The Thing in the Kennel

Watercolors (traditional, inks and markers) on a A3 mixed-media paper

A tribute to one of my favorite scenes from the 1982 classic. Because the movie keeps the mutating creature in the shadows during this moment, I had some fun "filling in the blanks" to imagine what it looks like when it begins to assimilate the pack.

Since my camera changes the colors (see last pictures), I spent some time scanning it in sections and stitching it together digitally to match the real-life colors more closely.

Which version do you prefer—the stitched, color-corrected scan, or the photo? Let me know in the comments!

It always bothered me how the background in this one came out (see last pic for comparison), so I decided to give it a few layers of watercolor inks last night (plus a few tiny details). I could have added even more, but It seemed the paper was at its limit.

💜🩵💙 I am so much happier with it now. The mood is now closer to what I had in mind 💜🩵💙

Iä! Iä! Cthulhu fhtagn!! 🐙🐙

Last page in my A5 sketchbook and I wanted to do something 'cool' with it! 😉

I do need to draw more Mythos creatures...

---

----

My deepest condolences and support to the victims, families, and all those affected by the serious AVE train accident that occurred yesterday near Toledo.

I drew this small ribbon directly on the train ticket for the trip along that exact same route that I was scheduled to take for work in two weeks.

Leucistic Wereraven

#Weretober 22nd 2026

Mixed media on A3 paper

Bit early but I had to choose just one to do this week and decided on the wereraven.

Unlike with albinism, leucism results in partial loss of pigmentation in an animal such as causing white, pale, or patchy coloration of the skin, hair, feathers, scales, or cuticles. In birds, the eyes, beak and legs are still of the normal colour.

I intended to make this one far more white but... It was complicated to add the shadows that way so I ended up with this middle ground.

GOAT DEMON

#Weretober 16th 2026

Watercolor and watercolor ink on an A3 mixed media paper

When I saw that the prompt for today was a goat demon, I realized that, despite my love for horror, dark fantasy, and related topics, I had never tried to do that very typical concept, so I wanted to dedicate it some more time.

But now I feel like I need to take a break for a few days.

#Weretober 15th 2026 - Binturong

Watercolor and Tinted graphite on an A4 mixed media paper

Had to quickly put together this one after work last night (and posting it while commuting to work now) I LOVE BINTURONGS, they are so fluffy. Plus, apparently they smell like popcorn?

Can you tell this one is a woman? I only slightly suggested it by giving her a little bit of darker hair in the back, plus suggesting the shape of something on the chest area

#Weretober 14th 2026 - Komodo Dragon

Watercolor markers on an A4 mixed media paper

A quick one again, work and more don't let me dedicate all the time I normally would to these!! Also, I am feeling a bit sick, I think

#Weretober 12th 2026 - Rhinoceros Beetle

Watercolor and watercolor markers on an A4 mixed media paper

A quick, super fun dive into insectoid were-creature design! It was awesome breaking out of the typical mammal format to build a multi-limbed, heavily armored walking fortress.

(It went by so fast I even forgot to scan the line art before coloring, as I usually do!)

What do you think of insectoid were-creatures?

#Weretober 11th 2026 - Lunar Arctodus

Watercolors and Tinted graphite on an A4 mixed media paper

The Arctodus simus (Short-faced Bear) dominated the Pleistocene epoch as a looming titan. Paleontologists still debate whether it was a relentless apex predator or an overwhelming 'hyper-scavenger' that bullied other carnivores off their kills.

Either way, imagine ancient hunter-gatherers looking across a frozen ridge on a clear night, catching sight of an unnaturally massive bipedal shadow rising into the moonlight, unmoving, and looking down on them.

What do you think: predator, scavenger, or ancient terror?

#Weretober 9th 2026 - Dodo

Tinted graphite on an A4 mixed media paper

So I thought, Dodos were cute and round, right? Then I looked at actual pictures of Dodos, Ooops, I over did it.

I will have to skip tomorrow's prompt but I am looking forward to Sunday's!

#Weretober 8th 2026 - Siamese Hell Liger

Since Orctober has been cancelled this year, I decided to look for something else to do and @tfiddlerart's Weretober is a perfect one to practice some creatures even if I am a bit late to the challenge.

Although, I don't think I'll be able to do it daily (even if I go for a simpler coloring like with this one here).
