U.S. News & World Report ranks UC San Diego No. 6 among public universities and No. 29 among national universities.
The Department of Economics in the School of Social Sciences rose six spots and is ranked No. 12 nationally and No. 4 among public universities.
The Department’s specialties in Development Economics and Econometrics are both ranked No. 2 among public universities.

UC San Diego’s undergraduate program in Economics is distinctive, with a rigorous foundation that helps students think deeply about the structure of the problems they are trying to solve and prepares them for careers across many fields. Tom Vogl, professor and chair of the Department says, “Our classic areas of strength — what put the department on the map decades ago — are microeconomic theory and econometrics, and we continue to be strong in those areas.” That foundation has only deepened, with strength across environmental economics, development economics, macroeconomics, international economics, experimental economics, and applied economics.

The Economics Laboratory on campus (Malk Hall, by Goody's) is looking for study participants. We run short paid studies year-round and we're recruiting for sessions this week. Most sessions are about an hour, and pay varies by study — recent ones have averaged around $20-25. No econ background needed, all majors and years welcome. Sign up for the participant pool here: econlab.ucsd.edu — once you're in, you just pick session times that work for you. by @ucsdeconomics
