A passionate advocate for a more diverse, inclusive and engaging future for stained glass, Gregory is also determined to undermine the outdated expectations and connotations of her beloved craft. Gregory states: “I believe stained glass needs to be where people don’t expect it. It needs to say things people don’t expect it to say. It needs to ask questions. It needs to be in architecture/ outside of architecture. It needs to be thought provoking and collaborative.”

From his 1999 Millennium Window for St. Mary’s, Masham, to his 2022 Ukrainian Canadian Window for St. James, Paddington, and beyond, the UK’s Glenn Carter has proven again and again the emotional power of light and glass. In his body of work commissioned for both religious and domestic buildings and exhibitions, strong personal narrative and symbolism are signature elements.

This window depicts the night sky and the lost and returning bomber crews of 166 Sqaudron based at Kirmington, Lincolnshire, during WWll this is now the site of Humberside Airport. The Lancaster bombers depicted in this window are both visible and semi visible, some are depicted as crosses. The message is stark and deeply poignant.

You have seen Kevin cut out many circles before using his trusty @toyosupercutters TAP Circle Cutter. Awhile ago a comment was made, asking if he could use opaque glass one time. A Fern Green Opal Circle was required for something, so this was his time to shine! He did a test score to confirm the exact size, then locked the suction cup base down on the center of the sheet, then did a test spin of the Circle Cutter, to make sure the bar did not strike anything on the table. Starting with his left had holding the top of the base and the bar at a 10 Oclock position, he reached under his left arm with his right hand, with no downward pressure, and pulled the bar with the Cutter head counterclockwise towards himself. When the bar passed under his left arm at about an 8 Oclock positon, then he began to apply some downward pressure. He spun the bar all the way around, back to the starting position and stopped there. He removed the suction cup, then made a pair of black Sharpie marks at four points on the scored Circle. If the opaque glass is light enough, you can see those black marks when you hold the glass up to the light. In this case he could not, so had to improvise and put his finger on the scored line, then match up with his other hand on the other side, place the glass score side down, then being pressing down on the glass. The scored line began to run, he kept pushing down until he saw it go all the way around. Break lines were scored in a pinwheel style on the front, and the excess glass was broken away cleanly. Easy Peasy Lemon Squeezy!
