🪔 Story

You’re not just visiting a memorial…
you’re standing where war was actually fought 🇮🇳

• Kargil War Memorial is located in Dras — the second coldest inhabited place on Earth ❄️

• Built by the Indian Army to honor heroes of the Kargil War

• The pink sandstone Wall of Remembrance carries names of 527 soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice 🇮🇳

• Right behind it… you can see Tiger Hill & Tololing — actual battle peaks ⚠️

• A perpetual Vijay Flame 🔥burns here to honor their sacrifice

• 🙏🏻You’ll hear absolute silence here… broken only by cold winds

🔥 Battles were fought above 18,000 ft — making it one of the highest war zones ever

⚠️ The memorial stands along NH1, the same highway soldiers fought to protect

The Kargil battle wasn’t fought only on the mountains… it was fought in the skies too. 🇮🇳

• 26 May 1999: Indian Air Force joined Operation Vijay through Operation Safed Sagar. 🇮🇳

• IAF pilots carried out reconnaissance and strike missions over the high-altitude Kargil battlefield. 🛩️

• No. 17 “Golden Arrows” Squadron flew MiG-21 Type 96 aircraft during the conflict. ⚔️

• The biggest challenge? Attacking targets at extreme altitude while not crossing the LoC. ⚠️

• Mirage-2000s carried out precision strikes, including laser-guided bombing missions. 🎯

• 🫡Squadron Leader Ajay Ahuja was killed on 27 May 1999 while trying to locate a downed pilot, despite the danger from enemy surface-to-air missiles. He was later awarded the Vir Chakra posthumously. 🇮🇳

• The Golden Arrows earned Battle Honours for their service during Operation Safed Sagar. 🇮🇳

A 60-foot form of Maa Chamundeshwari, standing tall in Gowdagere, Karnataka. 🔱

• 🔱 18 arms — depicting the powerful 18-armed form of Maa Chamundeshwari.
• 🪷 A form of Shakti — associated with the fierce and protective aspect of the Divine Mother.
• 🐂 Basavanna has a special place here — the sacred temple bull is deeply revered by devotees.
• 🍚 Annadana — free meals are offered to devotees.

A waterfall with a name that sounds like an ocean… 🌊✨

And behind these roaring waters lies a remarkable piece of India’s engineering history.

• “Shivanasamudra” means “Shiva’s Sea” 🌊🔱
• The Kaveri splits into two major waterfalls — Gaganachukki & Bharachukki 💧
• They’re separate waterfalls, divided by the island of Shivanasamudra 👀
• In 1902, this waterfall began powering the Kolar Gold Fields (KGF) ⚡️⛏️
• Electricity travelled about 147 km from the falls to KGF — remarkable for that era ⚡️
• The hydroelectric project became one of Asia’s early major hydroelectric projects 🇮🇳
🔥 A waterfall that once powered the gold mines of KGF. ⚡️⛏️

🕰️ Best during the monsoon months, when the Kaveri is flowing strongly. 🌧️
