GOLD COAST RECAP 🇦🇺🐨🏄

After visiting Brisbane, the HHS Global Learning crew headed down to the Gold Coast!

We kicked off our time in GC with a Welcome to Country ceremony before visiting the Gold Coast Aquatic Centre, where we learned how the city is leveraging its Commonwealth Games experience to prepare for the 2032 Olympics.

The next day was one of our favorites! We spent the morning at Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary meeting some of Australia’s most iconic animals 🐨🦘 before heading to the beach for a surfing lesson in the afternoon 🏄🌊

Thursday began with a visit to Griffith University’s Gold Coast campus, where both SPAD and ExPhys students had the opportunity to connect with faculty in their respective fields. That evening, we attended the Women’s State of Origin rugby match at Suncorp Stadium! 🏉

On Friday, we toured People First Stadium, a major Gold Coast venue that regularly hosts AFL, cricket, concerts, and more. We then visited the Kurrawa Surf Life Saving Club to learn not only how they save lives, but also how they educate the public on ocean safety.

To wrap up our time on the Gold Coast, we shared one final lunch together with our friends from RDK. A huge thank you to Ryan, Michelle, Brad, Jill, Deanne, and Lily for their hospitality and support throughout our time in Australia — this trip would not have been the same without you!

BRISBANE RECAP 🇦🇺🦘🐨

We kicked off our time in Brisbane with a tour of the Brisbane Lions facilities — home to one of the top AFL teams in Australia! 🦁 We then headed over to the Brisbane Bullets facility to learn more about Brisbane’s professional basketball team 🏀 To end off our fist day, we watched the Lions take on Carlton at the Gabba!

On day two, we visited VALD, one of the leading producers of high-performance sports technology used for athlete testing and performance analysis. We wrapped up the day by attending the Artistic Gymnastics Continental Championships, where we got to watch past, present, and future Olympians compete! 🤸‍♀️✨

Day three started bright and early as we volunteered at a triathlon and had the opportunity to watch elite athletes compete firsthand! 🏊‍♀️🏃‍♂️🚴‍♀️

In between all of the events, we explored everything Brisbane had to offer and made so many unforgettable memories together. This group truly made the most of every moment, and the friendships and experiences from this trip will last a lifetime!
