What does trash have to do with PFAS? When we talk about waste, we usually think about what ends up in the trash can. But what about the pollution created before a product ever reaches us? Or the chemicals that can stick around long after that product is gone? In Episode 2, We’re talking about PFAS aka “forever chemicals,” endocrine-disrupting chemicals, consumer products, and invisible waste. If you’re a UT Austin student, an Austin resident, or just someone who has ever wondered what actually happens to the products we use and throw away, this one is for you.

And a very real apology for my cold voice in this Reel. 😂

Anyone else out there just always thinking about waste, trash, overconsumption what we can do about all of the waste that we are generating on this planet. This week I’ve really started to have this idea that waste is just a symptom and that often those of us working in waste research and communication. It’s so much on like sorting correctly and did you use the right bin different plastics but I’m wondering if what if we shift and start addressing the culture that is this disease I call it maybe that’s dramatic of fast food fast fashion this fast life and that we’re so easily sold. This idea that more in our brands to find who we are and that life looks so good and so happy and I think it’s harder to show the minimalist the using old things life, and making people fall in love with that as much as this Chase for more this is probably a lot, but what are your thoughts? This was also voice to text as my baby is sleeping and excuse any typos or or not. 😊 #consumereducation #austinblogger #trash #wastemanagement #ut by @trashedpod

Lazy sustainability needs some credit. I do so many things not because I am all high and mighty and perfect, but because I am too busy to overwhelmed and just downright lazy and that is often the sustainable option, not putting my bags in produce at the grocery store, even though the checkout person gives me dirty looks looking on marketplace for large items versus having to deal with cutting up the packaging and figuring out what to do with all the foam and trying to eat every random little bit in my fridge because I hate going to the grocery store or even having to put in a curbside order this is not sacrificial is because it makes my life easier. This is just some of the reflections that we talk about on trashed as Mom’s humans just trying to do our best in the world.#atxmomblogger #austinmom #sustainable #utaustin #underconsumption by @trashedpod

Sequins are a multi-billion-dollar industry. Another connection to how we use petroleum and that it’s discarded to sit in landfills for “eternity”. But even when an alternative exists the replacement in industry often isn’t that simple. This is one topic we explored on this season of trash(ed). Where do you think there’s a breakdown between innovation and fashion industry adoption. #slowfashion #utaustin #austinblogger #fashionrevolution #sustainablefashion by @trashedpod

Saws, part decorations, leaf blowers, kids toys and books. These are some of the most shared resources in my friend group. Being willing to share not only saves your friend group money as a whole but it also reduces the demand on resources to create enough of rarely used items. I also think this is one of the things that makes a friend group feel like a true community. With so much going on we need supportive friends and this really empowers. #utaustin #austinmom #sustainabilty #momlife #austinthrift by @trashedpod

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ would swap again! We are thinking of planning another swap to gear up for holiday season. Swapping fabric, yarn, etc ALSO fall decor and gift wrap. I hate how focused holidays can be on overconsumption so I 💕💕💕 the idea of starting the holidays off in community and being intentional to reduce our impact but still have big wonderful celebrations. by @trashedpod

I guess I was being lazy. Usually I iron the tissue paper for reuse but on this day I wanted to discard it. And turns out it’s not recyclable so I ironed it and now it will go back and forth in the friend group. But I learned you can recycle paper cartons. I know recycling is complex and we need more corporate accountability but I also refuse to not try to reduce and correctly sort my waste. Consumption and disposal is nuanced and that’s a lot of what we talk about in trash(ed). Episode 1 now available. #austinmom #atxmomblogger #cityofaustin #austin #trashed by @trashedpod

We’re calling it: Wish Thrifting.

The act of donating something while hoping it finds a second life.

It’s just one of the ideas we explore on Trash(ed).

In Episode 1, we take a deep dive into our own closets, thrift stores, and fashion habits, and talk with Dr. Jessica Ciarla, a researcher innovating more sustainable materials for the fashion industry.

🎙️ If you’ve ever wondered what happens after you donate your clothes—or why we buy so much in the first place—this episode is for you.

Listen wherever you get your podcasts. ♻️

Are you looking for a community in Austin that’s asking big questions about waste—without expecting perfection?

So are we.

We’re creating a space to explore what it really means to reduce waste in a world built around consumption. We talk about overconsumption, advertising, and the everyday tradeoffs that come with trying to live more sustainably.

Because sometimes joy looks like a cute outfit. Sometimes it’s takeout after a long day. And sometimes it’s choosing the more sustainable option when you can. Living through an environmental crisis is nuanced, and we think those conversations deserve honesty.

As two moms, we’re also navigating what sustainability looks like alongside motherhood, work, and real life.

Trashed(ed) is a community. We go beyond the talking with researchers, practitioners and people community about the waste challenges we face today and the solutions that could shape a less wasteful future.

If you’re in Austin (or just trash-curious), we’d love to have you here. ♻️🦝 #utaustin #sustainabilty #momlife #austinmom #austintx by @trashedpod
