they were running and giggling and splashing together and i couldn’t help but want it to be me instead. i wish we could be small together. big eyes, big grins and bigger tooth gaps. clothes dirty from recess and cupping tadpoles in our hands at the stream together, sweat matting our hair to our foreheads and bits of dry grass we’d have to pick out together, dinner hastily half-eaten so we could finish playing outside before running in for the evening and coming back to the rest of our cold plates sitting on cleared tables as we each got scolded by our mothers together. i wish my friends and i could be little together. i want to know you over and over and over again. through all the changes and all the years and all the loves and all the grief and all the things we tell each other about now. this was one of the last pictures i took before my camera‘s batteries died, and i get emotional every time i see it. by @ur.ooba
