WE KEEP US SAFE!!!! And that is why we prioritize accessibility in our store. This guide covers the ways we make our space accessible ALL THE TIME, accommodations we offer at request, and the best way to talk to us directly with questions or about other accommodations. We are a small team and there are limits on what we can offer, but we love to try! Visit our website for more details on our accessibility webpage. COVID and masks Masks are required in the store at all times. If you forget to bring your own, free masks are available for all visitors, thanks in part to our community partners. In addition to requiring masks, we: Have six rated air purifiers running in the store at all times. Provide hand sanitizer and rapid covid tests. Collab with SLC Covid Education to be a drop off location for their resources. Sensory Support We provide free sensory kits to anyone who needs them, particularly during in-store events. Kits include: Handwarmers and/or cold packs, earplugs, fidget toys, and sour candies and gum We are not a fragrance-free space but do try to minimize fragrance. Some items we carry, like candles, are fragrant. We do ask that visitors please refrain from wearing heavily scented products (including essential oils) and smoke at least 20 feet away from the entrance to the space. Restroom Information Our restroom is single-stall and gender-inclusive. It is wheelchair accessible, with grab bars beside and behind the toilet. The door is 32 inches wide and is not automatic. The sink is approximately 40 inches tall with open space below. There is also a changing station in the restroom and offer free sanitary products, Narcan, and various other forms of protection like condoms. Physical Accessibility Our entrances are wheelchair accessible (no steps) and have an automatic door openers. Our retail floor is at least 33" wide between all shelves and tables. Bookshelves reach up to 7 feet and may require a stool or assistance from an employee to reach the higher shelves. Our seating is specifically picked to be accessible for all sizes, with some accommodating up to 650 pounds. We are an all-ages sober space. ID: in comments by @undertheumbrellabookstore

What's the difference between Staff Reads and Staff Recommendations? ๐Ÿ’œ Staff Reads Staff Reads is a shelf we update monthly with what we are currently reading. We try our best to read books that are relevant each month! We also donate a portion of sales from Staff Reads to MMIR+ Utah. โค๏ธ Staff Recommendations Staff Recommendations is our staffโ€™s all time favorite books! Each staff has at least one shelf and they often have a theme. For example, Summer has a tattoo shelf, Lewis has a slipstream shelf, Alexa has manga and memoir shelves, and Kaitlyn has many many different shelves. Shop Staff Reads if you want to know what we just read and raise funds for MMIR+ Utah! Shop Staff Recommendations if you want our favorite books in specific genres or themes! Come meet local author Armando Lรณpez! Hang out, get your book signed, and talk all things dark fantasy! ๐Ÿฉธ Armando Lรณpez: A Pillar of Blood and Moonlight ๐Ÿ“… Sunday, November 22 ๐Ÿ•– 12-2 pm ๐Ÿ“ Under the Umbrella Bookstore - SLC, Utah ๐Ÿ˜ท Masks required About A Pillar of Blood and Moonlight: For nineteen-year-old hunter Elรญas, the dark forest was a place of quiet warningsโ€”until the night a brutal beast took his eight-year-old sister from him. Shattered by grief, he stalks the freezing woods expecting a rabid animal, only to unearth the Drugoi: a ruthless, predatory reptilian creature born of desperate deals better left unspoken. By confronting this hidden horror, Elรญas inadvertently kicks wide open an ancient door to visceral, bone-chilling forces. Now, swept into a world of hidden dangers and deep betrayals, he must navigate the terrifying physical consequences of the huntโ€”while bearing the crushing weight of not measuring up to the expectations of what masculinity should be, and the suffocating, silent ache of an unrequited love. Armando Lรณpez is a dark fantasy author based in Salt Lake City, Utah. Drawing deep inspiration from historical atmospheres and folklore, he has been writing stories since childhood. When he isnโ€™t writing atmospheric fiction, he is hanging out with his dog Milo, working out at the gym, or photographing LEGO minifigures. This event is free to attend. The venue is wheelchair accessible, and masks are required and provided. ASL interpretation can be provided with 2 weeks advance notice. Please reach out with any accessibility needs. We encourage you to RSVP or buy a book ticket at UnderTheUmbrellaBookstore.com Image Description: 1- a green graphic with a photo of Armando Lรณpez and the cover of the book. Each month, 5% of sales from our Staff Reads will be donated to the MMIWR+ Utah, an organization that advocates for missing and murdered Indigenous women and relatives. We encourage our white customers to support this and other Indigenous-led organizations here and around the so-called United States.
