We’ve always believed that cities are not the opposite of nature — they’re where nature is needed most. 🌿 Urbem Fastforests was born from a simple but urgent idea: that every neighbourhood deserves a canopy, every street deserves shade, and every community deserves the calm that comes from being surrounded by living trees. We plant urban forests. But more than that, we create spaces where people slow down, breathe deeper, and reconnect — with nature, with their neighbours, and with themselves. In 2024 alone, here’s what we accomplished together: 🌱 788 plants in the ground 👏 450 volunteers showed up 🌾 6,100 kg of mulch laid ⏰ 2,000 hours of work poured into every detail None of this happens without community. And we’re just getting started. If you believe cities can be greener, cooler, and more human — this is your community too. 💚 👇 Follow along. Share with someone who loves their city. ENGLISH 🐝 Safety and nature protection go hand in hand! This week, an Asian hornet (Vespa velutina) nest was located and safely removed just 200 meters from our urban forest in Casal Vistoso. While hornets play a role in their native environments, here they pose a serious threat to local biodiversity—especially to native honeybees, which they hunt aggressively, disrupting vital pollination cycles. Asian hornets usually build their high-altitude primary and secondary nests in tall tree canopies, dense bushes, rural structures, or sheltered urban eaves, often near water sources. Recognizing their presence early helps keep both our local pollinators and community safe! A huge thank you to the team and authorities for taking swift action to protect our green space! #urbem #casalvistoso #asianhornet #biodiversityprotection #urbannature #nativeecosystems #lisboa #invasivespecies #communitysafety by @urbem.forests

English Sunday morning in Monsanto with Ivo Rosa! 🌲 This Sunday, September 27th, at 10:00 AM, we’re coming together at Monsanto Forest Park for a morning dedicated to harvesting seeds from native trees and shrubs. What we'll do: 🌰 Identify native species growing in Monsanto 🍂 Learn to spot ripe, healthy seeds ready for harvesting 🌿 Practice responsible collecting without disrupting natural regeneration 🪴 Understand the post-harvest process and how seeds are used in ecological restoration No previous experience needed — just bring comfortable shoes, water, and enthusiasm to explore Monsanto! If you have small paper bags or containers for seed collection, feel free to bring them along. 📍 Meeting point: Monsanto East Access Parking (Campolide) 📞 Contact: Reach out to Ivo Rosa at +351 963 130 350 if you’re joining us outside the schedule. Playing on the streets and planting for the future! 🚲🌱 This past Sunday, September 20th, we had an absolute blast participating in Brinca Bairro! It was amazing to see the street filled with children riding bikes and scooters, enjoying a car-free neighborhood. Because Urbem always follows natural seasonal cycles, this was the perfect moment to start preparing for what's ahead. The kids got their hands dirty planting young trees and making seedbeds with native species—carob trees, pine trees, and cork oaks—that will grow into tomorrow's canopy. To top off a fantastic morning, everyone worked together to build a brand-new garden bench! What we did: 🚲 Supported a car-free street morning full of play, bikes, and outdoor freedom 🌲 Guided kids in planting trees and preparing seedbeds for native species (carob, pine, cork oak) 🔨 Built a neighborhood garden bench together to leave a lasting mark on the community A huge thank you to everyone who came out! Our volunteer Saturdays continue—come join us for the next one! 📍 Location: Areeiro, Lisboa 👉 Check the link in our bio to join our upcoming volunteer activities!
