POSTS STORIES REELS

We were honored to win a Pinnacle Award from the @prsalasvegas for our Rebels Give 2025 campaign. The integrated communications campaign raised funds to support COLA students who were the closest to graduation and special programs in our centers and institutes. The Pinnacle Awards recognize excellence in public relations and communications in Southern Nevada.

Kudos to Karyn Hollingsworth, director of communications; Jessica Impallaria, director of development; Heather Torgersen, former senior executive director of external affairs; and the entire COLA team on the win! Thank you @photosbyalexs . by @unlvliberalarts

#ICYMI: The annual COLA Open House was held Oct. 28. Discovery with Impact

WORKING TO PRESERVE WALKING BOX RANCH
UNLV researchers are preserving and interpreting Southern Nevada history through interdisciplinary research, education, and public engagement.

The Reid Public History Institute has been integral to the restoration and interpretation of Walking Box Ranch. Built by 1920s actors Clara Bow and Rex Bell, the historic property remains one of the best-surviving examples of large-scale desert ranching in the American Southwest. After receiving a $200,000 Saving America’s Treasures Grant to stabilize the house and conduct interdisciplinary research, institute director Andy Kirk, public history faculty, and students have catalogued the material culture, developed storage plans, and created educational programming for K-12 students and the public.

This is one of 51 impact stories featured in the UNLV Discovery with Impact booklet.

Grad Rebel Student Highlight: Meghna Gogoi is a second year Ph.D. student and a Graduate Assistant (GA) in the Department of Sociology at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV). She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from University of Delhi, India and master’s in Sociology from Illinois State University.

Her research interests primarily fall into two areas. The first focuses on the intersection of religion with marriage and family, particularly interfaith relationships and interfaith identity. Her second area of research focuses on crime and violence. She has presented her research at numerous academic conferences and has also received multiple awards. These include the people’s choice award from the Three Minute Thesis (3MT) competition at Illinois State University and, most recently, the 2026 UNLV Libraries Research Impact Challenge.

Beyond research, Gogoi enjoys staying actively involved on campus and in the broader community. During her master’s program at Illinois State University, she served on the Graduate Student Advisory Council, where she advocated for graduate students and contributed to conversations about their needs, concerns, and experiences. At UNLV, she serves as a Grad Rebel Ambassador representing the Graduate College and promoting graduate education in the community. She is the President of the Indian Students Association Graduate Registered Student Organization and the Vice President of the UNLV Interfaith Registered Student Organization. Gogoi particularly enjoys working directly with people, learning about their experiences, mentoring students, and helping create spaces where students feel welcomed and supported by @unlvliberalarts
