't friendly. Kids who didn't say a word or make any kind of indication that it was my dog that bit them to us while we were there OR after they saw us after we left. They all just claim it was the dog at DayDream Falls. To Animal Control, Daniel is at fault. (Continued in next slide caption) (Continued) I think it's easy to blame an animal. I think it's easy to hear your kids say a big bad dog came up and attacked them and form an opinion. I think it's easy to send your kids out away from home and sight unaccompanied to get a few hours for yourself. I was watching my kid. Were you watching you by @toby.powers23
Today, Soara should be turning 7 years old. She died in 2020 at 10 months old, just 10 days shy of 11 months, or 10 days+ 1 month shy of her 1st birthday after a battle as a 1 in millions baby with Total Colonic Hirschprung's Disease. Forgive my use of AI. I like it just as much as the average person. It's the only way I could get an idea of what she might look like now💔 #happybirthday #7 #hirschprungsdisease #totalcolonichirschsprungsdisease #raredisease by @toby.powers23

March is Self Injury Awareness Month🧡 My story with self harm starts all the way back at just 12 years old when I first experimented with it around the same time I was diagnosed with depression and anxiety disorder. A notable stressor at the time was the divorce of my parents. . I was 14 and a freshman in high school when I first became addicted to c*tting. I remember entering highschool with zero friends and believing something must've been wrong with me because of so, but even after I gained friends, I dealt with my stressors (unfortunately I've had a lot even as a teen) with self injury. . I had many different reasons why I would c*t, but the overall reason was emotional dysregulation. When I was 15, I was diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) and an "unspecified" mood disorder I would come to find out at age 20 to be bipolar disorder type 2 (BP2.) Individuals affected by these disorders have a smaller emotional regulatory system in the brain than neurotypicals, so we often seek extreme measures to ease emotional pain. . It was never about "attention" unlike the many people who blanket the justification of their prejudice for self harm like to claim. For me, it was how c*tting meant my brain would fill with so much adrenaline before and during I did it that it gave a sense of euphoria physically and mentally. It was about seeing myself as injured as I could inflict upon myself. It was about taking care of my own wounds out of a sense of control. It was so much more than attention for me, in fact, I hated people seeing my cuts because it meant they'd try to stop me from inflicting more. I was hospitalized many times, and even went to California for rehab. . A lot of people are under the assumption that self harm is not a serious addiction, but for me, it was. I dealt with it for about 6 years before reaching recovery milestones like 3 months clean, 6 months clean...to the point I stopped tracking my progress. Not out of shame or lack of care, but because I stopped needing to look back on my clean count with the thought "don't make it start all over again." This is your HEADS UP! to donate blood!🩸 We are currently experiencing a NATIONAL BLOOD SHORTAGE in the States and your neighbors need your donation to save their lives! Donors receive awesome benefits from donating! When I went with my mom yesterday, we were treated to free t-shirts, gift cards, snacks and drinks, and even some yummy soups! Blood donations take as little as 5 minutes. 5 minutes of your time can save up to 3 people's lives. When I get scared of the needle, I remind myself how fortunate I am to have the choice of receiving a poke, because the people who need my donation do no get that choice. The phlebotomists that work for the Red Cross have always been fantastic for me and make the process a breeze! Have you scheduled your blood donation?❤️ #Blood #blooddonor #donate #donateblood #savelives by @toby.powers23
