Last Wednesday, EGO hosted a Q&A panel for teaching advice! We were joined by 3 professors from the @uf.english department — Dr. Maioli, Dr. Galvan, and Dr. Ulanowicz — who shared their invaluable experiences with the attending grad students. Thank you so much to all who participated and attended! Look out for future EGO events focused on teaching. by @ufl.ego

What can art teach us about the places, plants and animals around us? 🌿

Find out with us! Living with Others is a speaker series bringing artists and communities together to explore how creativity can shape the way we think about nature, memory, care and the environments we share. Come hang out, get inspired and explore new ways of seeing the world around you.

🎨 Oct. 17 | 2–4 p.m. | Harn Museum of Art

Meet Miami-based artist Lee Pivnik. Pivnik creates drawings, sculptures and installations inspired by South Florida’s plants, insects and animals, exploring interspecies relationships and futures rooted in mutual care rather than extraction.

🌼 Nov. 14 | 2–4 p.m. | Lake Alice Viewing Area

Cornelius Tulloch and Arsimmer McCoy bring together art, storytelling, memory and place. Tulloch’s work explores culture, nature, the built environment and Black relationships with wetlands, while McCoy’s practice centers poetry, education, storytelling and community.

✨ Both events are free and open to the public.

What happens when the deep sea becomes a place of beauty, fascination and destruction all at once? 🌊

We’re kicking off the 2026–27 Blue Humanities Speaker Series with our first speaker, Dr. Stacy Alaimo of the University of Oregon, for “The Abyss Stares Back: Science and Aesthetics in the Deep Sea.”

📅 Thursday, Oct. 1
🕓 4–5:30 p.m.
📍 Smathers Library 100
🎟️ Free and open to the public

From bizarre deep-sea creatures to the dazzling images that circulate through science, art, literature and popular culture, Alaimo explores why the abyss fascinates us so much, what that fascination can obscure, and how the tension between discovery and destruction might shape the way we care for life in the deep ocean.
