BREAKING: Ireland found GUILTY at Climate Court 👩‍⚖️⚖️👨🏻‍⚖️

Today, four young ‘Climate Judges’ have delivered their verdict on Ireland's climate record:

1: Building new fossil fuel infrastructure instead of phasing it out. Guilty. ❌

2: Putting the profits of Big Tech ahead of our future. Guilty. ❌

3: Allowing fossil fuel companies to make record profits while households face soaring energy bills. Guilty. ❌

As EU Energy Ministers arrive in Dublin for crucial talks, our young people are sending a clear message: future generations will judge Ireland for double standards and lack of action.

Ireland claims itself as a climate leader, but allowing the rapid growth of energy-hungry data centres and expanding LNG gas infrastructure exposes Ireland to charges of climate hypocrisy.

Three things you can do:

AMPLIFY: Share this post and help spread the word 📣

MOBILISE: Join the National Climate Demonstration 🪧
14th November, 1pm at the Garden of Remembrance, Dublin

LEARN: Read End Fossil Power, the latest report from @stopclimatechaosire - link in bio 📖

The climate crisis won't wait. Neither should we.

If you'd like to volunteer for posters, flyering or stewarding the demo send us a message and we'll be in touch! We have guides for all our volunteers so its pretty straightforward to get involed ✊️ by @trocaireonline

COP31 is fast approaching, and Ireland and the EU must match words with action and take meaningful climate action! Trócaire's Sinéad Loughran takes us through what needs to be done 🌎

This includes
- a fair, funded fossil fuel phase out
- a just transition
- equitable climate finance
- kicking fossil fuel lobbyists out of negotiations
- ending harmful financial flows
- putting agroecology and food security at the core of negotiations

Make your voice heard and demand action from your politicians by joining us at the National Climate Demo on 14 Nov, 1pm at the Garden of Remembrance. by @trocaireonline

Accurate information is vital to prevent the spread of Ebola in DR Congo. That's why we're working in Bunia, at the epicentre of the outbreak, to ensure communities have access to correct, up-to-date and trusted information. This way, families can take effective measures to prevent Ebola spreading, and know what to do if the disease enters their communities.

This campaign, alongside our health, nutrition and hygiene programmes, saves lives, but Ebola continues to spread. The international community must start taking this devastating outbreak seriously. by @trocaireonline

$On November 14th, we're taking to the streets of Dublin alongside our @stopclimatechaosire partners to demand climate action and end fossil power. Will you join us? We have just experienced the hottest summer on record in Ireland, and in the countries where we work around the world, communities are facing ever more frequent and severe extreme weather, leading to floods and drought. Political inaction is delaying the clean energy transition. The solutions exist but we need leadership and urgency from the Irish Government. We demand a fossil-free future, energy for people not data centres, affordable renewable energy, strong climate laws and a fair transition that leaves no one behind. We need to keep Ireland free of fracked gas and liquefied natural gas imports (LNG) - no new fossil fuel infrastructure. COP31 needs to be a turning point. Together we can build an unstoppable movement 💪 Please join us, and bring your energy, friends and family! by @trocaireonline$

“There has been some good progress, but we’re still a bit unclear as to how we’re going to move toward an actual ratified and implemented legally binding instrument.”

As the 12th session of the UN Binding Treaty negotiations drew to a close, Chris O’Connell of @trocaireonline , a CIDSE member, took stock of the week in Geneva. He spoke for Trócaire and for the communities it works with, including its partners from Guatemala who were at the session.

▶️ Let’s hear from Chris about where the process stands and what still needs to happen.

📷Just a few of our favourite snaps from our Global Solidarity Hub - Youth for Action event in Dublin at the weekend!

Thanks so much to all our speakers, performers, facilitators and musicians* for making the day so incredible, and not to mention all the attendees who made sure we all left feeling a little more hopeful about the world than before.

As one attendee put it, 'The world is hell in a handbag. Events like this give me hope'

Indigenous activists around the world face prosecution, intimidation and murder every day as they stand up to multinational corporations destroying their rivers, land and livelihoods.

That is why we need a strong UN Business and Human Rights Treaty, and why the Irish Government, as a member of the UN Human Rights Council, must take action.

It was an honour to welcome our Guatemalan partners from @copae_guate , the Xinka Parliament and Maya People's Council (@cpogt) to Ireland this week to discuss this in Leinster House. They have also been visiting the UN in Geneva to take part in crucial treaty negotiations. They face near constant threats from mining companies and other large corporations as they defend their human rights and their homes.

Activists like Margarita and Lisbeth deserve to have their voices heard, and they deserve justice and support. The Irish Government can go a long way in providing this! by @trocaireonline

For years, the EU Parliament has made its stance clear: Europe must phase out fossil fuels and support a Fossil Fuel Treaty.

In a resolution laying out the EU's priorities for the upcoming gatherings in Antalya for COP31, the EU Parliament made a strong, science-backed call for a rapid and well-organized phase out of fossil fuels.

The best way for EU countries to follow through on this resolution is to make sure their own climate roadmaps address fossil fuels, and to support the transformative leadership of Global South countries leading the push for a Fossil Fuel Treaty.
