I invented a new way to travel outdoors. by @trvrsoutdoors

This is a touchy subject for a lot of people, and I hope it’s clear this post isn’t coming from a place of pretentiousness. I’ve never claimed to be an expert mountaineer. I’ve just managed to spend over a decade moving through some of the most remote and impractical terrain in the United States, usually alone.

While I appreciate the lessons I’ve learned along the way, I’d argue that a large part of that experience comes down to luck and the ability to keep my composure when things go wrong.

Stay adventurous. Practice humility. Plan better.

Nothing completes a scenic mountain hike quite like a pile of shit-covered toilet paper on the side of the trail.🍃

Truly one of Southern California's most beloved trail features.

Turns out these annoying little zigzags are here for a reason. Cutting switchbacks can create braided trails as more people follow the same path, accelerating erosion and damaging vegetation.

And in the case of poor RJ here, it'll make it harder for him to find his way home since I know for damn sure this idiot has no means of navigation.

We may have found the fastest way down. by @trvrsoutdoors

21 showed up.
21 finished.

Icehouse Canyon was chaos this weekend. Parking overflowed, trail traffic everywhere. Still got organized and moving by 6:50.

All 21 made it up to the saddle in just over an hour, which is an excellent time for a large group. To me, it meant that everyone came prepared and I felt proud to bring such a strong group together. More of that energy on game day. 🃏

We made the call to skip Sugarloaf and keep the day efficient. Talked through it instead. Decision-making is part of the game.

Summited Ontario. Took a break for a photo, and some much needed libations. 🍻

The way down was full of good conversation, summer planning with new friends and decrompressing with a few beers by the cars. Some opted to soak their feet in the creek. Overall, a great time with great people. 🤌🏾

Fool’s Traverse is coming.

Also, comments if I didn't tag you. I want to make sure you're all connected! by @trvrsoutdoors

The Fool's Traverse (previously known as the 11 Peak Traverse) is a hiking challenge located in the San Gabriel Mountains that ascends 11 peaks in the Mt Baldy area.

While the original route includes the Bear Canyon trail near the Baldy Village, I decided to take the Ski Hut Trail on this outing. I have done the FULL route both clockwise and counter clockwise in years prior, but due to the fire damage on the Bear Canyon trail, I decide to exclude that segment and walk the Mount Baldy road instead.

This is an extremely difficult challenge that requires months of training and experience to accomplish. It is best left for the hardiest, or rather, masochistic of outdoor enthusiasts.

Distance: 29.5 miles
Vertical gain: 11,600 feet

Registration for the 2026 event opening soon. I promise. The event will take place in the second or third week or June. Thats all I have for you as of now.

This is my favorite quick and accessible training hike in the Pomona Valley. Its located at the top of Marshall Canyon. This area is never crowded, has ample free parking and some incredible trail networks that are perfect for racking up mileage. This specific route isn’t a marked trail, but it is fairly easy to follow as long as you keep going UP. Just make sure you bring your good shoes because it includes a massive 1600 foot ascent in under a mile.

While the route probably already has a name, I couldn’t find it and decided to call it Inconsiderate Ridge. When you reach the top, you can continue upward to bag peak 3,685 and get some sweet views of Mount Baldy, or head east to explore more of the fire road.
Just be aware, that you’ll need to find your own way back down and while there are many options, most of them are just as rugged and steep.

To get here, just search for THE POINT LA VERNE on google maps. If you need a map of the route, reply with “MAP” in the comments and I’ll send a link via DM.
