Summer 2025 was hot... hotter than ever. But are our clothes ready to beat the heat? 🥵 — Sanam Sindhi of @southasiaarchive and Chris Fusner of @tropicalfutures discuss the genius of tropical fashion from South and Southeast Asia in Hypebeast’s new feature 🌴 Around the world, climates that were once comfortably temperate, from the Atlantic to the Pacific, are getting warmer and more humid. In 2020, the U.S. National Climate Assessment even reclassified NYC from a coastal temperate zone to a humid subtropical climate zone. 🫠 As the last century of human activity has warmed the planet at an unprecedented rate, Western fashion’s attempts to address the growing need for temperature regulation have not only fallen short but have added to the crisis. While revolutionizing our dress habits may not be the ultimate solution to address planetary warming, the current reality calls for climate-conscious fashion on multiple levels, accounting for the wearer’s needs as the climate shifts. Beyond broadening bio-based alternatives to polyester, understanding heat-conscious dress from equatorial climates can unlock important insights. Link in bio to read on. Photo: Carl Jan Cruz, Getty Images, Gorunway.com by @tropicalfutures
We continue to spread the memes of #latecapitalism in collaboration with @denimtears 🎢 ; this is not financial advice but if you got cash sitting into your bank account maybe consider opening up a brokerage account and buy some 1 month, 3 month and 6 months US treasury bills and get around 5% yield on your money. Current US inflation numbers according to truflation.com is 3.59%; if your bank account isn’t giving you more interest than that; think about it. Not to scare anyone but if you need your cash and your money is sitting in a smaller regional or local bank consider withdrawing some cash. That money isn’t yours until it’s in your own hands. This is not financial advice. Releasing May 16th, 9AM PST on ‘DENIMTEARSDOTCOM’ by @tropicalfutures

Hey everyone, happy to be bringing back Philippines Love Songs after a long hiatus from our lineup. We’re still always shocked by requests from everyone to reprint/repro, and super grateful for everyone reaching out to us and pushing. I think the symbology of the text in the script resonates for us in a powerful way, whereby we are able to express our love for the Philippines and represent our identity in a contemporary sense, and that’s what Tropical Futures has always been about. Much love to Tommy S. Rufino, whose lettering work helped bring Philippines Love Songs to life. We honor the late Pilita Corrales and her work, which has bridged the gap for many of us towards our Filipino identity and culture. She was one of the pioneers sharing the Philippines with the world through voice and presence. This is our first time producing PLS on a cap, so it’s a special release for us, as it’s been a long time. You can now find it on our webstore and in-person, at @purveyrplaza 🇵🇭 by @tropicalfutures

Tropical Futures moodboard vol. 122: a compilation of Aunt Nani @hirokolele with the Jade Vine 🩵🧷🍇 by @tropicalfutures
The jade vine, or tayabak, is endemic to the Philippines 🩵 growing wild in the rainforests of Luzon, Mindoro, and Catanduanes. Its hanging clusters of turquoise flowers are thought to be pollinated by nectar-feeding bats. It also has a small place in everyday life: the flower appears on the back of the Philippine five-peso coin in the New Generation Currency series. by @tropicalfutures

Breeze blocks are a familiar feature of buildings in many tropical countries. Their openings let air and light pass through while providing shade, making them a practical response to warm weather. Used as screens or partitions, they divide spaces without closing them off completely. Their repeated shapes also give walls a distinctive pattern, casting shadows that shift with the sunlight. by @tropicalfutures
