Four years ago, we opened our doors for the first time at 669 Centre St. We hired a team of fresh faces, welcomed in strangers, and joined a big-hearted community of neighbors who didn’t know who we were yet. We set out to be a home away from home, offering a place to gather and share a comforting meal. You have made that dream come to life because somewhere along the way, we all became family. There’s the Tonino we share with you at dinner, glowing with warm candlelight, clinking glasses, and decadent bites that “make your face move”. You carry in your celebrations and your bad weeks, your first dates and your long overdue catch-ups. You leave a little of yourselves in every seat, and it becomes part of our forever dining room. And that’s what a restaurant really is. A cozy room full of life, built around good food and the beautiful people we share it with. And behind that dining room is a crew who show up early, stay late, and still ask what more they can do. The Tonino that lives in shared laughs over family meal, pep talks in the walk-in, and hugs at the end of every double that say what we’re too tired to say. We don’t take any moments for granted in the adventure of it all. There were nights we weren’t sure we’d make it to close, and nights we never wanted to end. Every high and every low, we got through together. We set out to nourish our beloved guests in more than one way, and we always knew it started with our team. To our staff, past and present, you built the trust, the care, and the laughter that have raised Lil Tony. We couldn’t be more grateful or proud. To @chefbroth and @jessica_gooch, thank you for leading something worth getting this sentimental over. Grazie mille Tonino fam. There are people who keep a restaurant running, and people who make it feel like home. Ken is the second, always has been. Today, Ken clocked out for the last time, off to enjoy a very well-earned retirement. We’re so happy for him, but we’re also selfishly heartbroken because we’ve all been in denial that this day would come. Here’s the thing about Ken: fate didn’t just bring him to Tonino, it brought him back. Back in 1979, Ken owned Blackbird Kitchen at 669 Centre St., the very same space Tonino is in now! So when he joined our opening team in October 2022, it wasn’t a brand new chapter. It was Ken coming home to bring new life to the same walls he once filled with his own. For the last four years, Ken has been our unwavering, steady calm amid the chaos. He was almost always the first through our back door every morning, bringing in the sunshine with him. Wherever Ken goes, joy follows. His warm smile, his always-ready-to-help hands, his cheerful “Good morning!” that he actually meant. And let’s not forget, Ken is a total badass!!! An old soul with the electric energy of someone half his age, and the heart of someone who’s simply lived a full life and decided to share it with the rest of us. We joke that Ken’s love is the secret ingredient in our pizzas and tiramisus, but it’s the damn truth. THE original Dough Boy!!! Now it’s time for Dough Boy Ken to keep living his beautifully full life outside our dining room walls; saying yes to every ocean dunk, pond skate, sunrise tai chi meditation, Midway Cafe jam night, and continuing to collect more passport stamps than any of us can dream of. But don’t worry..we’ll still get to squeeze Ken when he pops in for family meals and team hangs (because we’ll never be ready to fully let him go), but boy will we miss his irreplaceable magic on the daily. Grazie mille Ken for coming home to 669 Centre St. once again and for staying long enough to become such a beloved part of our famiglia. We absolutely adore you beyond words and can’t wait for you to keep lighting up the world with your one-of-a-kind spark! Your cozy corner nook table will always be here, eagerly awaiting your next Tonino bite and team toast🥂😌🫶🏼 by @tonino_jp
