Life getting in the way, so not much painting going on. However, here's a request from a short while ago for a small picture of the very cute Barney.

A very interesting exercise at a workshop with the very talented @tomwinterart .
Using a glazing medium to apply thin layers of paint, relying on the white of the canvas to retain the highlights. I tried very hard to not use any white but gave in a little towards the end.
The result seems to make the colours more vivid than I'm used to, so really interesting.
This was the result after circa 5hrs in the class and a few hours afterwards. It's not finished but I'm leaving it here.

Another quick 2hr study, I'm finding it useful to do these, helps me loosen up.
This time it's from a photo I took of this man on his phone on the Tokyo subway at the end of last year.

Another quick painting at the fab #jamartclubportraitsessions Monday nights.
2 hrs. The likeness was pretty good but the tones are a bit chalky, a common failing!

2hrs practice, went pretty well this time, started with a pencil drawing which was more accurate so the painting went well.
