Meet Gary Gabranski, a classic Corvette enthusiast whose chronic hip pain made it difficult to enjoy his passion for restoring cars. After two robotic-assisted hip replacements at UM Upper Chesapeake Medical Center with Raj Yalamanchili, MD, Gary is back in action!

Today, he's walking his dog, moving without pain and restoring his collection of seven Corvettes, earning him the nickname "Corvette whisperer."

For Gary, these surgeries weren't just about relieving pain. They were about reclaiming his independence and getting back to what makes him happy.

His advice to others living with chronic joint pain? Don't wait to seek help.

A keen eye. A quick decision. A life-changing impact.

Congratulations to Christina Reillo, Sonographer PRN, Ultrasound, our latest Josie King Patient Safety Award winner!

During a routine imaging exam, Christina recognized signs of a potentially life-threatening arterial blockage and quickly escalated care, helping prevent a critical delay in treatment.

Her vigilance, clinical expertise and courage to speak up reflect what patient safety is all about.

Thank you, Christina, for putting patients first and making every moment count! by @ummedsystem

ADORABLE!!! | @ummedsystem Children's Hospital celebrates Halloween with patients. Video in the WBAL-TV 11 News app, on WBALTV.com and at link in bio. by @ummedsystem

The Hematology-Oncology clinic did not simply arrive. They danced in, full disco.

Every Halloween, units across University of Maryland Golisano Children’s Hospital dress up and bring treats to our patients. This year brought Dalmatian puppies, a few vegetables, and one Minnie Mouse who ran into a small patient wearing the exact same costume.

Happy Halloween from all of us.

When the chest tightness hit, Doug Evans was packing for a trip to Ocean City. His wife, Kristen, a personal trainer, recognized the signs of a heart attack and drove him straight to the University of Maryland Upper Chesapeake Medical Center in Bel Air.

The emergency team moved fast. EKG. Nitroglycerin. A rush to a room. Doug’s heart stopped twice. Twice, the team brought him back. Interventional cardiologist Dr. Michael Drossner and the Cardiac Catheterization Lab team placed a stent to reopen a fully blocked artery. Four hours after arriving, Doug was awake and asking to go home.

Today, Doug is back to the honey-do list, cardiac rehab, and the little things that matter most. His advice: don’t sweat the small stuff.

Costumes are pretty much non-negotiable at UM Rehabilitation & Orthopaedic Institute.

Every Halloween, team members, patients, and visitors go all in, and this year was no exception.

Tell us what you’re going as.

When UM Shore Regional Health ran its community health needs assessment, focus groups named diabetes, heart disease, stroke, and hypertension as the region's biggest health problems. They also said something the clinical data would never have surfaced: health information is hard enough to follow, and a doctor's office is not a comfortable place to ask questions.

So the outreach team stopped waiting for people to come to the medical setting.

Hypertension was near the top of that list, so blood pressure checks went where people already were. At Bradford House in Cambridge, the team shows up monthly, alongside health education, snacks, and Bingo.

Residents know them now. What started as outreach has turned into something closer to friendship.

Prevention is one-half of the work. Connection is the other.

As Philadelphia Eagles quarterback, Jalen Hurts sits out the remainder of the NFL season due to blood clots, it has shed a spotlight on this serious medical condition.

CTV News spoke exclusively with Dr. Sunil Swani of @ummedsystem about blood clots and deep vain thrombosis.

Dr. Swani says treatment for blood clots would consist of getting a blood thinner.

He went on to say that NFL players wouldn’t be able to play because the risk of bleeding is high.
