Debut novel WHENEVER YOU'RE READY @allenandunwin
POSTS STORIES REELS
This review came out in the first week my novel was published but for whatever reason I didn't post it on the grid and always wished I had. So, very belatedly, my first review. #wheneveryoureready #trishbolton #bookreview by @trishboltonwriter
It's lovely to see my book get a mention in the iconic The Australian Women's Weekly. Also wonderful to see so many books written by women here, and especially nice to see @nataliemurrayauthor another @allenandunwin debut author - part of the brilliant #debutcrew2024 - on the Reading Room page, too. Releasing your first book into the world is a vulnerable moment, so very confirming to read these generous words. #wheneveryourready #debutcrew2024 #nataliemurray #lovejustin #theaustralianwomensweekly by @trishboltonwriter
I feel very fortunate to have a piece in Sunday Life @theageaustralia It's a bit like coming home as The Age was where, long ago, I was first published, going on to write many freelance pieces. Just like the character, Alice, in my book Whenever You're Ready, I once had a cadetship, mine with The Age, in the days you didn't need a uni degree, winning one of two (I think) cadetships, one boy and one girl. Inspired by Jo March from Little Women, I entered The Age competition, submitting the required piece of writing on something topical, those who were successful were called in for a general knowledge test and then an interview. To my great shock, I was one of the successful two. But at 16, very unworldly and very shy, I couldn't even imagine what it would be to be a journalist so I stuck with the typing pool. My mother cried for 3 days. In a strange twist of fate, I ended up, at one stage of my academic career, teaching Masters of Journalism students. Writing this article was a reminder of how much I love non-fiction, it was also a reminder of how important role models are, then and now, for young women who want to take a bigger bite of life than that which is often mapped out for them. I've never really been a big fan of Halloween, a capitalist construct, another American cultural import, is what I probably said, and while that's part of it, so is the fun. And last night Melbourne was having sooo much fun - mad I didn't take more pics - everyone looking fabulously freaky and gorgeous - and with a long weekend to look forward to, ready to party. A late convert, Im already planning something freaky and fabulous for next Halloween 🕸️🕸️🕸️ by @trishboltonwriter
One of those luxurious days where I don't have to be anywhere, do anything, and it's raining. A perfect writing day! I had it all planned, hours of editing and revision, but instead, here I am procrastinating. I can never believe how long it takes (me) to post a few photos. Mostly pics of flowers here and a gorgeous drawing by my favourite 6 year-old who seems to have the gardening bug too 🌷🐝🦋🐞🌷 by @trishboltonwriter

The wonderful Jill Langhammer of @literary_listings fame has done it again with another fantastic Literary Listings Lunch, this time featuring the brilliant Pip Williams in conversation with the equally brilliant Kate Mildenhall. Held at Elwood Bathers, the audience of one hundred plus, heard about the inspiration for Pip's must-read latest book, The German Ward, her caffeine-dependent word count, and how gaps in research are a gift to writers of historical fiction. The lunch is also an opportunity to catch up with old friends and say hi to others you know from the socials but haven't had the chance to meet before. What a lovely gathering. Congratulations Jill 🩷 @pipwilliams_author @kmildenhall @simonschusterau #thegermanward by @trishboltonwriter
On a rainy Melbourne evening there's no place I'd rather be than at the wonderfully warm and welcoming Ramona Books listening to Dr Penni Russon in conversation with Eleanor Limprecht about her latest novel Cul de Sac. Eleanor talked about balancing the darker themes of coercive control with lighter moments, and the importance of not reducing Brandon, the perpetrator of that abuse, to a one -dimensional villain. A writerly and thoroughly absorbing conversation about a powerful and important story. @eleanor_limprecht @eglantinescake @ultimopress @ramonabookshop #culdesac by @trishboltonwriter
A spring madness of flowers, including a pic of the naturestrip/verge gardens, my very bare back garden - thanks to the replacement of 2 fences and a huge prune - Lamingtons, my mother's recipe, made with the help of my favourite 6-year old. We added the cream and jam. My mother would not have countenanced such extravagance by @trishboltonwriter
I've been in the garden all week but it's Friday so I had a shower and put on my purple velvet dress, purple boots and stripey stockings and now I'm heading out to friends for a vegetarian feast 💜 by @trishboltonwriter

This is one of five naurestrips I've planted out in my street, this, the first, started just before Covid. For years I would look across the street at the weeds, rubble and rubbish - its one saving grace, a beautiful and long-lived flowering gum much-loved by native birds - that often collected there and imagined what it could be. And then one day, quite spontaneously, I started clearing the rubble and removing the weeds from the rock hard soil. Next came a layer of straw and then some bits and pieces from my garden. It flourished in that first year but the following years were very dry and many of the plants died. I couldn't reach the garden bed with a hose so I watered with two watering cans for months, unsustainable environmentally and physically. I have slowly been replanting, repeating what does well and adding succulents and grasses. Natives, too. Instead of mulch and compost, which is unaffordable for such large areas, I chop and drop as much as possible. It can look messy but the soil, if not rich and loamy, is vastly improved. Long hot stretches are still a problem, and with global warming out-pacing even the most pessimistic of predictions, likely to become worse. Survival of the fittest. But for the moment, it's immensely satisfying to see how busy it is with birds, bees and insects, humans seem to like it too 🍀🌾🦋🌻☘️🌼❇️🌷🌺🐝🐦‍⬛🪲🐞 by @trishboltonwriter
