Soup Season Is Here: Our Guide to Pairing Savoury Scones With Your Favourite Bowl Soup wants something alongside it, something with real texture, something worth tearing off and dipping in. That’s where our savoury scones come in. We make six savoury scone flavours at Urban Baker Co., each built with fresh herbs, creamery butter and flavourful cheeses, and each pairs a little differently depending on what’s simmering on your stove. Here’s how we’d match them up. Cheddar Cheese Savoury Scone + Classic Tomato Soup — Think grilled cheese and tomato soup, except the cheddar’s already baked in. Bacon & Cheddar Savoury Scone + Loaded Potato or Corn Chowder — The bacon’s smokiness plays off the chowder’s sweetness. Cranberry Thyme Gruyere Savoury Scone + French Onion Soup — The cranberry adds a bright contrast to the onions’ deep flavour. Fig & Honey Savoury Scone + Roasted Butternut Squash Soup — Our pick for the coziest night of the week. Old White Cheddar Dill & Chive Savoury Scone + Potato Leek Soup — Feels less like an experiment, more like filling in the blanks. Sun-Dried Tomato & Scallion Savoury Scone + Minestrone — The scallion keeps things fresh, even on the coldest night. Find all six flavours at urbanbakerco.com/collections/savoury-scones, or build a full soup night around them with pickup, delivery, or at the market. Some mornings call for nothing more than a warm cup of coffee and a breakfast cookie before the day gets going. That's where I am this week, taking a little time to sit still before diving back in. Back soon. 💛 by @urbanbakerco
We built this around the version of the week that actually happens, not the one we plan for on paper, the early alarm, the packed bag, the fifteen minutes before you're out the door. Real ingredients, ready when you need them, whether that's picked up on your way out, delivered to your door, or grabbed at one of our markets or partner cafes this week. (For the fuller ingredient story behind these muffins, we wrote about it on the blog — link in bio.) #UrbanBakerCo #DesignedForRealLife #EverydayWellness #WeeklyReset #GTAFood by @urbanbakerco
A lot of protein balls and bars use dates as the base. We chose almond butter instead, and it was a deliberate call, it gives more real substance, and it's part of why these are what I reach for after training (like I mentioned earlier this week). We also spent time researching what protein to add on top of that, and landed on pea protein specifically because of how it blends into almond butter, no grainy, chalky texture like you get with most protein add-ins. You genuinely can't tell it's in there. Two of these give you 10 grams of protein, no smoothy needed, no fridge required, just grab two and go. #UrbanBakerCo #RealIngredients #HealthyConvenience #FuelYourDay #CleanLabel by @urbanbakerco
The Nutrition Myth I Debunked and Then Ignored I wrote a piece on our blog back in 2024 called "The Anabolic Window: Myth or Fact," debunking the idea that you need protein within some narrow window after a workout. The real point wasn't the window — it was consistency. Total protein across the whole day matters more than any 30-minute rule. I believed that then. I just stopped living it. Life got busy, workouts got inconsistent, and so did what I ate around them. I'm back to strength training now, built specifically for this stage of life. The hour or so after a workout is when muscle is primed to use protein for repair — and that window matters more, not less, as we get older, since we naturally lose muscle mass and strength over time. Getting protein in close to training, on top of enough protein across the whole day, is one of the few things that actually helps counter that. The habit that's stuck this time: two of our Fuel Balls within about an hour of finishing — 10 grams of protein, no shaker bottle, no fridge required, just two out of a gym bag. The almond butter base gives real substance a date-based bar doesn't, and the pea protein we use was chosen specifically because it blends into almond butter without the grainy, chalky texture people expect from a protein add-in. You genuinely can't tell it's there. I'm not telling you you'll miss some magic window if you skip this. The science still says total daily protein is what matters most, and I still believe that. But having something this easy, ready in that hour, is what actually makes the rest of the day's consistency happen for me. Read the original blog — link in bio. #UrbanBakerCo #HealthyConvenience #FuelYourDay #StrengthTraining #RealIngredients by @urbanbakerco
Thoughtfully crafted foods designed to fuel your day" is the line that opens almost everything we write about Urban Baker Co. Say it enough times and it risks becoming wallpaper. So here's what it actually means to me. It's not a tagline. It's a filter. Every product has to answer one question: will this genuinely help someone get through a real day, or does it just sound like it should? A lot of "healthy" food is built to photograph well, not to hold someone over between an early departure and a lunch they didn't have time to plan. That's why we sweeten with honey or maple syrup instead of refined sugar, why our healthy line is gluten and dairy-free, and why our Fuel Bars sit in a 250–400 calorie range built for satisfaction, not restriction. This week, a regular customer told me flatly that they "can't live without" our products. Turns out they'd been stocking up for a while, and one half of the couple owns a marketing agency and has quietly been watching Urban Baker Co. grow. We ended up in a genuinely great conversation about strategy and where the business is headed. That moment stuck with me, not just the compliment, though I'll take it. It was realizing someone could see both halves of what we're building: products that had earned a place in their routine, and a business being built with real direction behind it. The phrase also shapes decisions you'll never see, packaging, sourcing, recipe standardization, how fast we move toward retail. Growing quickly and growing well aren't the same thing. So when you see "crafted to fuel your day" on a label, I want it to mean something specific: the decision behind that product was made with your actual day in mind — not the photo of it. 💛 by @urbanbakerco
Blue Cat Espresso has been carrying Urban Baker Co. for almost a year now, and it's one of our favourite partnerships. Tucked into a specialty coffee shop in Toronto alongside a premier padel facility, they stock a large selection from our healthy line; muffins, Fuel Bars, Fuel Balls, and healthy cookies, for players heading onto the court and coffee regulars alike. Nearly a year in, it's still one of the best examples of what "healthy convenience" actually looks like: real food, right where people already are. Visit @bluecatespresso to try us there. #UrbanBakerCo #BlueCatEspresso #GTACafe #HealthyConvenience #FoundInGTA #FuelYourDay by @urbanbakerco
There's something we love about a customer trying something for the first time because they read about it first. This past weekend, several people came in asking specifically about the Seed Cookie, they'd read the newsletter last weekend, and read the blog post about how it came together, and wanted to see what all the reading was about. Some of them had never tried it before. Watching someone go from curious to convinced in the same conversation is one of the best parts of this work. It tells us the story we're telling matters just as much as what's in the package. If you've been reading along but haven't tried the Seed Cookie yet, this is your sign. And if you're already thinking through the week ahead, it's a good one to add to the list, real ingredients, nothing complicated, easy to keep on hand. If you want to read more and missed our blog post check the link in bio. For now, come find out what everyone's been asking about. #UrbanBakerCo #HealthyConvenience #SeedCookie #GTAFood #RealIngredients by @urbanbakerco
Some moments tell you more about what you've built than any milestone could. This past week, a woman came in on her husband's behalf, he comes in himself every week, but he was away this time, so he sent her instead. She wasn't totally sure what he gets. She said his name, and before she'd even finished the sentence, we already knew. Same order, every single week, without fail. We had it ready before she reached the counter. That's what I think about on a weekend like this one. It's not really about the order. It's about someone trusting you enough to become part of their week, whether they're the one picking it up or not. That kind of relationship doesn't happen from one good visit. It's built the same way everything else here is, one order, one conversation, one week at a time. If you're out and about this Civic Holiday weekend, we'd love to see you, whether it's your first order or your fiftieth. #UrbanBakerCo #GTAFood #HealthyConvenience #CivicHoliday #CommunityFirst by @urbanbakerco
