Oh hi, it’s Joseph. New stuff in the shop. New and used CDs plus a brand new listening station for cassettes and CDs. Lots of barely used books with a whole lot of recently released stuff—bring us your gently used books and we’ll start your very own index card to keep up with your used book store credit. And come do a coworking day in the coolest spot to work in the state, surrounded by all the best lunch and dinner options you could ask for. Golly jeepers what a fun place to be every day! by @treehouse________
New releases and new arrivals plus a whole lot of CDs now in stock on our gorg custom made birch shelves. Curated by Greg Davis of the mothership Autumn Records locash in Winooski, we listened to your repeated requests to carry CDs and now they are here. We will feature new release CDs very soon, including the new Interpol, Lizzy McAlpine, Julia Jacklin, Slow Pulp, Carly Rae Jepson, and some modern classics like Daft Punk’s RAM, Uo La Tengo, MJ Lenderman, The Cure, Four Tet, and of course Aphex Twin’s Selected Ambient Works, all on that shiny glossy compact disc format you adore. Our front counter birch wood display features Joseph’s curated choices if you were gonna ask him to pick 9 CDs for your Case Logic car sunshade carrying case. Once we get our new releases delivery this is where those will live, just under the vinyl new releases. Heads up for our upcoming series NICHE AF, events whose common theme is the ever so niche-ness of the featured cultural artifacts/hobbies around which we gather to further obsess over. For example coming soon will be HOUSEPLANT SPEED DATING, featuring the anniversary re-issue of the 1976 vinyl PLANTASIA: WARM EARTH MUSIC FOR PLANTS…AND THE PEOPLE WHO LOVE THEM. We’ll have Plantasia tshirts and vinyl for sale to celebrate (the record will be played over our amazing wide stereo B&W sound system and all you gotta bring is your cute self and a houseplant you’d be willing to gift to the person you wanna shoot your shot with after a few rounds of guided speed dating around our cafe tables. Drinks will be BYOB and another way to bring your unique taste to the event. Stay tuned, your curators and co-hosts of NICHE AF are local Waterbury luminaries Chelsea and Joseph, and we’ve got a whole grab bag of other NICHE AF ideas that feature art, music, books, movies, crafts and hobbies. Feel free to send suggested ideas and we just might make it happen if it’s to our high standard of niche. by @treehouse________
Thank you to @lee.kahrs and Waterbury Roundabout for the well written article about our struggle to keep these community treasures open. Link to read in bio. Myers Mermel, our landlord, continues to falsely claim we are “underpaying” or “not paying” our rent and is now blocking any new tenants from moving in upstairs (we rely on that rental income to pay our rent upstairs and down). Truly unreal what billionaires think they can get away with these days. Lying has been rubber stamped at the highest level of our country so we shouldn’t be surprised. We look forward to presenting all the receipts and deposit slips in court when our lawsuit is decided on by a Washington County jury. Judge Richardson has already issued a restraining order against Mermel for the length of our litigation and his attempt at evicting us last December failed on the merits of our complaint (again we’ve got photos of our deposited checks to match our clearly stated rent amounts in our lease) so we are confident that our easily provable claim that we pay our rent on time and in full will make our case for us. @wdevradio is also a community treasure whose staff are wonderful people, we have zero animus toward them for what the owner is doing to their station and their (literal next door) neighbors. Ask any of our downtown business neighbors and our own tenants what they think about us. We want to see art spaces that boost our local economy not only survive but thrive! How can you help? Comment on why you love The Phoenix, The Hesterly Black and Waterbury Studios! Buy a painting for your house or business! Rent our space for your upcoming party! Or give to the “our landlord is blocking us from renting empty spaces” rent fund at Venmo joseph-pensak by @treehouse________
