Sake Revolution Live!
Celebrate Sake Day with Austin Power

Thursday, October 1, 2026 · Brooklyn Kura Taproom
Happy Hour 6–7pm
Live Podcast Recording 7–8pm
Taproom open until 9pm
Tickets: $25 per person — includes a curated sake tasting flight. Link in bio!

October 1st is Sake Day — the official start of the sake brewing year in Japan. And every year on the day itself, Sake Revolution, America’s first sake podcast, keeps its favorite tradition: recording a live episode in front of an audience at the Brooklyn Kura Taproom. The kanpai is mandatory... but fun will be inevitable.

We couldn’t be more excited about this year’s guest: Austin Power (yes, that’s his real name), New York’s most seriously silly sake sommelier and the man behind Accidental Bar, downtown’s beloved neighborhood sake joint on Avenue C.

A South Carolina kid turned Parsons-trained painter turned sake evangelist, his mission has been, in his own words, “get more people drinking more sake, more irresponsibly” and “if you’re not having fun, you’re doing it wrong”. He honed that philosophy over a decade at legendary NYC sake spots before opening Accidental Bar in 2021.

Join hosts John and Timothy as they talk to Austin about his take on the sake scene in NYC!

Come for the party, Leave a little Smarter - we dive into Austin’s philosophy of how to get more people drinking more sake, more irresponsibly and what is the best path forward with the staid and serious world of “Sake Education” taken in Brooklyn Kura by @sakerevolutionpod

What an honor to welcome Beau Timken, owner of San Francisco's TRUE SAKE (America's first sake-only retail shop) to Brooklyn Kura!

Beau has been a pioneering voice for sake in the US for over two decades, so showing him around our brewery and tasting through our lineup together was a true full-circle moment for American craft sake. From the koji room to the taproom, the conversation (and the sake) flowed.

Thank you for the visit, Beau, and cheers to spreading the sake love from coast to coast! 🥂

Swipe through for a peek at the visit →

When it’s time to celebrate, we always reach for our sparkling sake!

Hakkaisan Clear Sparkling “AWA” is crafted through a secondary in-bottle fermentation, creating a clear, elegant sparkling sake.

It opens with a light fruity aroma and a refreshing, refined sweetness. Perfectly balanced and celebratory, AWA is made for raising a glass, whether it’s a big win or any special moment worth toasting. by @sakerevolutionpod

What a great delight to re-connect with Master Sommelier and Sake Samurai Roger Dagorn at Joy of Sake 2025! I first met Roger when he became a Sake Samurai in 2008. I also enjoyed his sake pairings when he directed the beverage program at Chanterelle that same year. Roger is a pillar of the wine and sake communities and a mentor to so many of us! Do I like baseball now!? Just announced!:
“The Los Angeles Dodgers have entered into a multi-year partnership agreement with Hakkaisan (Hakkaisan Brewery Co., Ltd.) that makes the company’s sake products available at select Dodger Stadium concession locations and that features in-stadium promotion and activations, as well as participation at off-stadium events.

This collaboration brings together the rich traditions of Japanese sake brewing and the iconic spirit of American baseball, offering fans a unique and exclusive experience. In addition, as the Dodgers’ exclusive sake partner, Hakkaisan will provide co-branded bottles for sale in selected stores in Southern California.” taken in Dogers Stadium by @sakerevolutionpod

It was an honor to speak with Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida at the US-Japan Tourism event in NYC earlier this week. I was asked to introduce and pour the Hakuto Tokubetsu Junmai sake for him and his wife. Hakuto Brewery located in Wajima, Ishikawa was severely damaged in the Noto Peninsula earthquake this past January 1st. For our kanpai, we are using beautiful lacquerware sake cups, also from Wajima. It’s wonderful to see sake helping to increase understanding between the U.S. and Japan in this way. by @sakerevolutionpod
