NEW EPISODE For Star Trek 60th! Bjo Trimble!

The Star Trek activist who mobilized the fandom to save Star Trek itself. In celebration of Star Trek's 60th Anniversary, we sat down with Bjo during STLV to talk about the letter writing campaign that saved Star Trek, Bjo's other activism work such as naming the first Space Shuttle "Enterprise", and how we all sustain our efforts as activists! Thanks to all who came to be a part of the discussion!

NEW EPISODE!
We are joined by the SyFy Sistas who just launched the new round of the SyFy Sistas Legacy Fund!

The Sistas have been a huge inspiration and a direct catalyst of our podcast. In this episode Tamia Harper, Yvette Blackmon Tom, and Fran Taylor talk about the origin of the Sistas, their mission to highlight Black Creators, create a safe space for people of colour in the fandom, and of course the late Sista Subrina Wood honoured by the SyFy Sistas Legacy Fund. AND we are joined by past guest of the show now turned guest host Dr. Chanda Prescod-Weinstein.

To support the Legacy Fund, and find some really cool swag, check out the official SyFy Sistas Store at the link below. Sales go directly to the Legacy Fund which itself supports social causes being undertaken by members of the fandom.

And if you know somebody in the fan community spearheading a TREKtivist cause, or you yourself are championing a cause that could use financial support, nominations are still being accepted! Use the form below! Fandom for the Federation Future!

"Because I want you to be proud of me"

I needed a role model like Picard in my life as a child. Picard. served as an alternative to my experiences – a man who was gentle and tender, worked toward diplomacy over violence, for justice, humbled by the expertise of those around him, and an explorer in awe of the Universe.

Wesley was my stand in - perhaps for all of us – as we saw his relationship with Picard develop, filling the role of a father who was now gone (or absent or unrelateable). That relationship formed a foundation of who I am. I wanted Picard – and by extension Star Trek itself – to be proud of what I had done and who I was.

As my own activist work matured, I noted all of Sir Patrick Stewart's real-world efforts for social change. His advocacy of women's rights and safety, for the LGBTQ+ community, and now for Alzheimer's research. I am also continually inspired by the work of the wider Star Trek community that I've come to know – in the spirit of the Enterprise and now the wider fleet of ships and stories represented by a larger cast and crew – all people who have evolved from parental figures to now colleagues on a mission with us together.

Perhaps as one ages, the craving for pride evolves to an intent of purpose – because we truly believe in the mission of peace, democracy, justice, and wonder. But that child-like motivation “I wanted you to be proud of me” is the seed. I've lost two mentors of my childhood now. My grandfather who gave me my first view of the stars through his telescope and spoke to me of the importance of bees and fungi. And Sir Patrick Stewart, whom tho I hadn't met, brought to life a character - and championed causes - that should we follow would help make the world the utopia we envision in Star Trek. And I hope that in, whatever form it takes, they would be proud of the work that I, and WE, are all doing now. Should we all be so fortunate to have such humans in our lives – fictional and real - to aspire to. -Matthew

@sirpatstew asked for donations toward Alzheimer's research, links in his bio. And campaign on @trekgeeks as well.

NOW ONLINE: Our interview with @team_karim!
At our #StarTrekStrangeNewWorlds season 4 finale celebration, we had the incredible pleasure of sitting down with Karim Diané, who brings #JayDenKraag to life — #StarTrek's first openly gay Klingon!
Karim joined @romancinggodiva and the @toproudlygo crew for a conversation about bringing Jay-Den to life, representation, the impact of #StarfleetAcademy, and what it means to be part of a franchise that continues to imagine a future where there is room for all of us.
And, because this is To Proudly Go, we also had to ask some of the questions you probably won't hear at Starfleet Headquarters.
A huge thank you to Karim for joining us, embracing the chaos, and helping us close out an incredible season in such a memorable way.

Bjo Trimble! What a LEGEND! Huge thanks to Bjo for spending time with us talking about not only the fan campaign she spearheaded to save Star Trek, but how we can all sustain activism. Looking forward to sharing this interview soon and our gratitude to all who came to hang out with us in Vic's lounge at #STLV to be a part of the talk. If it weren't for Bjo, it is likely this fandom wouldn't exist. 🖖
