What does trash have to do with PFAS? When we talk about waste, we usually think about what ends up in the trash can. But what about the pollution created before a product ever reaches us? Or the chemicals that can stick around long after that product is gone? In Episode 2, We’re talking about PFAS aka “forever chemicals,” endocrine-disrupting chemicals, consumer products, and invisible waste. If you’re a UT Austin student, an Austin resident, or just someone who has ever wondered what actually happens to the products we use and throw away, this one is for you.

And a very real apology for my cold voice in this Reel. 😂

What changed my beauty routine was when I realized that I was doing so many steps, I had so many products but I hadn’t really taken the time to think about they why behind the products. I realized that I was operating out of fear and a pressure that these products were wellness, if I used them they were healthy and good. But then a few paradigms shifted 1) I started a phd program in advertising and realized how over the past 80 years these messages have changed what’s expected. I just started doing these things at puberty and just never stopped to think about it until 35. 2) I realized that I wasn’t letting Jesus into my getting ready routine and that I needed his healing for some body issues that crept up. Just gradually and were taking root. Skin sabbath is a journey to set a boundary with big beauty and let Jesus wash in. #Christianwomen #momlife #beautystandards #austinmom #bodyimagecoach by @trashwyfe

Christian women, beauty and aging. We often don’t talk about beauty in church but I had this realization this morning that aging isn’t a design flaw it’s god design. That really changed how I started to see the heya hair and wrinkles that are creeping insecurity at 36 and also going to him to reassure me of my identity before a product. #christianwomen #christianbeauty #faith #bodyimage #aging by @trashwyfe

I feel like I missed something with the point of using emojis to cover kids faces on social media as a mom. Someone please tell me if I am misunderstanding the objective.? #momlife #atxmomblogger #austinmom #austinmomsblog #christianmom by @trashwyfe

Anyone else out there just always thinking about waste, trash, overconsumption what we can do about all of the waste that we are generating on this planet. This week I’ve really started to have this idea that waste is just a symptom and that often those of us working in waste research and communication. It’s so much on like sorting correctly and did you use the right bin different plastics but I’m wondering if what if we shift and start addressing the culture that is this disease I call it maybe that’s dramatic of fast food fast fashion this fast life and that we’re so easily sold. This idea that more in our brands to find who we are and that life looks so good and so happy and I think it’s harder to show the minimalist the using old things life, and making people fall in love with that as much as this Chase for more this is probably a lot, but what are your thoughts? This was also voice to text as my baby is sleeping and excuse any typos or or not. 😊 #consumereducation #austinblogger #trash #wastemanagement #ut by @trashwyfe

Lazy sustainability needs some credit. I do so many things not because I am all high and mighty and perfect, but because I am too busy to overwhelmed and just downright lazy and that is often the sustainable option, not putting my bags in produce at the grocery store, even though the checkout person gives me dirty looks looking on marketplace for large items versus having to deal with cutting up the packaging and figuring out what to do with all the foam and trying to eat every random little bit in my fridge because I hate going to the grocery store or even having to put in a curbside order this is not sacrificial is because it makes my life easier. This is just some of the reflections that we talk about on trashed as Mom’s humans just trying to do our best in the world.#atxmomblogger #austinmom #sustainable #utaustin #underconsumption by @trashwyfe

Sequins are a multi-billion-dollar industry. Another connection to how we use petroleum and that it’s discarded to sit in landfills for “eternity”. But even when an alternative exists the replacement in industry often isn’t that simple. This is one topic we explored on this season of trash(ed). Where do you think there’s a breakdown between innovation and fashion industry adoption. #slowfashion #utaustin #austinblogger #fashionrevolution #sustainablefashion by @trashwyfe

What I just emailed about big bend #savebigbend #austinmom #bigbend #Marfa #christianmom Dear Governor Abbott,
I am writing as a Texan deeply concerned by the border infrastructure now threatening the Big Bend region, including Big Bend National Park and Big Bend Ranch State Park.
Protecting our border should not require permanently damaging one of Texas’s greatest natural treasures, particularly when Republican sheriffs, local officials, ranchers, landowners, conservationists, and Texans across the political spectrum have questioned whether physical barriers are necessary or effective in this terrain.
I am especially troubled that DHS has invoked Section 102(c) of IIRIRA to waive numerous environmental and historic-preservation protections that would ordinarily apply to a project of this magnitude.
Big Bend belongs to future generations of Texans. Texas should be leading the effort to protect it.
I respectfully ask: What is your administration doing to oppose unnecessary physical barriers, roads, and associated construction in the Big Bend parks and to advocate for less destructive border-security alternatives such as surveillance technology?
I urge you to publicly defend Big Bend and ask the federal government to halt destructive construction by @trashwyfe

I still wear makeup when I want to, but 90% of my days are makeup free. It was gradual that I started to love my appearance without makeup more and feel more like I was wearing a costume fully “madeup” #slowbeauty #momlife #makeupfree #aging #christianwomen by @trashwyfe

I’ve been a Christian for about 15 years but I’ve only truly loved my appearance for 5. I read all the scriptures about how God called me beloved, that I was made in his image, but then media and advertising I would see the ads and want to be something else and feel unsatisfied in who I was. By practicing a weekly skin sabbath it’s helped me put a boundary on an industry that profits ok distractions and selling hope of love. #christianmom #atxmomblogger #austinmom #christianwomen #slowbeauty by @trashwyfe

The thought of disappointing him far outweighs any temporary discomfort of taking action. But I also know finding time to be active is hard. I see you I’m a mom, a wife. a full time employee, a PhD student, but it’s also my job to ensure he has the most viable future. So I found time by skipping my beauty routine once a week. #christianmom #momlife #austinmom #activism #savebigbend by @trashwyfe

Have you heard? Too often we see the mass amounts of clothes in landfills and unloaded on other countries. We see the plastic pollution. We struggle to think about how we can change consumer habits for the world! So today it’s a little celebration of our changing purchase patterns changing an industry that has long harmed people and the planet in the name of love. I’m proud to have a #vintagejewelry wedding ring myself. #weddingtrends #engagement #engagementrings #weddings by @trashwyfe
