POSTS STORIES REELS
Armand Hammer & The Alchemist - Haram (2021) - 2022 ALC edition - “sand” edition, ltd to 275 - SIGNED BY BILLY WOODS AND THE ALCHEMIST this record is the first full collaborative effort between LA based producer extraordinaire (glaze) The Alchemist and Armand Hammer, an NYC based duo consisting of billy woods and ELUCID. this album is so good front to back. some songs are on the shorter side, but i think that a long song (outside of doves) wouldn’t do the duo any good. they thrive in the short creative bursts of their densely packed verses. The Alchemist, as you can see by my posts, is one of my top 5 fav producers of all time (glaze). some of his on here beats are phenomenal, and they really complement woods and ELUCID’s delivery. i do think that the butcher cover fits the first half of this album and that the second half fits this ALC edition cover. woods and ELUCID work so well off of each other. and even though woods is the more critically acclaimed half of armand hammer, ELUCID still delivers some great verses on here and on his solo projects. earl also delivers a standout verse on “Falling Out The Sky” along with some of woods and ELUCID’s best verses of the entire album. there’s a reason why this song is so popular. i love this record! a story about this particular variant is that apparently none of the orders purchased from ALC’s website were ever shipped. however, some random on eBay had most of the stock of them for some reason. and that is how most people got their hands on this variant! standouts on here include: “Sir Benni Miles”, “Roaches Don’t Fly”, “Indian Summer”, “Falling Out The Sky”, “Squeegee”, and “Stonefruit”. - album rating: 8.7/10 - song playing: “Sir Benni Miles” #vinyl #vinylcollection #armandhammer #billywoods #thealchemist by @twahsrecs
Lil Ugly Mane - Mista Thug Isolation (2012) - 2025 2xLP (extra Dale Krueger on side D) - bought from @manwearinghelmet webstore this record is mentioned a lot when it comes to 2010s underground rap, and for a very good reason. it is a cornerstone of rap records that you would get bullied for listening to. this album got me and most other people into lil ugly mane, and for a good reason. the production and vocal delivery on this project is otherworldly. i feel like LUM succeeded in his goal of making essentially a love letter to the memphis rap scene, as it has all the tell-tale signs of a memphis rap record, except with slightly better recording equipment. LUM’s pen game is also incredible, with super abstract bars contrasting very nicely with the almost DJ Screw inspired beats strewn across the record. the features, albeit only two, are both amazing as well, with Supa Sortahuman and a very young, Raider Clan, pre-32 Zel era denzel curry. both drop amazing performances, however curry’s verse sticks out slightly more for me. for anyone that may still need an introduction to lil ugly mane, this project and uneven compromise would be fantastic places to start. you’ll be in for a trip on this record, but a phenomenal one nonetheless. some standouts on here include: “Twistin”, “Throw Dem Gunz”, “Wishmaster”, “Serious Sh**”, “B*tch I’m Lugubrious”, and “Maniac Drug Dealer III”. - album rating: 9.1/10 - song playing: “Serious Sh**” #liluglymane #recordcollection #lum #mistathugisolation #vinyl by @twahsrecs
Domo Genesis & The Alchemist - No Idols (2013) - OG PRESS, NUMBERED 778/1000 - SIGNED BY THE ALCHEMIST forgot to mention it in my stories, but this is my 600 follower special! i found this record at a shop in north dakota of all places. they cut me a deal on it bc of the ringwear on back. i really hadn’t heard much of domo genesis outside of odd future and this is a great starting point for his solo work if you want to get into it! domo feels more in his element then ever. this was released during the peak creative output of Odd Future, with Loiter Squad, Tyler, and Frank firing on all cylinders creatively. this record is an addition to that peak creative output, as domo’s performance on this is great! his skills as an MC really shine over alc’s production. it helps that the feature list on here is pretty stacked, with Gibbs, Tyler, Earl, Vince Staples, and Action Bronson just to name a few. some of my personal favorite Alc beats are in this project, and him and domo work together incredibly well. a sequel is needed. highlights on here include: “Elimination Chamber”, “No Idols”, “Till The Angels Come”, and “Prophecy”. - album rating: 8.1/10 - song playing: “F. Everybody Else” ps: special thank you to @chris_collecting_records for meeting alc! literally wouldn’t have happened if weren’t for him! this one is my most valuable records discogs median wise, but it’s basically priceless now that i have a story attached to it! last photo is from the Erykah Badu tour back in August. tags: #vinyl #vinyllove #vinylcollectionpost #vinylcollection #records #recordcollecting #recordcollection #thealchemist #alcrecords #domogenesis #noidols #tylerthecreator #earlsweatshirt #hiphopvinyl #oddfuture by @twahsrecs
Death Grips - Exmilitary (2011) - 2025 numbered official(?) reissue - bought directly from @ormolycka - green swirl, 080/500 this record means so much to me. i first discovered death grips at 14 after being terminally online and stumbling onto this after hearing the band being heavily discussed online. i started with the money store, and then moved on to better projects. i then got to this project. it was a life changing experience for my teenage brain, and it has got me hooked on death grips and hip hop in general ever since. exmilitary is an experience in and of itself. there are no other records like it. its abrasive, in your face production style on top of MC Ride’s vocals make for some memorable tracks on here. this pressing, especially, smacks you in the face with its loudness and how crisp it sounds for a single LP. people even say that this pressing is better than the original, as this one has the full tracklist from the original master files. this record paved the way for me to discover a lot of other experimental music, and i thank the band for that. i would also like to thank ormolycka for giving me the chance to hold an actual copy of exmilitary for a price that isn’t a month of my rent! standouts on here: yes rating: 10/10 song playing: “Beware” tags: #records #recordcollection #recordcollecting #vinyl #vinylrecord #hiphop #hiphopvinyl #deathgrips #exmilitary #guillotine #vinyllove by @twahsrecs
Joey Bada$$ - 1999 (2012) - 2022 purple-in-tan 2xLP - 10th anniversary “king arthur when he swung his sword a king author i ain’t even used my pen in like a month or four” - Capital STEEZ (R.I.P.) this is the debut mixtape from brooklynite rapper joey bada$$. on this project, joey and his friends show incredible rapping prowess at just SIXTEEN when this thing dropped! joey dropped this on a TUESDAY NIGHT. a SCHOOL NIGHT. and joey raps like he has the experience of decades under his belt. the production on this project, which is a love letter to hip hop production in general, has beats from the likes of Chuck Strangers, MF DOOM, knxwledge, Lord Finesse, and J Dilla. the DOOM beats that joey picked for this project occur back-to-back and really makes this album pop. his rapping is insane. he raps with the energy of a kid who just got their first record deal. him and all of his Pro Era colleagues are all fantastic. especially Capital STEEZ, a phenomenal rapper taken from us way way too soon. standouts on this album include: “World Domination”, “Waves”, “Survival Tactics”, “Pennyroyal”, and “Righteous Minds”. - album rating: 8.0/10 - song playing: “Survival Tactics (ft. Capital STEEZ) i still cannot get over the fact that he dropped this at sixteen on a tuesday night. if you’re reading this: it’s too late. give up. Tyler The Creator - Igor (2019) - ltd alt cover w/ mint vinyl once again, I’m ever thankful to @dj.machinegun for the assist on this one! happy 6th anniversary to this great album!!! this was many people’s first introduction to tyler the creator, even though it wasn’t for me (flower boy). and it is a dang good entry point into tyler. after cherry bomb was met with mixed reception, tyler set out to make music that appeals to the masses. and he succeeded with this record. this is a genre-bending project. not really a rap album, but more of a neo-soul album. it is a deeply emotional record, which makes each song and song placement very important to the story this album tells. it tells the story of tyler in a love triangle with another man, and the arc of their relationship. it progresses from infatuation on “EARFQUAKE”, a breakup on the tail end of “A BOY IS A GUN”, and then finally, wondering if they could reconnect platonically on the devastating last track, “ARE WE STILL FRIENDS?”. overall, this album tells a story. a devastating one about love and breakup, but a story nonetheless. PLEASE listen if you haven’t. standouts on here include: (basically the whole thing 😭) - album rating: 9.5/10 - song playing: “NEW MAGIC WAND” tags: #vinyl #vinylrecord #vinylcollection #vinylcollector #vinyllove #tylerthecreator #tyler #igor #earfquake #voteigor #hiphopvinyl #records #recordcollection #recordcollecting by @twahsrecs
Young Thug - Barter 6 (2015) - 2025 2x45 RSD silver - with insert decided I’d do a post for this album’s 10th anniversary! admittedly, i’ve only recently gotten into thug, as his fan base can be a bit toxic at times. but this record is a solid record all around. thug’s voice is one of the most recognizable modern rap voices; even his singing; while not the best i’ve heard, has made some pretty memorable hooks. the production on this thing is also pretty good. Barter 6 has some good feature work on it as well; even though the inclusion of someone like Boosie Badazz on “Can’t Tell” is almost comedic, even if Boosie fits on the song. overall, this mixtape along with his other tape, “Jeffrey”, solidified Thug as a main-stay in the mainstream rap game. highlights on here include; “With That”, “Halftime”, and “Check”. - album rating: 6.8/10 - song playing: “Check” #vinyl #vinylcollection #vinylcollector #vinylrecords #youngthug #freethug #barter6 #birdman #hiphopvinyl #rap #hiphop #records #recordcollection by @twahsrecs
Death Grips - The Powers That B (2015) - 2022 RSD red 2xLP - double album, with NOTM and jenny death “i’m so black quarterback air it out albino” “i like my ipod more than fnckin’” HAPPY 10TH TO THIS AMAZING DOUBLE ALBUM! both albums in here are fantastic, so i’ll start with notm. it is filled with death grips’ normal abrasiveness; but with samples of icelandic singer-songwriter björk splattered throughout. because of their two remix tracks they did for her, bjork gave them a vocal sample pack for them to do whatever they please with; and fellas on the moon is what came of that. a soaring, abstract piece of work, similar to their previous works. with zach using a programmed drum machine to play björk’s samples on top of his normal drumming. it is a great first half of this record. standouts on NOTM are: “Voila”, “Black Quarterback”, “Up My Sleeves”, “Big Dipper”, and “Billy Not Really” now, to the one that is amazingly heavy and disgusting in its own right, jenny death. this album was almost mythical before it came out, something of legend. during this albums rollout, it was an inside joke to ask when this part of the album was coming out. as a teaser/joke, andy morin and zach released an instrumental project named fashion week, whose track letters spelt out the phrase “JENNY DEATH WHEN”. jenny death’s eventual release took them almost a year and it was worth the wait. the second half of this album starts out with a harsh cymbal crash and screaming feedback, and it DOES NOT let up for the rest of the record. this half is some of the most abrasive stuff DG had ever put out up to this point, with some points on this project bordering on noise rock instead of hip hop. seriously, this thing is speaker busting-ly loud. and that’s whwith some tracks featuring zach’s former bandmates, including Nick Reinhart on guitar (who went with them on their most recent tour). this record is definitely something to behold, and it was well worth the over a year plus wait. standouts include: basically the whole thing - NOTM rating: 8.1/10 - JD rating: 9.5/10 - song(s) playing: “Up My Sleeves”, “Inanimate Sensation” by @twahsrecs
Madlib - Beat Konducta: Vol 1, Movie Scenes (2005) - 2005 press mini post for this one, since it is madlib monday! (madlib monday might be a monthly thing who knows 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️) just recently listened to the beat konducta beat tape series in full; and this album came out in my top 3 of the entire series. madlib is really in his bag with this volume, producing some absolute bangers. madlib’s production skills will never be matched for the rest of human history. not much to say about this record, LISTEN TO THE WHOLE BEAT KONDUCTA SERIES!!! highlights on here include “Pyramids (Change)”, “Sir Bang (Bounce)”, and “The Payback (Gotta)” - album rating: 7.5/10 - song playing: “Pyramids (Change)” #vinyl #vinylcollectionpost #vinylcollector #records #recordcollection #recordcollecting #hiphopvinyl #hiphop #rap #madlib #beatkonductaz #lordquas #vinyllove #vinyllovers #vinylgram by @twahsrecs
ARMAND HAMMER - SHRINES (2020) - 2023 deluxe 2xLP orange w/ black splatter - extra instrumental LP “it started as a lesson of achieving dreams and reaching fantastical heights ended with us watching the challenger rocket smoldering on the black and white” peace once again to @dj.machinegun for the deal on this one! armand hammer is billy woods, who has been on this page before, and elucid. based out of NYC, this duo continues to be a great super duo, where both members have amazing solo catalogues, which are recommended listening. billy woods, who’s flow is definitely one-of-a-kind. there will ever be only him in terms of pure lyrical content. his storytelling is on another level. his wordplay is also incredible. elucid also is an incredible rapper who is the perfect compliment to woods’ complexity. the production work on this thing is memorable, with navy blue, messiah musik, nicholas craven, and even earl sweatshirt lending their production on this project. overall, a must listen for any fan of abstract hip hop. standouts on here include “Bitter Cassava”, “Charms”, “Ramesses II”, and “Leopards”. - album rating: 8.0/10 - song playing: “Bitter Cassava ft. Pink Siifu” tags: #vinyl #vinyllove #vinylcollectionpost #vinylcollection #vinylrecords #hiphop #rap #hiphopvinyl #abstracthiphop #records #recordcollecting #armandhammer #shrines #billywoods #elucid by @twahsrecs
KING GEEDORAH - TAKE ME TO YOUR LEADER (2003) “RENDER UNTO GEEDORAH WHAT IS GEEDORAH’S” - 2023 2xLP 20th anniversary reissue - with Anti-Matter b/w I Wonder 7 inch king geedorah is DOOM, on both production and rhyming duty. geedorah is what DOOM went under in his brief time in Monsta Island Czars, where him and MF Grimm worked. Grimm is featured on the track “No Snakes Alive”. this is one of DOOM’s more conceptual projects. DOOM is seen rapping as a three headed dragon-kaiju-esque monster with world takeover on his mind. personally, some of my personal favorites production wise in DOOM’s catalog are on this album. these beats really build into the “three-headed monster” persona DOOM was trying to channel. the feature work on the album is also incredible, with Kurious, MF Grimm, Hassan Chop, and Mr. Fantastik on it just to name a few. throughout this album, there are breaks in the beats with samples from old kaiju movies, serving as a warning to the listener that Geedorah is on his way to take everything over. he is a controller of land, space, and air. he shows no mercy and/or remorse. he is Geedorah. some favorites on here include: “Fazers”, “Fast Lane”, “I Wonder”, “Anti-Matter”, and “The Fine Print”. - album rating: 8.3/10 - song(s) playing: “Fazers”, “Anti-Matter” tags: #records #record #recordcollection #vinyl #vinyllove #vinylcollection #vinylcommunity #vinylclub #vinyllover #vinylrecord #mfdoom #mfdoomforever #takemetoyourleader #mrfantastic #metalfingers #doom by @twahsrecs
Kendrick Lamar - GNX (2024) - 2025 indie exclusive blue vinyl “TURN THIS TV OFF TURN THIS TV OFF” in honor of his super bowl performance, (which was amazing) here’s kendrick’s latest. this one was a surprise when it dropped. best surprise anyone can ask for. minimal announcement, he dropped a teaser vid and then an hour later; he dropped this album. this album is an amazing effort by kdot. coproduced by jack antonoff and sounwave, which makes this a really enjoyable listen. music you could play in front of normal people and have no one bat an eye. while on the shorter side for a kendrick project, it certainly packs a punch. he brings out memorable tracks on this project. stuff with hooks that are earworms that i catch myself saying randomly at home, such as peekaboo’s intro and squabble up’s chorus. the two songs he did with SZA, “luther” and “gloria” are also amazing songs. SZA really makes those songs. reincarnated is, just that, reincarnation. in the track, kendrick raps in 2pac’s cadence and style, while using kendrick’s storytelling capabilities. the beat on “heart pt 6” is also a high point, even with it being just an interpolation of the song “use your heart” by the r&b trio SWV. also, the song “tv off”, produced by mustard, has quotable lyrics all over it. it sounds like a spiritual successor to the track not like us. the features on this thing are also pretty solid, who mainly focus on LA based rappers and performers. overall, very solid listen, very solid music. standouts on here include, “squabble up”, “tv off”, “luther (with SZA)”, “heart pt. 6”, “hey now”, and “peekaboo”. - album rating: 8.1/10 - song playing: “Squabble Up” tags: #vinylnerd #vinyl #vinylcollection #vinylcommunity #vinylcollector #vinyladdict #rap #hiphop #kendrick #kendricklamar #sza #squabbleup #mustard #kdot #recordcollection #recordcollector #records #hiphopvinyl #hiphoprecords by @twahsrecs
