POSTS STORIES REELS

This was a nice way to close out harvest.

@billynorriswine of @vinousmedia published his write-up on SBC’s 2024 vintage this morning, with 100 points for our Mae Estate ‘BR’ Chardonnay, 98 points for Mae Estate Chardonnay and Fiddlestix Vineyard Pinot Noir, and a strong showing for the 2024s from top to bottom.

We don’t make wines with scores in mind, but it’s always meaningful to see the work of our vineyard and cellar teams recognized.

Thank you to everyone who has already brought some of these 2024s into their cellars, and to everyone who continues to support what we do! 👏 🎉

Busy times! 🎉 😅 💪

With the vintage in full swing, were able to break away for a series of events leading into the @staritahillswinealliance Wine & Fire weekend. One of the highlights was this retrospective tasting with @gregbrewerwines and @hitchingpost2, looking back across three decades through wines that each had a very personal connection to our own journey in the Sta. Rita Hills.

It was a great afternoon in the Fiddlestix barn, surrounded by friends, colleagues, and many of the people who helped lay the groundwork for what this place has become.

More than anything, the tasting was a reminder of the age-worthiness of these wines and just how rewarding and exciting wines from this place can be in the cellar!

Vintage update:

For many, this is shaping up to be one of the earliest harvests on record. Summer-like conditions arrived in late winter/early spring, and following some solid rainfall in early January, the vineyards popped and never looked back.

Quality looks fantastic and the vines are happy. Sparkling is well in, and we moved into still Chardonnay last week. More Chard this week, along with the start of some Pinot, before really diving into the Pinot most likely next week.

It’s been a great pace so far, giving us the time to make proper decisions.

We would also like to throw out it is a great time of year to visit the region. Lots of action, and perfect weather…🌞

We had a great time showing @skurnikwines around the Sta. Rita Hills last week. Sunshine, a lot of green, and everything starting to feel like spring. 🌱

And, as spring does, the rain returns. #springshowers 🌧️ by @tylerwinery

Member Spotlight: Tyler Winery ✨

Santa Barbara native Justin Willett launched Tyler in 2005 with a clear aim: site driven Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from the Sta. Rita Hills. Today the wines draw on historic SRH vineyards like Sanford & Benedict and La Rinconada, alongside Tyler’s estate sites: the hillside Mae Estate—planted to Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and a small parcel of Syrah—and Fiddlestix Vineyard, acquired in 2021. Both are farmed organically and shape a style built on elegance, structure, and clarity.

In recent years, Tyler has built a serious sparkling program, crafted in house using traditional méthode champenoise. Mae Estate fruit sits at the core, with small lots of Blanc de Blancs, Blanc de Noirs, and Brut Rosé that spend extended time on the lees for finesse and a fine mousse. The result is bright, coastal bubbles that feel very much of the Sta. Rita Hills.

Book an intimate, appointment-only tasting at the Mae Estate Vineyard House or drop into the Tyler × Lieu Dit tasting room and wine bar in downtown Santa Barbara.

We pulled a couple bottles from the library while finalizing pairings for an upcoming dinner. 🍽️

2013 Zotovich Vineyard Chardonnay: 🌊
A clear snapshot of Sta. Rita Hills maturity. The coastal influence is front and center with sea air, a subtle kelp-like salinity, and bright citrus that leans toward concentrated Meyer lemon. The palate is textural and layered yet still driven by fresh acid. A strong example of how Sta. Rita Hills Chardonnay can age with both detail and energy.

2017 Bien Nacido ‘N Block’ Pinot Noir: 🍷
Initially compact but, with some air, opened into red fruit, flowers, a touch of tobacco leaf, and a long, fine finish. A couple hours in a decanter really lets the wine stretch out. It’s in a great place right now with plenty of life ahead.

A great start to summer in SBC, lots of sun has helped the vines flourish. Here’s a glimpse of our Mae Estate Syrah block before some (much needed) canopy management earlier this week. 🌞
