Tryst in LA was such a blast. Grateful to all the hands that made this possible.

From Abbie & Nevin leading install, to Cherline coming out and helping all weekend, and to our buddies @purplewindowgallery & @neptuneinjune.ny for helping bring this 3-part gallery collab to life! And of course to the Tryst and @torranceartmuseum team for all the labor that made this massive 3 day event possible. It was such a dream!

@landmarksofart just wrapped up an incredible weekend at Tryst Art Fair in LA. I really appreciated the opportunity to show my video performance, “Tumbling Tumbleweeds”at @tryst.la Art Fair . Been thinking a lot about the absurdities of the body in the landscape.

Big thanks to everyone who made the fair a success:

Last weekend, members of NAMAN participated in the TRYST International Art Fair, an artist-run free event open to all!

Here's our show!

Counter Space brings together seven artists from the NAMAN collective: Aaron Dadacay, Carol Anne McChrystal, Mark Golamco, Maria Villote, Maryrose Cobarrubias Mendoza, Michael Rippens, and Sydney Galindo.

Working across painting, drawing, sculpture, mixed-media, installation, and video, the artists consider what it means to be transplanted—to adapt and take root, while remaining connected to ancestral landscapes.

In the spirit of play, non-conformity, and growth, Counter Space reimagines a former office mail room as gallery, archive, greenhouse, and sanctuary. The existing built-in structures are reframed through artistic interventions and supplanted with fresh purpose.

Counter Space extends NAMAN’s mission to empower artists and cultural workers of Philippine ancestry by fostering collaboration, building collective power, and creating space for contemporary Filipino artistic practices to flourish in Los Angeles and beyond.

Such a fun (and hectic) weekend at the @projectsnaman “Counter Space” show at Tryst art fair. Thanks to all the friends, family, neighbors, fellow artists, and supporters who came through to check out the work, have a chat, and share an ensaymada & San Miguel. The love and good vibes (and smell of jasmine) were palpable. Not to mention the A+ color-coordination! 🌸👚🩷💚🌴🌱

Hope to see you again next year @tryst.la & @torranceartmuseum !! by @tryst.la

We’re in hibernation mode recovering from having the best times at @tryst.la 💫 (Don’t mind us as we slowly post more all week!) Thank you @torranceartmuseum TRYST/NOMAD for putting on such a special alternative art fair for the artists.

The @tryst.la fair put on by @torranceartmuseum was the antidote loft for the current art world lilt. Artists coming together from all over the world to just celebrate the creation of things, the valuable exchange of ideas, the brotherhood/peoplehood of making something from nothing, the incredible gift of ignoring the feedback of the world and making something. We as a collective seek something more than adoration or money — we are looking to make sense of it.

The world needs more of what this gives us. A moment to meet up, display our guts, and laugh.

The room I occupied was filled with amazing artists with such spirit and talent put together by @marylai.co for @alliedspecialprojects , people that I felt I had known all my life.

They all have it. That thing beyond ambition or desire, it’s the thing that lets us reflect on our humanity. The humor and the grit.

MESMORY
Memories, flashes of thought, inspirations :::

erratic, fascinating, unique, hypnotic, simultaneous, overwhelming, indescribable, therapeutic, fleeting, profound, associative, unforgettable, true, fantastic, abstract, dreamlike, cloned, parallel, nostalgic, trance-like, effortless, crazy, forgetful, abyssal

For the exhibition Mesmory the invited artists each contributed two works on paper—either newly created or selected from their existing bodies of work— inspired by the thematic background of the exhibition title’s portmanteau:
Memory + Mesmerizing = Mesmory
Created were a collection of drawings, photos, collages, watercolors, and paper objects, light enough to be carried from Berlin to the other side of the world. Just like in a game of Memory, viewers are invited to find matches. The conditions are a bit more challenging, as the two works by each artist are not identical— they may be similar, or entirely different.
Game on!

Artists:
Alexis Knowlton, Alisa Margolis, Anne Hölck, Anke Völk, Annette Sonnewend,
Bettina Weiß, Caro Mantke, Carl Baratta, Charlotte Bastian, Chinatsu Ikeda,
