Meet our Program Director, Dr. Miles J. Pfaff, MD, MHS! 💙💛

Dr. Pfaff is a board-certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon who specializes in craniofacial surgery. His passion for plastic surgery began at Yale School of Medicine, where he completed an NIH research fellowship and earned a Master of Health Science investigating craniosynostosis. With over 100 peer-reviewed publications and presentations, he remains actively involved in academic surgical societies and serves as a reviewer for medical journals. 🔬

Beyond the OR, Dr. Pfaff is passionate about teaching and mentoring the next generation of plastic surgeons. Whether he’s teaching in anatomy lab, attending conferences with students and residents, or cheering them on along the way, he’s always finding ways to support his trainees! He’s also passionate about global surgery, traveling on international surgical missions to expand access to specialized craniofacial care! 🌎

When he’s not in the hospital, you might find him cheering on the Dodgers ⚾️💙 or going for a long run (including a 5K with our residents!). He’s also not afraid to have a little fun at work — even dressing up as a giraffe to bring smiles to the kids at CHOC! 🦒

We’re so lucky to have Dr. Pfaff leading our UCI Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery family! 🐜 by @uciplasticsurgeryresidency

Last week, our residents had the honor of learning from our visiting professor, Dr. Shaun Mendenhall of the University of Utah. Thank you @pedshanddoc for spending the day with us and sharing your expertise in the anatomy lab and lectures. We hope to welcome you back soon! by @uciplasticsurgeryresidency

We loved welcoming Cathy Wu, a plastic surgery resident at @uciplasticsurgeryresidency, to Align this week! 🏳️‍⚧️

Cathy joined Dr. Pang (@seoulful.808) and @brennamoe in the OR to learn more about #GenderAffirmingSurgery and patient care.

Of course, we also had to give her a taste of San Francisco — from @burmalove to @dandelionchocolate and Yasukochi’s Sweet Stop. 🍫

Thanks for spending the week with us, Cathy. We’re excited to see where your career takes you!

Meet our intern Dr. Nate Tingen!
A Southern California native who has finally made it back home. He graduated from @tuftsuniversity and medical school @tuftsmed as part of the combined MD/MPH program

Nate chose plastic surgery to learn truly what it means to restore someone’s identity and function in a surgical manner. He is excited to learn from the best and most well-rounded group of plastic surgeons.

Nate immediately felt at home after his sub-internship last summer. He was especially impressed by the degree of trauma and opportunities for complex reconstruction, combined with high volume of microsurgery, hand, and bread-and-butter plastic surgery. The amazing teaching environment from attendings and senior residents made Nate confident he would thrive and feel at home.

Nate is so excited to join the UCI family for the next 6 years. Outside the hospital, you can find him pretty much anywhere there’s water, swimming in a lap pool or getting pummeled by waves in the ocean, or hiking up to the best place to catch a sunset peek after work by @uciplasticsurgeryresidency

A perfect Sunday Funday with our residents, fellows, and new faculty at the Boss’s place! Thank you, Dr. @grdevans and Mrs. Evans, for hosting! #workfam #uciplasticsurgery by @uciplasticsurgeryresidency

Elaine was born and raised in Orange County here in Socal and stayed close to home for college at Caltech @caltech, majoring in biology. She then made her way to the Southeast, attending medical school at Duke University @dukemdprogram

Elaine chose plastic surgery because of the fascinating reconstructive procedures that can vastly improve a patient’s quality of life and help them feel whole again.

Elaine loved how the residents felt like a family on interview day and how invested the senior residents and faculty were in teaching junior residents. She was drawn to the all star faculty, wide variety of reconstructive and aesthetic exposure, and ability to serve a diverse patient population in the community she calls home!

Outside the hospital, you can find Elaine trying out all the new boba and matcha shops, cheering on the Lakers, and checking out all the different trails in Socal! by @uciplasticsurgeryresidency

This weekend, Dr. Zaidal Obagi & I welcomed UCI Plastic Surgery residents and fellow to our Beverly Hills ZO Skin Centre for an immersive workshop on skin classification, ZO protocols, and controlled-depth peels. Education is at the heart of everything we do.

🚨New Faculty🚨

Please join us in welcoming 𝗗𝗿. 𝗕𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗮𝗻 𝗘𝘃𝗮𝗻𝘀 and his family to the UCI Department of Plastic Surgery!

Dr. Evans graduated magna cum laude from USC before completing his plastic surgery residency at Yale, where he was honored as Chief Resident of the Year. He then completed a prestigious fellowship in Microvascular Surgery at MD Anderson Cancer Center.

Dr. Evans has demonstrated exceptional clinical expertise, outstanding academic achievement, and a deep commitment to resident and medical student education. We are excited to welcome him back to Southern California and know he will be an outstanding addition to our faculty as we continue our mission to 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝗰𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿, 𝗧𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹.
