Phil Knight wrote a business school paper about importing Japanese sneakers.

His professor told him to go test it.

So he flew to Japan, walked into a factory he’d never contacted, made up a company name on the spot - and came home with 12 pairs of shoes and a $500 partnership with his old track coach.

That coach, Bill Bowerman, was so obsessed with the shoe that he literally poured rubber into his wife’s waffle iron trying to make it better.

Blue Ribbon Sports. Then Nike. Then Michael Jordan. Then $50 billion.

None of it happens without a professor who said “go prove it.” None of it happens without a coach who answered the phone. None of it happens without a factory in Japan that said yes to a stranger.

Every person who changed Phil Knight’s life was one connection away from someone he already knew.

That’s what Trailblaize is built for - making sure your network doesn’t go quiet.

Rihanna’s mom was chatting at a cookout in Barbados.

The woman she was talking to happened to be married to a music producer from New York who was on vacation.

He asked Rihanna to sing. She performed Mariah Carey in a hotel lobby.

Two years later she’s in Jay-Z’s office. L.A. Reid says don’t let her leave the building. She signs that night. She’s 16.

260 million records. Fenty Beauty. $1.4 billion.

It started with two moms talking at a cookout.

Nobody planned it. Nobody networked their way to it. It was just a conversation that turned into a connection that turned into everything.

Most people have had that conversation. They just didn’t know it mattered.

Matthew McConaughey got into UT film school. Ended up at a bar. Argued about golf with a casting director. Got cast in Dazed and Confused. Rode that to A Time to Kill. Twenty years later he’s winning an Oscar.

None of it was luck. It was dots connecting.

The film degree wasn’t the plan. The bar argument wasn’t the plan. But he showed up, he was in the room, and he knew how to move when the moment hit.

Most people have the same moments. They just don’t see them.

That’s the whole thing.
